1 BULLETIN Friday 5th May Term 2 Week Band Aids What a holy servant the Band Aid has been. For over 90 years we have been wrapped up by its sterile charm and they have stuck to us like flies on sherbet. A master of the cover-up, our children s war wounds have been camouflaged with Superman, Spider-Man, Sponge Bob Square Pants and B1 and B2. They are more powerful than a steam train or even Grandma s kiss, but not so easy to apply for those encumbered with fat fingers. Personally, I have always wanted a magic wand that can be waved like a band aid over bad things broken bodies and fractured relationships injured attitudes and strangled values wounded hopes and dreams and painful fears. This week our focus bible story is about Jesus the Healer. In John 5:1-9 Jesus shows that he has authority over sickness when he heals a paralytic man after asking him, do you want to be well? Jesus was called over 100 different names (I know how he must have felt) and one of them was healer. He healed heaps of people with little more than the earthly elements around him, but he did have a wand of sorts the Word of God. Jesus. Breathing life and hope and healing to those who would ask for it. We are pretty quick to say, Can I have a band aid? yet slow to seek the healing that is anything but band aid treatment. 2 Page 2 WELCOME BACK / WHAT S ON IN TERM 2 Welcome back to school. We hope you had a blessed Easter and restful holiday period. Term 2 is a 9 week term and there are lots of things planned for students and parents to be involved in. In the last week of term, Semester 1 reports will be issued. Students then break for a 3 week holiday period. STAFF NEWS Mr Simon Wundersitz is Deputy Principal this term, whilst Mr Helbig is Acting Principal at St Jakobi. Welcome to Charmaine Adams and Steve Paech who will fill in Mr Wundersitz role and teach PE on Weds, Thurs, Fri. Welcome back Mrs Janine Panagiotou - working on a Tuesday and Thursday in the Chaplaincy role. Welcome to Mrs Sue Schmidt, a Lutheran Schools Officer, working mainly with the year 1 classrooms ELECTIVES Have your children spoken to you about our Electives program that happens on a Friday between 2.10 and 3.10pm? If you are able to help out by offering an elective, we d love to hear from you. Speak to Daryl about any thoughts you might have about electives. SUBWAY LUNCHES Orders due in by 3.30pm on a Wednesday for lunch on a Friday. SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB ISSUE 3: Catalogues going home Friday 5th May. Orders due back Monday 15th May. RHYTHM KIDS Starts again next Monday 9.30am am with Mr Hueppauff In Room 5 / under the shelter. A fun music program for preschoolers and toddlers (age 3-5) Parents can enjoy a coffee and chat. PRAYER AND CARE Prayers go to Faith College Tanunda at the recent passing of 2 staff members Richard Birrell and Simon McKenzie. WINTER UNIFORM T2 and T3 Students are looking smart in their Winter Uniform this term. Extra items can be purchased via the front office. You may need to make an appt time if you need to have fittings. Second hand items are available at the stall near the Foundation classrooms on Mondays am and Fridays 3.15 to 4.00pm. If for any reason your child is not wearing the correct school uniform a note should be directed to the child s teacher. Hats do not need to be worn in term 2 (as the UV rating is usually below 3). However they can still be worn by the children if they choose/require them. We recommend students keep their hats in their bags or trays so that they have them at school if they are needed. TERM 2 TRAFFIC MONITOR ROSTERS Thanks to those students for remembering the new roster and arriving on time for their duty. NAPLAN 2017 Next week the Year 3, 5 & 7 students will undertake the NAPLAN Testing (Tuesday May 9th, Wednesday May 10th and Thursday May 11th). It is important that students are present to undertake these assessments. Friday will be a catch up session. CAMPS Our year 4 students will be heading off to camp next week (Weds to Fri). Year 6/7 s will be heading off to camp in week 4 (Mon 22 to Weds 24). Please ensure forms and returned and payments made by due dates. Thank you from Mrs P Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers while I have been away unwell. My balance is back and the tinnitus is slowly going away. God has certainly had his healing hand over me. It is lovely to be back amongst happy students, parents/ caregivers and work colleagues. 3 Page 3 MOTHERS DAY - CARERS GROUP SHOPPING STALL Sunday 14th May is MOTHERS DAY. Our Carers Group will hold a Stall on Friday 12th May offering small gifts for students to purchase - prices ranging from $1-$5. Please send in small notes or coins. Students will be brought to the stall during class. Year 4 students will have a stall on Monday (as they are away at camp on Friday) VALUING SAFE COMMUNITIES TRAINING For those wanting to Volunteer at our school you need to attend a VSC training session and have a current Police check. Both of these need to be renewed every 3 years. Training by Daryl Trigg will be held on Wednesday 17th May at 2.30pm and 6.30pm in the staffroom (approx. 45 mins) MAY IS FOOD ALLERGY WEEK Food Allergies are becoming increasingly common and understanding them is important for everyone. Head to this website for information: SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR - lots of books to browse through and purchase Monday 15th May to Friday 19th May - School Library Each class will go for a browse on Monday to create their wish list. Book prices range from $10 and stationery items from $1 The more sales we make the more Scholastic dollars we earn to buy books for our school. BIGGEST MORNING TEA Thursday 25th May 9am to 10am under the Taikondi (shelter) Thank you to our Foundation teachers for organising. Bring a plate of morning tea to share and a donation for the Cancer Council. Watch out for the flyer with some more details CHEESE AND WINE NIGHT Friday 26th May 7.30pm to 10.30pm Coordinated by our Parents and Friends group Tickets are $5 and on sale later next week An adult only evening - all welcome - bring your family / neighbours / friends. 4 ANZAC DAY Tuesday 25th April was Anzac Day and some year 7 students Isabelle, Kailee, Laura, Brandon and Jaras represented Immanuel at the Dawn service at Pioneer Park Gawler. Brandon also participated in the Anzac March on Sunday 23rd April, carrying the Immanuel Banner. Lest we Forget. EASTER CHURCH SERVICES The Easter worship services held at Immanuel School were well attended. We had so many school families join us too. Thanks to the band, choir and dance group of students along with the staff and pastors who organised the services at our school. We are now planning to hold Pentecost Sunday on 4th June at Immanuel School. STEPHANIE ALEXANDER KITCHEN GARDEN PROGRAM AT IMMANUEL Thank you so much for those that have come in to support in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program in term 1. This program is impossible to run without the kind help of volunteers (parents and grandparents). We are looking for some more helpers this term in kitchen and garden (even for just a once off is appreciated). No need for a volunteer badge or cooking/gardening knowledgeyour presence is all that is required. You are more than welcome to pop in for a visit during the session times if interested. KITCHEN sessions are held every Wednesday 11:30-1pm and 1:45-3:15pm and GARDEN sessions every Tuesday from 9:30-10:30am and 11-12pm. RECYLCING AT IMMANUEL Many families quietly give generous service to our school. Thank you to Helen and Matthew Scholes for all your assistance with the school recycling pickups and deliveries.

5 Gawler Community Art & Health Exhibition Students in Year 4 Miss Lytwyn were invited to create a painting to donate to the Gawler Community Art and Health Exhibition focusing on thanking our Volunteers. Our school community is invited to join in their event: Gawler Health Service Foyer Launch night Monday May 8th at 7pm, Exhibition during foyer opening hours during the week 8-13th May. Closing ceremony/afternoon tea 4-6pm, Saturday 13th May.
