1 TROY HIGH SCHOOL WARRIOR WEEKLY September 23, 2016 This week I would like to begin with news from some of our girls fall athletic programs. This week our Girls Golf Team participated in a tournament during which we defeated Fullerton, Marina, Sunny Hills, and Sonora high schools. This team is performing very well and look like they are having fun! Our Girls Volleyball has played a couple of tough opponents this week and emerged victorious when they defeated a very tough Yorba Linda team on Tuesday night. This was followed by a victory over La Habra yesterday as Freeway League play opened for the season! Last but not least, our Girls Tennis team has been having a solid season with a Varsity win over Sunny Hills on Wednesday! All of our teams are playing well, and for those sports that are spectator friendly (unfortunately, not golf), come out and watch us play! Varsity

2 For a couple of years Troy High School s Cyber Defense teams have been making some news as they have rapidly grown from just a few students to hundreds. They have participated in our Cyber Defense clubs, competitions, camps, and classes. For the school year we have 120 Troy students on our Cyber Defense teams! A huge part of our Cyber Defense success and subsequent growth has been due to Commander Allen Stubblefield. With twenty years of service as a U.S. Naval Officer, and a bachelor s degree in Mathematics and master s degree in Computer Science he is exceptionally qualified to teach Cyber Defense. By the way, I hope everyone has taken heed of the reminder Commander sent out yesterday regarding the worldwide Yahoo username and password security breach. I have already changed my password. Commander practices what he preaches. It is this attention to detail that was noticed by the U.S. Air Force, when they recognized Commander Stubblefield as their Cyber Patriot Coach of the Year. Commander travelled last weekend to a ceremony in Washington D.C. and received his recognition and award! The award is currently on limited display in the Main Office for further inspection for those that would like to take a closer look. Congratulations to Commander Stubblefield! This week our fantastic counseling staff has been feverishly wrapping up senior student meetings and starting freshman student-parent counseling conferences. These meetings are new to our freshmen as they being the process with their counselors of reviewing college entrance requirements, create their individualized 4-year course plan, and receive additional resources to help with both high school and college planning. During the course of the school year, juniors

3 and sophomores will also have conferences to ensure they have stayed the course they began in 9 th grade. Also this week, on Tuesday our counselors held a huge Q & A session in the staff lounge for our parents. There were more than 50 families in attendance, and the counselors were able to answer a number of questions regarding Troy and various college planning topics. In case you missed the Q & A session, there will be another opportunity on November 15 th from 2-3:00pm in the Staff Lounge. A reminder notification will go out to all our families via telephone and as this date approaches. Once again, thank you to our counselors! This is a current picture of our Engineering lab as provided by Engineering instructor, Mr. Kent Goodman. Please notice how organized the equipment, student desks, and storage are within this classroom. This vastly improved space can be credited to the work of FJUSHD M&O, under the direction of Mr. Todd Butcher. This is just one of the many visible improvements that have been made at Troy, and there are two really large projects about to begin with our imminent pool construction, and early next year, our gym modernization. Thank you to our Board of Education, Superintendent, and parent community for making these projects possible!

4 On Wednesday during 6 th period I had the honor of presenting a special award to Troy teacher, Mrs. Michael Hinman. Last year Troy graduate, Varun Mandi was a Coca-Cola Scholarship winner. Subsequently, Mr. Mandi was given the opportunity to select the teacher he felt had the most impact on him during his educational experience and he wisely chose Mrs. Hinman. Not coincidently, she was also selected as Troy s Educator of the Year by our PTSA. While I would have loved to present the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Educator of Distinction Award to Mrs. Hinman at our Homecoming Rally today, she avoids recognition and we had to trick her to recognize her last year. I am pretty sure if she knew about this award beforehand she would have attempted to hide in the crowd, not wanting to be recognized in front of such a large audience. Much deserved congratulations to Mrs. Michael Hinman on this prestigious award! I am looking forward to our Homecoming Rallies today! Don t forget we are on a double assembly schedule. With our Homecoming Rally Spacecoming theme this year, these are going to be some fantastic rallies! Cheer, band, ASB, and other student groups have all been working to have this major kick off for Homecoming become one of our best to date so students, you are not going to want to miss the rally, game, or dance! This weekend, our Band is holding their annual Goodwill event for used clothing, small kitchen appliances, electronics, etc. I have attached a description of the types of items that can be donated, as well as the types of items that should be disposed of somewhere else. The event will be held in Troy s Northeast parking lot off Dorothy Lane near State College Blvd from 7:00am to 5:00pm. Clean out unused items and donate to a good cause!

5 Next week is the annual Buena Park, Fullerton, and Troy College Night held at Troy High School. Troy Guidance Tech, Mr. Carlos Aldaco has coordinated over 142 public and private colleges and universities, as well as most of the U.S. military academies in attendance. Don t miss this event, as it is worth every second!

6 It is going to be a fantastic Friday night to get out and see a high school football game! It does not get any better than a nice cool fall evening in Fullerton District Stadium watching the Troy Homecoming Game! Our team is currently 2-1 and coming off a bye week. I think our team is ready to have a great game against Valencia High School, one of our Placentia-Yorba Linda rivals! I am sure we have a large turnout for our Homecoming Game, and I hope everyone is able to make it! Regardless, I wish everyone a nice weekend spent with plenty of time to relax and unwind from another busy week. I will see everyone back here on Monday! W. V. Mynster
