2 Lakelands Park Middle School After School Activities Program September 27, 2016 May 10, 2017 Lakelands Park Middle School offers an exciting variety of after school opportunities from 3:15 4:30 PM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (excluding half days, unscheduled early release days, or the day before a school holiday). We will serve a hot supper meal from 3:00 to 3:15 pm in the school cafeteria. While participating in the After School Activity Program, students have the opportunity to practice leadership skills and improve their abilities in academic, musical, artistic, athletic, and other endeavors which suit their creativity and personal interests. Under the supervision of a supportive, caring, and competent professional staff member or volunteer, a student will often develop an avocation that will remain a lifelong interest and source of enjoyment. The After School Activities Program is supported by the availability of transportation. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, three activity buses depart LPMS at 4:35PM. Please note that participating in LPMS after school activities as well as riding the activity bus is a privilege, not a right. Students must obtain an activity bus pass from the sponsor of their activity, which is required for access to the activity bus. Students will not be allowed to take the activity bus without this pass. In addition, students who are absent the day of an after school or evening activity may not participate in the activity. Please note: if your child does not ride the activity bus and will have another form of transportation home, it is imperative that your child is picked up at the dismissal time of 4:30 pm. If you think that transportation cannot make it by the 4:30 pm pick up time, please secure another ride home for your child. If transportation becomes a chronic issue (transportation arrives after 4:30 pm three times during the school year), your child may be asked to not participate in the after school activity until proper transportation is provided. ETRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES FEE -- COLLECTION PROCEDURES -- Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) requires a fee for all middle school and high school students participating in extracurricular activities. This yearly fee covers all school supported activities that a student may choose to participate in during school year. Additional fees may be required for activities offered in addition to the LPMS supported activities, such as the PTSA activities being offered this school year. *A fee is not required for students receiving academic assistance such as homework clubs and math help. Pre-printed Extracurricular Activity Fee (ECA) forms are available in the main office or on the MCPS website: Payment should be sent directly to the address listed on the form (please, do NOT send payment to LPMS). You may also pay the fee in person at 850 Hungerford Drive, Room 154, Rockville, MD There will be no refunds. Fee amounts are as follows: Gross family income above $35, Fee $32.50 Gross family income less than $35, Fee $15 ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY The MCPS policy establishing eligibility standards for participation in extracurricular activities is available in full on the MCPS website (Policy IQD, Regulation IQR- RB for Middle School Students). In summary, it reads: The policy will not apply to 1 st quarter for 6 th grade students or any student entering MCPS schools for the first time. It also does not apply to students engaged in activities which are extensions of a graded course. Students in grade 6-12 must maintain a 2.0 grade point average with no more than one E in the previous marking period to be eligible to participate in the listed activities. A student s report card will state whether they are eligible for extra-curricular activities. Per MCPS policy, only 7 th and 8 th grade students may participate in interscholastic sports activities. All students may participate in intramural activities.

Our schedule will require a greater time commitment in the weeks leading up to the performance, possibly meeting all three days. Need homework help? Want to type? Need a place to work on projects and assignments? Need a quiet place to read books, ebooks and magazines, and check out books? Enjoy playing chess, Lego, cards, and other fun computer games? Visit the Media Center on Wednesdays after school! Club starts Wednesday, September 28 th in the Media Center. If you enjoy making and creating things, the Makerspace Club is for you! You can crochet, do origami, Legos, make friendship bracelets, toothbrush creations, and cardboard projects. Art supplies are provided. The possibility and creativity are endless! Club starts Wednesday, September 28 th in the Media Center. ALL LPMS ESOL students are invited to practice English after school! Homework time first, followed by games, music, movies and more! Come out and get to know your ESOL classmates. Club meets every Thursday in room 257. Club starts Thursday, September 29 th in room 257. The purpose of the Student Government Association (SGA) is to provide the student body with a voice in school affairs. The SGA is involved in many activities and events throughout the school year. For example, the SGA sponsors and assists with school Spirit Weeks, fundraisers, and Teacher Appreciation Week. Club starts Tuesday, October 4 th in room 105. The Newspaper Club meets once a week on Wednesdays in Room 168 and the Computer Lab. There are 40 seats available. If you enjoy writing, photography, or creating artwork and puzzles, we hope you will join us to have fun and see your work published in The Falcon Flier. Club starts Wednesday, October 5 th with an informational meeting in room 168. Art Club will meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursday each month. We will plan, sketch and paint on paper, canvas and banner cloths, using themes related to school subjects, character traits and cultural concepts. This club is for students in grades 6, 7, and 8. Bring your creativity and dedication and have fun! Club starts Thursday, October 6 th in the Art room 142. Students will have the opportunity to stay after school in order to get support from a teacher or to use school resources (internet, books, computers, etc. Students will be responsible for signing up for homework club on the days that they wish to stay.
