It has been a very busy term where a lot of learning has taken place. All of the year levels have been involved in excursion/incursions relating to the curriculum and the work in the classrooms reflects a lot of student engagement. Our school Captains and Vice Captains had the opportunity to have two days of leadership training with a number of other primary school leaders. The staff attended a two day conference which focussed on student writing at the end of February. Our school photos were taken this week on Tuesday 21st March. School photos are a great way to reinforce memories of schooldays. On Wednesday 22nd March the Harmony Day activities were a great success. It was wonderful to share Morning Tea with so many parents. We were also able to reflect with students and parents, discussing ways that we can make this celebration of our many cultures even more successful in Next term we will be commencing our School Review. This will give us an opportunity to look at all the different programs and successes of the school and identify any areas for improvement and our direction for the next 4 years. We will be setting up parent forums and other ways we can ensure that parents, students and staff all have the opportunity to provide information to shape our future direction. The Easter Raffle will be drawn on the last day of this term so don t forget to bring back your tickets for the draw. If your child brings a donation of chocolate, we will put a free raffle ticket into the draw. Also, please remember that school finishes early on the last day, so please pick the children up at 2:30pm. The students return to school on Tuesday 18 th April for Term 2. 3 On the last day of this term, Friday 31 st March, the Student Representative Council is inviting all students to wear colours that match the School House they are in; Lonsdale = blue Hawdon = green Thomas = yellow Kirkham = red This fundraising event is to support Mr Van Rooyen. He is going to walk 100km in the holidays in support of Oxfam's charity work in under developed countries. The School Colours will be a visible celebration of the positive work we are supporting. We are asking each student to donate $2.00 by Friday March 24th. This money will go to Oxfam and in thanks for their donation, each student will receive an icy-pole on House Colours Day!

4 AUSSIES OF THE MONTH Congratulations to the following students for being awarded as our Aussies of the Month during this year: FEBRUARY: Ferishta Z. Grade 1C Ferishta is a polite and friendly member of her class. She is kind to other children and will always help with a smile. She respects and looks after her things and has a positive attitude towards her work. MARCH: Izabela M. Grade 2C Izabela is a friendly and enthusiastic student in the grade 2 learning centre. She is caring to both children and adults and always has a big smile. Izabela has an excellent attitude towards her work and always strives to achieve her learning goals. She also dedicates time to help her peers in completing their own tasks. Izabela is an extremely respectful student who is responsible and independent every day EASTER RAFFLE As part of our fundraising we are asking each student to bring along a donation of a Chocolate Easter Egg or a Chocolate Bunny to go towards making up hampers as our Easter raffle prizes. For every donation we will give your child a free raffle ticket to go into the raffle draw. Raffle Tickets will be sent home soon for our families to sell. Tickets are $1.00 each. A book of 10 tickets is $10.00 There will be a variety of Easter Egg Hampers as Prizes for our raffle. The raffle will be drawn on the last day of Term One, Friday 31st March.

5 ANZAC DAY PUBLIC HOLIDAY: TUESDAY 25 TH APRIL STUDENTS DO NOT COME TO SCHOOL ON THIS DAY What is Anzac Day? Anzac Day, 25 April, is one of Australia s most important national occasions. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War. Anzac Day broadly commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders "who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations" and "the contribution and suffering of all those who have served". What does ANZAC stand for? ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. The soldiers in those forces quickly became known as Anzacs, and the pride they took in that name endures to this day. OUR SCHOOL WILL BE SELLING ANZAC BADGES FOR A GOLD COIN DONATION

6 Family Fun Day Last Friday Foundation students and their parents participated in our Family Fun Day. It was a wonderful opportunity for families, teachers and students to interact and further build relationships. We had a range of engaging activities that both families and students enjoyed. The day ended with students enjoying a picnic lunch with their friends and family. Thanks to all the families who attended our Family Fun Day.

7 On 22 nd March, we had our Harmony Day celebrations at our school. It was so wonderful to see our students and parents dressed up in their traditional costumes and enjoying this fun filled day. Harmony day provides a great opportunity for all of us to get together and celebrate the diversity of our community. First, we all had a colourful Harmony Day parade in the morning, followed by a special morning tea arranged for parents and staff. It was an opportunity for us all to spend time talking and listening to each other. After that, all students participated in an Art of Harmony session in their classrooms. It was an enjoyable experience for everyone to see so many happy and excited faces having great time together. I would like to share some of the delightful moments of the day through these photos:

12 This week, some students from 5 & 6 visited our music room for some fun. They played musical statues and the mannequin challenge. You can see by the pictures that they enjoyed themselves. Last year, we received a grant for some new instruments for our kinder/play group. The box is now in use and being enjoyed by this year s playgroup in the learning centre foyer. 15 Holiday Program returns in 2017 AFL Victoria s Holiday Programs are back for the Term 1 School Holidays! Be quick and book your place to enjoy a fun-filled day with AFL club mascots, giveaways and Northern Blues & Northern Knights player appearances! The one-day programs are designed for boys and girls aged between 5-12 and cater for all kids regardless of their ability. Running from 9.00am pm, the programs provide an exciting and safe environment for children to develop their skills and meet new friends along the way. All programs are delivered by Level 1 accredited coaches and builds on the skills of children who have already been introduced to the game and also teaches children with limited to no experience of Australian Football to the skills of the game.
