3 Welcome Welcome to our Post 16 prospectus. I am incredibly proud to lead the Sixth Form at Belfairs Academy at such an exciting time in its development and thank you for taking the time to consider us for your further education. Welcome We are able to offer a broad range of curriculum opportunities and our state of the art facilities ensure that no matter which subjects you choose to study, you will be able to take advantage of the most up to date technology to support your learning. Making the right choice for Post 16 education is vital and can be daunting. At Belfairs we promise to support you through every stage of the transition. As we move from strength to strength, the high quality teaching on offer, coupled with outstanding student care and guidance, means that you will be fully supported throughout your time with us. Our tutorial system means that your tutor will know you personally and is able to tailor their support to meet your needs, whatever your plans for the future. From a wide number of A Level courses in English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Languages, and the Arts to vocational based courses in Business, Media, Engineering, Dance, Sport and ICT, we are able to offer a curriculum to meet the needs of all students, no matter where your skills lie. As a Media Arts Academy, students continue to excel in this area at Belfairs, taking advantage of the world class technology, up to date teaching and countless extra-curricular opportunities on offer. Our longstanding close partnership with Tiffany s Theatre College demonstrates our commitment to the Arts and enables students who wish to study at Tiffany s to take additional A Level courses with us. We appreciate that students develop academically at different rates and our Level 2 offer enables students who do not currently meet the entry requirements of Level 3 to gain the skills and qualifications necessary to make progress in their own time. Combining a core curriculum with employability skills and a work placement, students working at Level 2 have a personalised pathway to success. We are constantly looking for ways to adapt flexibly to the changing demands of modern society and ensure we offer a curriculum that enables our students to compete for jobs and higher education places successfully when the time comes to leave us. The level 2 curriculum is a one year pathway and if passed successfully, equips students with the qualifications to progress onto Level 3 study or to enter further training or employment. Level 2 Pathway English GCSE Maths GCSE 1 Option from: Business Studies Media Studies Health & Social Care Catering Public Services Employability Work Experience 1 day per week Please note students are not able to study a Level 2 option course if they have already studied it at GCSE.

6 Facilities With the opening of our brand new, state of the art building in September 2011, we are proud of our ability to offer learning in a world class environment. Facilities In addition to our high quality teaching classrooms, our students are able to take full advantage of a wide range of other technology and specialist facilities including: Full suites of Apple Mac computers for use in Media and Photography Industry quality filming and editing software in Media A modern dance studio All sixth form students are able to access these facilities not only in lessons, but in their free time as well. Students are actively encouraged to use our facilities to their full advantage and we are sure you will agree that with such an impressive range of opportunities, there is no excuse not to enjoy working towards achieving. 7 Care, Support and Guidance We pride ourselves in knowing every student choosing to study with us personally. Your allocated tutor will work with you daily to make sure you are on track to make progress and succeed to the best of your ability in all of your courses. Through group tutorials and regular one-to-one meetings your progress is monitored throughout your time with us and we work with you, your teachers and your parents or carers to ensure you are on track at all times. In addition to your tutor there is a wide range of additional support for those who need it during their time with us. Our outstanding Targeted Services department ensure that students with Special Educational Needs are fully supported at Post 16. Standards and Expectations Our full time, dedicated Post 16 Learning Mentor is always on hand to work with students on a wide range of issues affecting their education and we tailor the support on offer to meet your personal needs. We are confident that every student who studies with us feels safe and secure and able to access support when necessary. This means that if you choose to study with us you will be able to focus fully on your education. Care, Support and Guidance We have high expectations of all students with regard to attendance and behaviour in line with the Academy core values. We expect students to act as role models to younger students and ambassadors within the local community. All year 12 students attend registration each morning and assembly once each week with a personalised arrangement in year 13. In addition students are expected to adhere to the Post 16 dress code.

8 Planning For Your Future All students studying with us can be secure in the knowledge that whatever their aspirations for the future, we can offer the advice and guidance needed to make the next steps. Planning For Your Future Whatever your plans on leaving us, whether you intend to pursue a career, an apprenticeship or go on to higher education, we will offer you personalised careers advice and guidance. All Post 16 students have access to our dedicated Work Related Employment and Learning Manager who provides individual careers advice and guidance. For students wishing to go on to work, we offer CV and interview support and will help with all stages of the application process. We also have a wide range of access to apprenticeship programmes and training opportunities, all of which we pass directly on to you. application process to the moment you collect your results. All students studying with us can be secure in the knowledge that whatever their aspirations for the future, we can offer the advice and guidance needed to make the next steps. 9 Extra Curricular Opportunities Our goal is to ensure all students leave us with the academic success and personal experiences necessary to contribute positively to the wider community. Whilst great emphasis is placed on academic success, we know that the Post 16 experience is more than just about a student s day to day lessons. Whether you are with us for two or three years, your personal, social and emotional development is as equally important to us as your final results. We offer a number of trips each year through subject areas as well as many opportunities to have fun and get to know people on a more informal basis. Charities week is always an annual highlight for our students and we take our commitment to charity fundraising seriously. For students with talent in music and performing arts, the opportunities are endless. From whole school shows such as Oliver, access to Rock School and numerous times to perform on stage throughout the year, there are ample chances to showcase your talent. All students have Sports Entitlement enabling them to take part in a range of sporting opportunities including football, badminton, fitness, netball and swimming. We are often able to offer lifeguarding qualifications to interested students. We actively encourage all students to undertake some form of work experience or volunteering placement. Some students do this in the local community whilst others choose to support younger students through Belfairs peer mentoring scheme or by helping staff or departments across the Academy.
