As I write today, our school is reeling from having one of our football players flown to Walla Walla for brain surgery, then later to Seattle for recovery. When Mr. Mills spoke to staffs at the elementary and high school buildings, one of the first questions asked was, What can we do to help? The offer to help was for the family, of course, but also an offer of support for the football coaching staff and players. I am so thankful to have spent my entire life in small towns. Having done so, I have experienced countless opportunities to witness the kindness mankind is capable of showing to one another. These acts vary from canning garden produce to harvesting crops, caring for children and pets, feeding livestock, a simple hand on the shoulder or a needed hug. Small town folks don t need to be asked to help. They offer without hesitation. VETERANS DAY TRIBUTE Imbler School District will be hosting their annual Veteran s Day Assembly on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 beginning at 2:30 pm in the High School Gymnasium. A dessert social will follow in Room #1. All Veterans are invited to attend.

2 FBLA NEWS By December Eddy, Publicity Director FBLA has gotten off to a great start this year raising money for the March of Dimes. The March of Dimes is an organization that helps to support premature babies by sending money to the families and hospitals to help them. In October, we raised around $140 for the March of Dimes via our annual Penny War that the classes participated in during Homecoming Week. This month we plan to raise more money and more awareness than we do throughout the whole rest of the year. We are very excited to see how much money we can raise this month to help the premature babies! Speaking of helping, FBLA is getting an early start on Christmas this year by starting to organize our yearly Giving Tree. The Giving Tree contains tags with ages and genders of kids who community members can purchase gifts for. We also have tags for animal shelter supplies to help support the Blue Mountain Humane Association. Every year we have an amazing amount of donated gifts, and hope this year will be an even better year. We decided to start a new tradition this year to spread a little more Christmas cheer to senior citizens in our community. We plan to go to senior citizen homes, hand out cards and spend a little bit of time visiting with them. This month s Little Steps is on November 19. We are also looking forward to our first competition at Regionals in February; however, students will begin signing up for competitive events in December. 3 PAC/BOOSTER NEWS We are off to a great start for the school year! We have had a great turnout at our first two meetings and are excited to have some new faces and more helping hands. The cookie dough and fruit fundraiser was a great success! The students sold just over $14,500 of products earning approximately $6,300 to help support our school programs. At our last meeting we began the discussion of what type of projects we would like to fund this year, although some of these funds have already been committed to pay for field trips such as Camp Hancock and the OMSI trip. The cookie dough and fruit will be available for parents to pick up from 3:15 to 5:00 PM on November 19th. Thank you to all those parents and community members who supported the students in this fundraiser! Like Us on Facebook -- we want to have 300 followers! There are great new styles, designs and items! Just fill out the order form enclosed in this newsletter or go to Imbler School website ( Click the Fan Gear button on the left-hand side, print the form and order away! You can also obtain an order form at the High School or Elementary offices. Orders are due Wednesday, November 25th and will be back before Christmas break. All the items would make great Christmas presents for every member of the family. Come and join us at our next meeting on November 10th. At that meeting, we will be signing volunteers up to help out with concessions during the busy basketball season. If you would like to work a couple shifts, give Teressa Dewey a call at (541) and she will get you on the schedule. This is a great way to meet new people and interact with the kids and community. CHRISTMAS IN NOVEMBER Don t miss out on the 2nd Annual Christmas in November Vendor Fair. PAC is sponsoring the event, which will be held in both gyms on November 21st from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Although last year s fair was a huge success, we expect this year s to be even bigger and better! Santa will make an appearance from noon to 2:00 pm for an opportunity for Pictures with Santa. The Imbler Education Foundation will provide a Pulled Pork Meal for $5 Silent Auction and raffle items Many great Christmas gift items to purchase. *We are also accepting donations of used books to be sold at the vendor fair to earn money for PAC programs. 7 FFA NEWS By McKayla Hoskin, Reporter Hello everyone! October was a busy month for FFA members with leadership camp, judging contests, hog raffle and cider press! Advanced and Greenhand FFA officers both attended the 2015 District Leadership Camp and had a blast! Both teams took the blue banner in the rituals contest and many of the officers won overall individual officer. The camp taught all of us about leadership skills, and we were able to meet our state officers. We are looking forward to taking what we learned and putting it into action with our chapter. Our two major fundraisers--cider press and hog raffle--were successful during October thanks to our great supporters in the community! The hog raffle drawing took place at Imbler on the 23rd with four lucky winners each winning a half of a hog. All Ag class students participate in the cider press, and much of the cider is pressed by hand-turned wooden presses. However, Cove FFA was gracious enough to again let us borrow their hydraulic cider press. This speeds up the process and allows us to press more apples in a smaller amount of time. The cider is delicious and the perfect way to celebrate fall. Be sure to purchase cider for your holiday festivities! Imbler FFA members just returned from the 88th National FFA Convention in Kentucky from October 23 through November 1, Convention was a great place to meet new people and, of course, sightsee back east! Members toured agricultural industries of Tennessee and Kentucky including horse farms, distilleries and Corvette manufacturing. The sea of blue jackets seemed endless, as over 60,000 members from all over the country gathered together to witness the best teams in the nation compete in various FFA competitions and share in leadership experiences. Our two community service programs will kick off in November. On November 5th, the Imbler FFA will work to clean its portion of Highway 82 near Alicel, OR. On November 11th (Veteran s Day) our members will be raking leaves for people throughout the community. It is not a fundraiser, but rather an opportunity to support the community that never fails to support our school and FFA chapter. If you know of a family or individual who needs help raking leaves due to physical limitations, please contact Mr. Cant at the school ( ).
