A copy of the term planner will be forwarded home with students tomorrow. An electronic copy will also be available via our website. SCHOOL CONCERT - CHANGE In past years at the end of this term we have held a whole school concert. The staging of this concert has required a significant amount of time dedicated to preparing for this event. Often this has involved several full scale rehearsals prior to the concert performance and of course a great deal of practice in the weeks leading up to the performance. In essence, this has amounted to a considerable amount of time in order to achieve a high quality performance. While I understand that many families enjoy this end of year performance there is also the consideration of obtaining a balance with the curriculum. As I am sure parents would be aware the curriculum is large and, it seems, with an ever increasing complexity. The demand on teachers class time is significant and getting through their programs of learning effectively is difficult. The intent then is to have a greater focus on completing set learning tasks across the curriculum in term four and in doing this not staging an end of year concert. This matter and decision has been discussed and endorsed at both School Board and staff meetings. Again I recognise this decision will cause much discussion and debate, but I also hope that our school community can see the benefits for our students long term learning. SCIENCE LAB OPENING Over the past 3 months or so we have gradually been adding to the furniture and resources in our Science Lab. The last of these additions including the transfer of current Science equipment was completed in the last holiday break. So, the room is now ready to be used! Classes will now be able to go ahead and use this room for a range of purposes including Science, STEM, ICT, cooking activities and much more. We will be having an official opening of the Science Lab commencing at 9:00am Friday 26 October. Parents are most welcome to come along and join us. PLAYGROUND INITIATIVES This term we are looking to trial the introduction of some additional playground activities and areas. This will include the opening of our school library for up to two days a week at lunch time.

2 Students will be able to play board games or simply read on a Tuesday with Mrs Melville, while each Thursday students will have the opportunity to take part in a chill-out session with Mrs Nichols. These sessions will include some mindfulness activities where students will learn some relaxation and breathing techniques. We will also be looking to extend the Loose Parts and Carts program into the primary years. This will be added to the nature play area. Initially a roster for year levels will be put in place designating which day they may use this area and Mrs Ridley will be working with students during her Physical Education classes during weeks one and two explaining how the program will operate. It is anticipated that these new initiatives will commence from week three and will provide students with some different play options across the week. INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC PROGRAM 2019 I am pleased to announce that next year Dalmain Primary School will be extending this program down into Year 5. This will mean that students in Years 5 and 6 will be involved in this program in Following testing carried out over the next week or so students will be identified and offered a position in this program. Information about the process has been forwarded home to parents of students in Years 4 and 5. YEAR 6 STUDENTS This term will be an exciting one for our Year 6 students with camp as well as graduation taking place. The camp will take place at Woodman Point Camp School from 7-9 November while graduation activities will be held on Thursday 6 December. A Graduation Assembly will be held in the morning followed by a morning tea for students and parents. The Graduates will then have their Graduation Dinner that evening at the Woodvale Function Centre. ASSEMBLY Our first assembly this term will have a focus on the Languages component of the WA Curriculum, Japanese. Please join us in the assembly area next Thursday morning. P&C MEETING Parents are welcome to join us for the first meeting this term on Tuesday evening commencing at 7:00pm in the staffroom. 5 Garden Chess Sets Now that the weather has finally started to improve, the garden chess sets kindly provided by the P&C, have been taken out of storage and are being utilised by students over the lunch break. I would like to thank Josh V, Aden W and Isaac A for kindly volunteering to coordinate the setting and packing up of the chess sets. You can see them beautifying the gardens outside the Art Room and TA 9.

6 Focus on Phys Ed - Tennis At the end of last term Dalmain students participated in tennis coaching sessions delivered by Rocky and Marino from Tiny Tots Tennis Hillarys. The sessions focused on developing forehand and volley shots and provided the students with expert coaching to practise and apply these shots in a number of engaging games. Congratulations to Grace for her selection in the 2019 State Basketball team Grace will be travelling to Melbourne to compete in January Well done, Grace!
