5 Making Connections Making Connections GPS ELAKR6 The student gains meaning from orally presented text. The student c. Asks and answers questions about essential narrative elements (e.g., beginning-middle-end, setting, characters, problems, events, resolution) of a read-aloud text. There is not a GPS for standard ELACCKRI5. CCGPS ELACCKRL1: With prompting and support, ask and answer questions about key details in a text. ELACCKRI5: Identify the front cover, back cover, and title page of a book. 5

6 Making Connections GPS ELAKR3 The student demonstrates the relationship between letters and letter combinations of written words and the sounds of spoken words. The student b. Recognizes and names all uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet. CCGPS ELACCKRF1: Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print. d. Recognize and name all upper- and lowercase letters of the alphabet. Making Connections GPS ELAKW1 The student begins to understand the principles of writing. The student a. Writes or dictates to describe familiar persons, places, objects, or experiences. b. Uses drawings, letters, and phonetically spelled words to create meaning. CCGPS ELACCKW2: Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose informative/explanatory texts in which they name what they are writing about and supply some information about the topic. 6

7 GPS ELAKLSV1 The student uses oral and visual skills to communicate. a. Listens and speaks appropriately with peers and adults. g. Communicates effectively when relating experiences and retelling stories heard. Making Connections CCGPS ELACCKSL1: Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about kindergarten topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups.
