3 What is Blended Learning? Students learn partly through face-to-face interaction with their teacher and partly through online or digital instruction. Students MUST have some control over time, place, path, and/or pace.

5 Why Blended Learning? For Students: Students are more engaged using online content. Students know where they stand at any time getting real-time feedback. Students can control how fast or slow they go through a lesson, which unleashed their learning velocity. Student s experience within their classroom is in a small group, which makes learning more personal, involved, and connected. For Teachers: Teachers plan their lessons targeting each group instead of teaching to the middle. Teachers find gearing their lessons toward small groups to be rewarding because students are engaged. Teachers find it easier to manage their classroom when students are fully engaged.

7 Formats for Blended Learning Lab Model - students are in a lab with the teacher doing virtually the same thing at the same time. Flex Model - students use technology to complete homework. Enriched Virtual Model - students and teachers expand their experiences via technology. Flipped Classroom Model - students prepare ahead for instruction using virtual tools and then spend class doing projects or discussions. Rotation - stations are set up in the classroom that enable the students to rotate between set types of activities.

10 Important steps to keep in mind Start small Use tools that are readily available and that you feel comfortable using. Add one or two tools at a time. You may combine blended learning with other forms of instructional strategies. When finished, think about what needs to be changed and how you could make it better before your next attempt.

12 Google Classroom Google Classroom is the nucleus of classroom management and blended learning. Teachers can assign content to students. Both student and teacher work is organized and easy to find.

13 Screencastify is a screencasting extension for Google Chrome. It allows you to record your screen activity for creating tutorials, etc, and runs entirely in Chrome, so opens the possibility of screencasting up to Chromebook owners. It runs on any computer with the Chrome browser, Chromebooks, and Chromeboxes. Screencastify is an extension, not an app. Once installed, you should see it in the extension gallery on the top of your Chrome window. Screencastify saves to your Google Drive and/or directly to YouTube. Although there is both a free and a paid version, you only need the free one. The paid version allows clipping and >10 minute videos.

14 Using YouTube s video manager you can make changes to videos, download your videos, change info & settings, view distribution stats, and make edits to the start/ending of your video or clip out some of the middle. Using YouTube s video editor you can enhance your videos, swap the audio track, get music from the audio library, add photos, add headers and endings, and more.

16 Padlet Padlet is a free, online "virtual wall" tool where users can express thoughts on topics of their choice. It's like a piece of paper or a bulletin board, but on the Web. It is very versatile and easy to use. There is a web version of the program and a Chrome extension, a Chrome app, and an ipad version. Padlet Chrome app - same as website Padlet Mini (extension) - great for bookmarking websites and collecting information from websites. Wonderful tool when conducting research. 17 Quizizz is a super-fun way to conduct quizzes in your classroom. Great for conducting a quick review, pop quiz or even individual classwork.

18 EdPuzzle is a web app for teachers, trainers, and content publishers to use video as an interactive experience. It allows users to select a video and customize it by editing, cropping, recording audio, and adding questions to make an engaging presentation or lesson. It is a perfect tool for blended and flipped learning and is easy to use.
