Germ President, Rotary International John and Judy Germ John F. Germ, a member of the Rotary Club of Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA, and chair of the International PolioPlus Committee, is the President of RI in Germ says no one should ever have to ask, What is Rotary? We will enhance Rotary s public image by successfully and enthusiastically marketing who we are, what amazing things we are doing, and incredibly, have done locally and globally, says Germ. With the global economy still unpredictable, Germ says Rotary must make participation affordable and also be unfailingly diligent in efforts to ensure we spend every dollar effectively and efficiently, he says. In 1965, after four years in the U.S. Air Force, Germ, an engineer, joined Campbell and Associates Inc., an engineering consulting firm. He now serves as the company s board chair and chief executive officer. DG Chris Runion and Jennifer greet RI President John Germ and Judy. DG Chris taking a call inviting all 7570 Rotarians to the 2017 Rotary International Convention in Atlanta June 10-14, He also serves on the boards of several organizations including the Public Education Foundation, Orange Grove Center Inc., and the Blood Assurance Inc. He is the founder and treasurer of the Chattanooga State Technical Community College Foundation and is president of the Tennessee Jaycee Foundation. In 1970 he was recognized as Tennessee Young Man of the Year, Engineer of the Year, and Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year in A Rotary member since 1976, Germ has served Rotary as vice president, director, Foundation trustee and vice chair, chair of Rotary s US$200 Million Challenge, and RI president s aide. He is a recipient of Rotary s Service Above Self Award and The Rotary Foundation s Citation for Meritorious Service and Distinguished Service Award. He and his wife, Judy, are members of the Arch Klumph Society. Rotary will adapt to a rapidly changing world by embracing innovation within the guidelines of our tradition and values, says Germ. By aggressively embracing new technologies, social media, and new opportunities, individuals and businesses will see that Rotary helps promote a good civic and public image while adding credibility to their people. 2

3 Joe Mulkerrin RI Director Eric E. Adamson RI Director RI Vice President Joe Joe Mulkerrin was born and raised in Medford, Massachusetts. He attended Malden Catholic H.S. in Malden, MA, where he excelled in both baseball and basketball and was inducted into the Malden Catholic High School Hall of Fame for both sports. Joe won numerous racquetball tournaments at the state, regional and national levels in various age and ability categories. Joe graduated with a Bachelor of Science egree in Business Administration from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. He then served over twenty years in the U.S. Navy, as an unrestricted, surface line officer. Upon retirement from the military, he became a general partner and operating manager of a full fitness racquetball club, Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow (LUTCF) with Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company, Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) with CIGNA Group Insurance, then retired from General Dynamics in March He married Ann Barrett Mulkerrin of Cambridge, Massachusetts in Ann is an Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of Hampton Roads, Major Donor (Level 2), Benefactor. Joe has been a Rotarian for over 30 years. He is a Past President of our club, a Past Governor of Rotary International, District 7600, a Rotary Foundation Multiple Paul Harris Fellow, Major Donor (Level 2), Bequest Society Member, Benefactor and Paul Harris Society Member. He recently served as Rotary International Assembly Training Leader, San Diego (2014) Eric and Linda Eric joined the Rotary Club of Front Royal in 1974, He was President of his club in 1980 and District Governor for District 7570 in He was Director of Rotary International Board of Directors and Vice President of Rotary International He has been District RYLA Chair and District Polio Chair raising over $700,000 for Polio Eradication. He has participated in and visited Foundation matching grant projects in South Africa, Costa Rica, Argentina and India. He was a GSE team leader to Argentina in Active in RI Council on Legislation matters, Eric was a delegate in India in 1998, C&B committee chair and COL Operations Committee in 2001, and member at large to Council in 2004 and Eric has chaired several RI Committees and served as an International Assembly Instructor. He currently is board member and past chair of the Zone 33 Rotary Leadership Institute. He was awarded the Service Above Self award from Rotary International in He received the Award for Meritorious Service from the Rotary Foundation. He has represented the President of Rotary International at many District Conferences. Eric and his wife Linda are Major Donors and Special Bequest Society Members. In his community, Eric has also volunteered his services. He has been a Trustee of a National Trust for Historic Preservation estate, a vestryman, Sunday school teacher, a member of the Board of local hospital, and is a Trustee and Corporate Secretary of the Northern Virginia Regional 4-H Board. Eric retired from active private law practice but is active as a real estate investor and owns a health club. He attended the University of Virginia where he received his B.A. and Juris Doctor degrees and George Washington University where he obtained a Masters of Law in Taxation. He and his wife have four grown children and six grandchildren of whom they are very proud. 3

4 Christopher Runion District Governor Richard F. Ray District Governor Chris and Jennifer Chris Runion lives near Bridgewater, VA and is a member of the Rotary Club of Harrisonburg. Chris joined Rotary in 1992 as a charter member of the Rotary Club of Harrisonburg - Massanutten and joined his current home club in Chris has served as Club President, Assistant Governor for Area 3 and Co-chair of the District Training Committee. Chris also has served on the Board of the Harrisonburg Rotary Club, the Membership Committee, the Fundraising Committee, Membership Development Committee and the Rotary Local Charities Golf Tournament Committee. Chris has had perfect attendance since 2008, is a graduate of the Rotary Leadership Institute, Sustaining Member and a Paul Harris Fellow. Chris received his BS in Accounting from Virginia Tech and a MBA from James Madison University. He has worked in the private sector for over 33 years and currently serves as President of Eddie Edwards Signs, Inc. Chris has served on numerous boards and commissions including Harrisonburg - Rockingham United Way, Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce, Rockingham Memorial Hospital Foundation, Bridgewater Healthcare Foundation and the Rockingham County Planning Commission. Chris also currently serves on Virginia NFIB Leadership Council and the boards of Shenandoah Valley Economic Education, Inc. Farmers and Merchants Bank and Rockingham Group. Chris wife, Jennifer, a Paul Harris Fellow, has taught early childhood students for over 30 years in both public and private school systems and currently serves as Director and Instructor for the Community Preschool located in Harrisonburg. Chris and Jennifer have two adult sons, Marshall who lives in Dayton, VA and works with Chris in the family business. Their second son, Joshua, lives and works in Dallas TX. Chris and Jennifer enjoy traveling including bicycling and other outdoor activities. Dick and Ginger Dick and Ginger Ray live in Jonesborough, TN. Dick is a 25 year member of the Rotary Club of Johnson City, having served as president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer. While club president in , his club received the District Governor s Award for Rotary Club of the Year. At the district level Dick has served as Assistant Governor, Foundation District Grants Chair, two District Conference Steering Committees and the Group Study Exchange Committee. He received his Area s 110% Award and the Four Avenues of Service Citation. Dick has participated in three Global Projects in Africa, Central, and South America. He is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, Double Sustainer, Benefactor, and Skelton Fellow. Dick is a native of Athens, TN and is a graduate of East Tennessee State University (BS Economics) and the University of Tennessee (Masters of Accountancy). He is a Certified Public Accountant. Rising to Manager at Price Waterhouse, he then served as Chief Financial Officer of Marley USA from as it grew from startup to a $500 million business. After a successful sale of Marley, Dick became Chief Financial Officer of Medex Laboratories, and within 90 days led the company into a Chapter 11 filing, resulting in a successful reorganization. Since 2005 Dick has focused on business restructuring (Trustee, Receiver or Reorganization Officer) and forensic accounting services. Dick is certified in business valuation, economic damages and fraud examination, having served as expert witness in various Federal and State jurisdictions. Ginger is a native of Fayetteville, TN and grew up in Huntsville, AL. Ginger is a graduate of the University of Tennessee. Specializing in health related social services, she is employed by Mountain States Health Alliance as the Hospice bereavement coordinator. Ginger is a Paul Harris Fellow, and traveled with Dick on Global Projects in Colombia and Guatemala. Dick and Ginger have three grown children (each Paul Harris Fellows), Lesley, Warren, and Mary Ables, son-in-law Jeremy and two grandchildren, Lex and Luke. Dick and Ginger enjoy gardening, traveling, reading, scuba and horses. 4

Karnes II, lives in Front Royal, VA and is a member of the Rotary Club of Warren County. George joined Rotary in 2009 and served as club president George has served District 7570 as an Assistant Governor for Area 1, District Conference Steering Committee Member for 2014 and led a GSE team to Taiwan in He is a Rotary Leadership Institute graduate, Double Sustainer, Multiple Paul Harris Fellow and Paul Harris Society member. George has a passion for service and has served as a director on multiple boards including the United Way, Boy Scouts of America and the Warren County Educational Endowment. Through his church, he has organized an annual day of service dedicated to local service projects in participation with the State of Virginia Day to Serve and as a counselor to church members in need of financial assistance. Professionally, George is a Vice President and Financial Advisor with Wells Fargo Advisors and specializes in helping clients pay for college, plan for and live in retirement and transfer wealth to future generations. He holds his Series 7 & 66 licenses and is an Accredited Asset Management Specialist (AAMS). Formerly, George was a technologist and principle for Financial Securities Information Systems (FSIS) an IT consulting company specializing in Wide Area Network (WAN) projects. He held credentials as a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) and A Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP). His career has taken him to all 50 US states and internationally to Canada, Mexico, England, Ireland, France, Switzerland & Japan. George sold his interest in FSIS in 2004 taking a four year sabbatical to spend time with his family. George s wife Lannette is a graduate of Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and is a Paul Harris Fellow. Lannette is an active participant in Rotary projects and fundraising events and is a critical support in George s Rotary service. Lannette manages their real estate business Emerald Isle Management which includes Mini- Storage & Rental Properties. They have four children Wyatt, Rachel, Tara and Zachary. PAG James R. 6 Area 1 Assistant Governors Gary Chrisman (Gary) Clarke County Front Royal Frederick County Warren County Winchester Gary joined the RC of Winchester in 1984, served as President in He is a Multiple PHF, Sustainer, Benefactor, and a recipient of the Skelton Fellow, Cliff Dochterman and Avenues of Service Awards. He has served on the District Scholarship Comm. and attended the RI Convention in Salt Lake City. Gary has a B.S. from Shepherd University. He is the President of Apple Valley Office Products, the Authorized Xerox Sales Agent since He served on the Winchester City Council for 10 years and was the Mayor of Winchester Gary served on the Board of the Chamber of Commerce, ASAP, Service Authority, Parks Board & Chairman, Judges Athletic Assoc & President, and in 1976 was the Founder and current Treasurer of the Virginia Flag Football Assoc. He is actively involved in the BSA and is on the Executive Board of Shenandoah Area Council BSA. Gary has been married to Martha for over 37 years. Area 2 Kathy Kanter (Kathy) Broadway-Timberville Luray Mt. Jackson-Edinburg New Market Strasburg Woodstock Kathleen Kanter joined the Strasburg RC in 2007 and has served 2 terms as president. She has served on the District Scholarship, Endowed Scholarship, and the Grant committee. She assists Bryon in his role as the District 7570 liaison for Zone Caribbean Partnership. She graduated from ODU, with a BS in Dental Hygiene. While continuing to work part time, she helped start a dental hygiene program at Lord Fairfax Community College. She volunteers as a bookkeeper for the Community Foundation of the Northern Shenandoah Valley. She and her husband PDG Byron Brill live in Strasburg and enjoy travel, reading, entertaining, and especially Rotary. Area3 Matthew C. Sunderlin (Matt) Bridgewater Harrisonburg Harrisonburg-Massanutten Rockingham County Matt joined the Rotary Club of Harrisonburg in He was president from Professionally, he is an Elder Law and Estate Planning Attorney who practices in Harrisonburg, VA. This law firm is a general practice law firm with 6 attorneys and 2 CPAs which was founded in He grew up in Winchester, VA and graduated from Hampden-Sydney College and Regent University School of Law. He has been married to Lisa for over 20 years. Area 4 Diane Woodson (Diane) Nelson County Staunton Staunton-Augusta County Waynesboro Waynesboro East Augusta Diane has been a member of the Rotary Club of Staunton-Augusta County since She served as Club President , and Area 4 Foundation Advocate Diane is a Paul Harris Fellow, Sustainer, and an RLI graduate. She and her family served as a host family for a Rotary Youth Exchange student sponsored by the Nelson County Rotary Club. Professionally, Diane is Vice President, Real Estate, with Fisher Auto Parts. She has a BA in Accounting from Loyola College, and an MBA from Harvard. Diane lives in Waynesboro with her husband, Tom, and their son, Joe. The entire family went with a Rotary contingent to St. Lucia to distribute wheelchairs. In her free time, Diane enjoys running, playing the piano and singing at church. Area 5 Gary Christie (Gary) Altavista Amherst Bedford Forest Lynchburg Lynchburg Morning Smith Mountain Lake Gary joined the Lynchburg Morning RC in 2007 (Secretary/Treasurer) having previously been a Rotary member in New Kent, Culpeper, South Boston (Club President), and Princeton (WV). He has served on the District Public Relations Committee and is a PHF, Sustainer. He directs the Region 2000 Local Government Council and volunteers on the Boards of the James River Arts Council (Treasurer) and the Lynchburg Symphony. Gary is a Hampden-Sydney graduate, an avid barbershopper, and married to Fran Christie. Area 6 Marc Hudson (Marc) Buchanan Buena Vista Covington-Hot Springs Lexington Lexington Sunrise Marc has been a Rotarian since He was President of the Lexington Sunrise Rotary Club in He served as International Service Director and is the current Club Foundation Chair. A multiple Paul Harris Fellow, he has served as the Area 6 Foundation Chair for several years. An optometrist for over twenty years, Marc practices in Lexington, VA where he has the best patients in the world. Participating in over twenty international mission trips (three with Rotary) Marc has provided eye care to lots of folks in Central and South America. A pastpresident of the Virginia Optometric Association, Marc volunteers for several optometric organizations. He likes to bicycle, swim, garden and read. Marc gets his eyes examined by his wife Diane, who practices optometry in Harrisonburg, where they live in marital bliss. 6

He is a graduate of UVA and the T.C. Williams School of Law, He is a retired Circuit Court Judge, on the Board of the Am Canoe Association, and on the Board for Third Chance Ministries in Danville. He and Tina enjoy working around their small farm, visiting with family including grandchildren and friends and church work. Area 8 Andrea Milliron (Andrea) Blue Ridge-New Generations Glenvar Roanoke Roanoke-Downtown Roanoke Valley Rocky Mount Salem Andrea joined the Rotary Club of Roanoke- Downtown in April, She has served as Membership Chair and Fundraiser Chair as well as serving as President in and again in Andrea is a Paul Harris Fellow and a current Sustainer. Andrea graduated from Virginia Tech (BS, HIDM 1987) and is Vice President, Business Development for Member One Federal Credit Union in Roanoke. She currently serves on the board of Family Service of Roanoke Valley (Chairman, 2010). Her partner, Patrick Oberg, works in Private Equity and they reside in Roanoke. Area 9 Thomas E. Bell (Tom) Blacksburg Christiansburg Christiansburg-Blacksburg Floyd County Giles County Montgomery County Radford Radford Noon Tom joined the Christiansburg-Blacksburg Club in 2003 and soon was enjoying participating in its projects and tasks. He became Treasurer, serving for 11 years, and works with Rotaract at the local and District levels. He was President in Tom is an RLI graduate, a Skelton Fellow, Paul Harris Fellow and Sustainer committed to the PH Society, and a Benefactor. Tom has a Masters Degree in Chemistry and one in Management. He worked in research at the Frederick Cancer Research Center before joining the Department of Chemistry at Virginia Tech where he is Assistant Chair for Research. He is also active in his local church, in Gideons International, and is a member of Torch Club International. Tom has four grown sons and four grandchildren from his first marriage and just married his long-time friend become sweetheart, Connie. Area 10 Charlotte Whitted Bluefield VA Russell County Tazewell Charlotte Whitted joined the Tazewell RC in 2006 and served as President in She became a Paul Harris Fellow in 2012, She graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a B.A. in American History. She is the Executive Director of Historic Crab Orchard Museum in Tazewell, a professional position she has held for eleven years. She holds volunteer positions as Chairman of the Tazewell County Recreational Development Authority, as well as member of the Tazewell County Tourism Committee and the Virginia Association of Museums Council. She and her three children enjoy living on a farm in scenic Burke s Garden. She also is an active singer/songwriter, volunteering artistically for the Healing Blues project to benefit the homeless. Area 11 David Blair (David) Hillsville Marion Marion Morning Pulaski Wytheville Wytheville Morning David joined the Wytheville club in 1998 and served as President in He is a Paul Harris Fellow and Sustainer as well as serving on many club committees. David is a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a BS in Public Administration, is self- employed with various business interests including real estate and radio. He and his wife Sage a Nurse Practitioner in psychiatry, live in Wytheville where they stay busy with music, dancing and other entertainment. Any spare time is spent enjoying family, travel and their much loved cats. Area 12 Susan Ojanen (Susan) Abingdon Bristol VA-TN Bristol Morning Mountain City Washington County Susan joined the Bristol, VA-TN club in 1996 and served as president in She is a PHF, Sustainer, and Skelton Fellow. Susan has served on several committees, was Co-chair of the District Conference 2011 Planning Committee, and a member of the District Conference 2015 Planning Committee. In her business, Small Steps Wellness, Susan coaches clients to achieve their health goals. Susan and her husband, Randy, live in Bristol, TN. They have two children and three grandchildren. 7

8 Area 13 Paul Montgomery (Paul) Kingsport Kingsport-Downtown Kingsport-Sunrise Scott County Tri-Cities TN Paul joined the Rotary Club of Kingsport in 1996 and has served as president and is a PHF. He is the VP, Asset Development for the Northeast State Community College. A native of Glade Springs, VA, he earned his BA and MBA from King College. He has served as president of the Kingsport Board of Education, Kingsport Branch of the NAACP and Kingsport Chamber. He serves on the boards of ETSU Foundation and King University Board of Trustees. He has received a number of honors for professional and community service. Paul and his wife Cherry reside in Kingsport and have two children. Area 14 Richie Torbett (Richie) Elizabethton Greeneville Greeneville Morning Johnson City Johnson City Evening Johnson City Morning Unicoi County Richie joined the RC of Johnson City in 2004 and has served as president, secretary, and foundation chair. He is a PHF, Sustainer, a 110% award recipient and served on the District Conference Committees twice. He has hosted GSE team members and will be hosting a summer exchange student in He is a graduate of the UT with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. Since 2002 he founded 3 IT companies and sold two. He currently runs FiberConNext, a structured cabling company. He serves the BSA as VP of the Sequoyah Council and serves on the boards of Tweetsie Trail and Friends of Old Downtown Johnson City. Richie is married to Rotarian, Ambre Torbett who is the past president of the Kingsport RC. They have two children, McKayla who is 15 and AJ who is 9. They have two grown children, Mary Dare and Trey. Over the past 27 years, Nina Beth has served as controller for several companies in the Chatham area. Nina Beth is an active member of Watson United Methodist Church where she has served as Finance Committee Chair for over 10 years. She enjoys singing in the choir and playing the flute. Nina Beth joined the Chatham Rotary Club in 2012 and has served on committees and as president in She is a multiple PHF, Sustainer, RLI graduate, a Paul Harris Society member, and recipient of the District Governor 110% Award.
