DuBray Mr. Justin Musgrove Principal Superintendent Assistant Principal November 2621 Highway K O Fallon, MO Dear Dardenne Families, Our Dardenne Knights continue to grow and learn thanks to the partnership we have with our parents. I want to thank everyone who came to Parent Teacher Conferences. Our teachers find these conferences to be a valuable use of time that can help establish a plan for continued success. I hope you were able to gain a greater understanding of your child s performance. We ve been fortunate to see so many families supporting our school by attending events, helping with our fundraiser, and encouraging their child to do their best. The Dardenne staff has talked about having a growth mindset over the last four weeks. A growth mindset is much different than a fixed mindset. A fixed mindset is when people believe their intelligence and talents are fixed traits which cannot be impacted by one s actions. A growth mindset uses a different lens. A growth mindset is when people believe their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication, determination, and hard work. It is important students, and adults, have a growth mindset. I would like to compare the two mindsets by including some phrases associated with each one: Growth Mindset I can learn anything I want. I can always improve. Fixed Mindset I m either good at it, or I m not. When I m frustrated, I work harder and persevere. I want to challenge myself. When I fail, I can still learn and that learning make me stronger. My effort and my attitude determines everything so effort is necessary. When I m frustrated, I give up I don t like to be challenged so I will give up easily. When I fail, I m no good. Failure becomes an identity. My abilities determine everything. I can t do anything to change that so why produce any effort? Growth mindset is not the same as self-esteem. Growth mindset is an attitude that translates into actions. At Dardenne, we want to encourage kids to reach their potential. We believe this can happen when we have a growth mindset. I am excited about this school year because I am seeing students, staff, and parents working together. We know our students can learn at high levels and we each have a responsibility to make sure that happens. Please take time to review this Knightline. If your child did not get their picture taken in September this is their chance to show their beautiful smile and get their picture taken for the yearbook. 4 PARENT INFORMATION Right outside the office when you enter the building there is an information rack for parents. Please feel free to take any flyers, brochures and pamphlets that you find there. This month you will find information including: Youth Programs, Boys and Girls Club activities, Scouts, November Knight Line, Current Menu along with district information. Please check the rack throughout the year for updated PTC Information as well as new information from Fort Zumwalt or click the Peachjar button on our website for the most current information. VETERAN S DAY BREAKFAST AND ASSEMBLY Wednesday, November 11th 8:15 AM 9:20 AM MAKE-UP WORK Make-up work may be requested for your child if you feel they may be out of school for several days by contacting the school office. Homework requests received in the office by noon may be picked up at the end of the school day. Requests received after noon may be picked up the next day. Students are given one day for each day missed to complete and return assignments made during their absence.

You can also find it on the Dardenne Website! This packet has valuable information on many of the rules and regulations here at Dardenne Elementary! Dardenne Pre Black Friday Vendor Fair Box Tops for Education Our school participates in the Box Top program and has earned extra money this year to fund activities and purchase materials for our students. You can help out by watching for Box Tops on specially marked products. Simply clip and send the box tops to school. Where: Dardenne Elementary When: Friday, November 20th from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm PANCAKES, & A VISIT FROM SANTA!! MORE INFORMATION TO COME!! INCLEMENT WEATHER In the case of a school closing or early dismissal due to inclement weather, parents will be notified by the automated School Messenger system. The information will also be posted on the district website ( as well as on local TV stations (2, 4, 5, and 30) and local radio stations (KMOX 1120 AM, KWRE 730 AM, and WIL 92.3 FM). Please make sure your phone numbers are current in our student data system. Dardenne Elementary is a nonsmoking campus. State law prohibits anyone from smoking in any school building and our District policy further bans smoking on any school campus. Thank you for your help in this matter!

6 Mark your calendar!! Dress for Respect Day will be Wednesday, November 11th! This is also Veteran s Day, and the day of the Veteran s Day Assembly, so please wear something that makes you feel good about yourself and shows respect to you and others! Mrs. Mills will be visiting classrooms, in November, and addressing the topics of tattling versus reporting, and gossip and rumors. Counseling groups will be starting the week of November 16th. Groups will be held on C, D and E days. No School Friday, November 6th Professional Development Day No School Thanksgiving Break Wednesday, Nov. 25th Friday, Nov. 27th RECESS CLOTHING As the weather gets colder it is important to dress your child accordingly. We will have outdoor recess each day unless there is inclement weather preventing students from going outside. Hats, coats, and gloves are a good idea as we head into the cold winter months!!

I planted one and pulled the weeds. It sprouted roots and a big, long vine. A pumpkin grew; I called it mine. The pumpkin was quite round and fat. (I really am quite proud of that.) But there is something I'll admit That has me worried just a bit. I ate the other seed, you see. Now will it grow inside of me?
