Background Checks All registered volunteers are required by Cornell University to undergo a background check every 3 years. This is a statewide requirement for all 4-H programming. Each county office is required to run a background check however, we do not see or retain the results, we simply receive a pass/fail from the screening company. So please registered volunteers if you receive the request for permission to run your background check, provide the necessary information and rest assured the youth in our state are working with the best volunteers! Adult Acknowledgement of Risk Volunteers also need to complete an Acknowledgement of Risk form. If you have not already completed this form, it is available on the website or you may obtain a copy by contacting Lisette Cabrera at lmc323@cornell.edu or ext Tanglewood Manor Community Service Opportunities The Tanglewood Group in Lakewood is looking for volunteers! Clubs and animal projects are welcome to bring crafts, play games, provide an educational display and more with the residents of the Tanglewood Group. To schedule a visit please call Hannah Grable at x2296 or hgrable@tanglewoodmanor.com. Knitting 4 Peace Community Purls Knitting 4 Peace is an organization that distributes knitted, crocheted, or woven items to those in need. They look for mittens, youth and adult sized winter hats, scarves, shawls, baby caps, and baby blankets.the items are distributed to local organizations like the Salvation Army, CASA, Ellington Food Pantry, Jamestown Public School System, Southwestern Elementary School System, and the YWCA Jamestown Transitional Housing Program. For more information, contact Janet Forbes at or janet@knittingforpeace.org. To our volunteers: Thank you! The beginning of the new year is always challenging for volunteers and staff.
