1 UK READ&WRITE GOLD LESSON PLAN I. Goal: Students will be able to describe features of Read&Write Gold that will benefit themselves and/or their peers. II. Materials: There are two options for demonstrating the capabilities of Read&Write Gold for students. a. Access to the Internet to demonstrate capabilities of Read&Write Gold using vendor created videos. b. Live demonstration on a computer with Read&Write Gold downloaded and installed, in addition to speakers and a microphone. III. Class Overview: Distribute handout Provide an overview of Read&Write Gold, including the benefits 2 minutes Demonstrate key features of Read&Write Gold providing use scenarios for each feature number of features demonstrated will depend on the length of the lesson Take final questions Ask students to reflect how they might use Read&Write Gold (could be done as a thinkpair-share, if time permits) Emphasize that it is free to all within the UK community and where it can be downloaded; all they need is a microphone and ear buds or a headset Ask students to download the software and experiment with the features. Have them report back what they liked and did not like and how the software could be of academic benefit to themselves and their peers. IV. Overview: About the tool: Read&Write Gold is a discrete, universally designed, and customizable toolbar that integrates reading, writing, studying, and research support tools with common applications such as Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, Adobe Acrobat Reader. Do you need to keep sources straight so that you can properly cite them? The Fact Folder allows you to save web urls; articles, their titles, authors; and even write a little note about what information from the article is important; all in one place. It also can help you identify where images came from to avoid potential copyright violations. Using the colored highlighters can help to code and pull specific content, which also can assist with organization. The Fact Mapper can help you organize your thoughts in a visual way so that you can see how the information fits together, like a web or mind map.

Why not try dictating your paper to the computer? Or, maybe you feel like you just don t know where to start? Why not dictate what you know about the subject, to use as a starting point?
