1 RY November 2014 issue THE ROTARY FOUNDATION MONTH In the US, November is Thanksgiving Month and that is probably why our TRF Annual Giving Banquet is also in November. It is that time of the year when we recognize and show our deepest appreciation to our contributors to the Foundation. To its credit, our district over the past several years has always been at the forefront in giving to the Foundation and availing of its many programs for our humanitarian projects. Let us then honor and extend our heartfelt gratitude to this year s generous contributors. Likewise, thank you all once again for your participation and support to our District Rotary Day. You have put in tremendous effort and resources to organize our job fair, medical/dental mission, legal counselling and other services which benefited hundreds of the less fortunate members of our communities. And of course our special thanks to the Rotary Club of Marikina Uptown and Zone 4 Marikina for our RotaRun. We are nearing the first half of our term and we look forward to more exciting activities in the coming months as we continue in our tasks to attain our goals and objectives. Best Class Governor Marilou O. Co District Rotary Day: Medical Mission & Job Fair District RotaRun
2 PAGE 2 GOVERNOR S MONTHLY LETTER 1 st ever District Forum on Alternative Learning System held In celebration of the Vocational Service Month, RID 3800 held its first-ever District Forum on Alternative Learning System (ALS) at the Bulwagan ng Karunungan, Department of Education (DepEd), Pasig City, in the afternoon of October 25, Themed Alternatibong Edukasyon: Tungo sa Progresibong Bokasyon, the forum aims to orient RCs on the ALS as an alternative mode in basic education and enable them to spot opportunities to assist the government in its fight against illiteracy and poverty. It was hosted by RC Marikina North chaired by PP Edith de Ello and BCP Richie Villareal. DepEd officials, namely Dr. Carolina S. Guerrero and Ms. Ivy Coney Gamatero, introduced the ALS as an alternative to formal education where learners who are least and lost in life are taught life skills. Brgy. Captain and PP Mary Jane de la Rosa of Concepcion Dos, Marikina City, gave insights on how the ALS could be better implemented at the barangay level. Success stories were told by three ALS qualifiers. Marikina Congressman and Rtn. Miro Quimbo gave a short evaluation on the ALS forum. DAR Undersecretary and PP Anthony Parungao served as emcee and open forum moderator. Photo sessions and raffles capped the forum attended by around a hundred Rotarians. BCG Marilou Co encouraged Rotarians to take advantage of the learnings gained to improve the lives of others. She urged RCs to freely discuss with her office how to best implement or support the ALS.
