5 SUMMER DAY CAMP PROGRAMS PLAYGROUND PROGRAM Rookies boys and girls entering grades K-1 in the fall of 2018 Intermediates boys and girls entering grades 2-4 in the fall of 2018 Both the rookies and the intermediates meet at Vernon Park. In the event of rain, we meet at the Hut. The program runs from July 2nd Aug. 24 th Camp runs from 8:00 am 3:00 pm. Extended hours are available until 5:30 pm. Both the rookies and the intermediates will participate in a variety of games and activities during the week, as well as arts and crafts, tennis lessons, and weekly offisland field trips. A bag lunch is also included! EXTREME TEEN CLUB For boys and girls entering grades 5-8 in the fall of 2018 The Extreme Teen Club provides middle school aged students a place to congregate and participate in a supervised environment. A variety of activities, both active and passive, are offered. The Extreme Teen Club meets at The Hut from 8:00 am- 3:00 pm. Extended hours are available until 5:30. Weekly off island field trips to places such as Sky Zone, Water Wizz, and the Pawsox are all included in the weekly fee, as is a bag lunch! Register on-line at: Register.communitypass.net REGISTRATION FEES AND OPTIONS You may register for the Playground Program and the Extreme Teen Club on a daily or weekly basis. Please be advised that you must register for a minimum of two days. These days MUST be confirmed in advance!! All payments must be made on line or at the Recreation office and pre-registration is required. The camp staff is not authorized to collect any payments. Payments must be made at least one week in advance. Visa and Mastercard are accepted, as well as cash and checks made payable to the City of Newport. 6 Specialty Camps Dance Camp Run in conjunction with Creatively Dunn Participants will learn several dances and techniques during the week and will perform a show for parents, families and friends at the end of the week. July 23rd 27th Girls and boys entering grades 1-8 9:00 am noon Before and after care available $50 per child Thompson Middle School Theater Camp Run in conjunction with Creatively Dunn Theater Camp will provide participants with a fundamental appreciation for the performing arts. Participants will have hands on opportunities to learn the craft and skill that go into producing and performing in front of a live audience! July 16th 20th Girls and boys entering grades 3-8 9:00 am noon Before and after care available $50 per child Thompson Middle School Red Hot Robots Run in conjunction with Mad Science Spend the week building your very own robot, along the way learning about circuits, sensors and laws of robotics. 8 Hands-On Electronics Run in conjunction with Circuit Lab Tinker with electronics while learning the basics of computer programming. Experiment with the fundamentals of electronics and circuitry, and step up to design their own interactive and programmable devices. July 9 13 Boys and girls entering grades 3-5 9:00 noon Cost: $145 per child Before and after care available Creative Computing Run in conjunction with Circuit Lab Get connected as we explore not just how to use computers, but how to make computers work for you. We will use the latest tools to design hands-on projects ranging from LED light shows to touchless musical instruments to wearable computers. July 9 13 Boys and girls entering grades 6-8 1:00-4:00 Before and after care available Cost: $145 per child Circuit Makers 101 Run in conjunction with Circuit Lab In this jr. version of our Hands-On Electronics class, students will gain experience with creating their own electronics; designing custom light-up greeting cards, electric games, mazes, and even musical instruments. Scratch Programming Run in conjunction with Circuit Lab We will use the Scratch programming language to create interactive stories, animations, and even custom computer games! 9 July SOCCER CAMP SPECIALTY CAMP BEFORE AND AFTER CARE All arrangements must be made in advance. Before Care: 8:00-9:00 am $20 per week or $5 per day Parents must drop off children at the Hut by no later than 8:45 am. Children are then transported to the camp location.
