9 Introduction IE MSc Innovation Management The two-year master program Innovation Management (IM) at TU/e Eindhoven conveys scientific theories, tools and techniques to manage and improve innovations both within and across companies. You will learn how to apply the knowledge that you gain in carrying out research in innovation management and in industrial applications. You will also learn ways to analyze the current innovative performance of a company, how to explain it in terms of quality, cost and time, and how to improve this performance by re-engineering innovation processes. 12 Administrative Details of the IE MSc IM Year 1 Year 2 50/ 50% Core courses and electives, i.e., 30 ECTS each: 6 x 5 ECTS core courses focus on main Innovation Management content and methodology Similar share of specialization and free electives, i.e. 30 ECTS International Semester, i.e., ECTS: Minimum of 3 x 5 ECTS free elective courses at a foreign university, or Maximum of 6 x 5 ECTS free elective courses at TU/e. Here is the TOP SIX of technical universities IM master students prefer: Aalto University, Helsinki, Finland, KTH Stockholm, Sweden, NTUST Taiwan, Chalmers University Sweden, UPV, Valencia, Spain, (courses in Spanish and English) ITBA Buenos Aires, (only courses in Spanish). The international semester starts 1 st Quarter of Year 2, and is highly recommended PAGE 28

A number of special courses with a total study load of 30 ECTS: 10 ECTS within the standard 120 ECTS 20 ECTS on top of the standard 120 ECTS Two Honour Tracks are offered: Honours Track in Research (HiR) Honours Track in Design (HiD) Top 10% of the students, only Honours tracks start 3 rd Quarter of Year 1 PAGE 32
34 Honours Track in Research (HiR) HiR consists of special courses with a total load of 30 ECTS: Two mini-research projects to discover two different research fields, in the 1st year (10 ects per project), on top of standard 120 ECTS PhD courses, in 2nd year (10 ects in total, within standard 120 ECTS) Master Thesis Project: Is preceded by the writing of a PhD research proposal (instead of literature study and formulation thesis assignment) Proposal can be used to compete for grants (at e.g. NWO) Master thesis is on first part of the PhD research proposal Additional PhD courses can be followed in 2nd year of master, as part of the electives Top 10% of the students, only The HiR starts 3 rd Quarter of Year 1 PAGE 33

38 Dual-Degree Program IM / IS The basic design choices for this dual-degree master program are: The dual-degree masters program has a minimum of 165 ECTS, and a duration of 2,5-3 years. It is aimed at the top 10% of the students, only. All core courses of both individual master s programs (2 x 30 ECTS) have to be taken. There is 15 ECTS reserved to follow dedicated technical courses / restricted specialization electives (10 for IS; 5 for IM) There is 15 ECTS reserved for an obligatory international experience There is 15 ECTS reserved for additional (international) free electives There is a combined master thesis project of 45 ECTS Top 10% of the students, only The dual-degree program starts 1 st Quarter of Year 1 PAGE 37

41 Certificate Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (CTEM) CTEM: Certificate Technology Entrepreneurship and Management The CTEM program helps you to enlarge your knowledge and improve your practice-based experience in the area of business management and technology entrepreneurship. Can partly be done as part of the MSc IM master program CTEM broad: offers the opportunity to broaden your knowledge in entrepreneurship and management. Next to your technical specializaation (regular study program), CTEM broad will enlarge your knowledge with respect to 25 ECTS business management in general, and new product development in particular. As such, you will be able to operate successfully in a corporate environment. CTEM in depth: offers the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in the area of technology entrepreneurship. In addition, it improves and enlarges your entrepreneurial skills and practice-based experience in new venture development.
