Dear Parents, Our Year Three and Four students were extremely excited as they boarded the bus this morning, off to see The Wizard of Oz stage production at the Regent Theatre, Melbourne. What a wonderful opportunity and experience for them all! I m sure today will be a very special, enjoyable and memorable day for the students and staff. Thank you to Ms Trotter and Miss Carnes for organising the excursion, and Mrs Cowan and Molly for accompanying our students and class teachers. Enrolments for 2019 Foundations are now open with an advertisement published in the local newspaper and this newsletter. Enrolment packs can be collected from our school office or from the Alexandra Kindergarten. Please call the school or see office staff for any enquiries or to book an enrolment tour available on 18th, 19th and 20th June. Best wishes, Room 4-1/2 Dalton: Harrison We have twelve students competing in the Division Cross Country event tomorrow at Yea, and wish them all the best. Hopefully the sun will shine, at least for the duration of the event. Karen Power Acting Principal Room 5-1/2 Murray / Hill: Lilly Room 6- Foundation Irwin: Asha Room 7- Year 6 Heyes: Hollie Room 8- Year 5 Williams: Caeley We look forward to a return visit by the Royal Flying Doctor Service Mobile Dental Care team, who will be at St Mary s on Friday. The RFDS goal is to help improve the oral health of children by providing access to dental services. Another component to this service is the provision of oral health education for students and teachers which will increase awareness of the importance of oral health and reduce tooth decay. Thank you to Thanh Bui from the RFDS team for providing this service to St Mary s students. Winter is only a couple of sleeps away. As of Friday 1st June it is compulsory for students to wear their winter uniform. Please ensure all clothing is clearly named to allow the return of jumpers to your child. 2 RE, Wellbeing. Religious Education: Sunday was Trinity Sunday. Trinity starts with tri (three) and the Trinity is three in unity - God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. We give thanks to God the Father who made us and all of creation. We give thanks to God the Son, Jesus, who showed us how to live good lives. We give thanks to the Holy Spirit who guides and supports us. Let s open our hearts and minds to the spirit, so we can follow in the footsteps of Jesus by using our God-given gifts to make the world a better place. EARLY NOTICE for Sacrament of Confirmation: Mons. Tony Ireland will confirm candidates on Sunday, October 21 st at 9 am. This applies to Year 5 and 6 students who have been baptised but everyone is welcome to attend. Student Wellbeing: I would like to recommend the KidsMatter website as an excellent resource and have included the link to an article on it relating to Curiosity and Confidence. The following quote highlights how curiosity links with a growth mindset. Children's curiosity drives them to explore their surroundings and try new things. From their repeated experiences of seeing their actions affect their world and the people in it, children begin to see themselves as capable and having control. This helps children to feel good about themselves and builds their self-confidence. Please check out this site. School Photos We have had contact from School Pix and our school photos are due to arrive during week 8 or 9. They will be sent home with students once they arrive. School Fees A reminder to parents not on a payment plan that the 1st instalment of school fees ($410) was due to be paid on the 27th April. It would be appreciated if parents could make this payment before the end of term to assist with the running of the financial side of the school. We would also like the extra activities i.e. camps, excursions etc. paid prior to the event taking place. If parents are having difficulties in meeting their financial obligations to the school please see the office to arrange a payment plan. If you are able to assist please notify the office. Reminder: you must have a Working With Children Check and have completed the appropriate volunteer application from the office. If we do not have sufficient helpers by 2:30pm Friday, tuckshop will be cancelled for the following week.
