1 November 7, 2018 Dear Families, We experienced a very busy week end, between last Friday and Sunday. Grandparents Day on Friday afternoon was an amazing experience for the grandparents, grandfriends, and students. I do not know which generation had more fun, but suffice it to say, a great afternoon was had by all! Thank you to the hardworking, organized team that oversaw all details for the event, under the direction of Carolyn Hietsch. The afternoon was a huge success! Some of the same volunteers returned Sunday for Brunch and/or Open House. The success of the brunch is credited to our great crew, and the many volunteers who assisted. Our first-ever November Open House, overseen by Mary Pat St. Jean, was well-attended, indicating a positive outlook for our enrollment. One of the long-time members of our staff, Ms. Sue Timper, has decided to retire. Sue prepared meals and served the students in our cafeteria for thirteen years. Sidelined with some health concerns this year, Sue is on the mend. However, her recovery period has provided time to contemplate the next chapter in her life, and she has decided to retire. We are very grateful for the thirteen years Sue devoted to our students and we all say, Thank You! The After Care program is experiencing increases in attendance. We are in need of some additional help, and are looking for substitutes to fill in periodically. 2 November 7, 2018 Dear Parents, Thanksgiving is a time to thank God for all the gifts that He has given to each one of us. Just as Christ sat at the Last Supper surrounded by his family of apostles, we sit with our families and share a special Thanksgiving meal. As part of the St. Pius X Parish Family, the school community will come together to provide Thanksgiving meals for families in need of assistance. The turkeys will be donated and the students are asked to contribute the remaining ingredients to the baskets. PreK - grade 4 students have received a sheet from their teacher with an assigned item. Middle School students received their assigned item at their House Meeting. This Thanksgiving donation is completely voluntary. If you choose to be a part of it, please donate the assigned item. By assigning a specific food, we are insuring that the baskets contain a true Thanksgiving meal. Please send perishable items to class on Wednesday, November 14th. All other items may be sent in on Tuesday, November 13 th. We will deliver the completed boxes to The Yarmouth Food Pantry on Wednesday, November 14th. Thank you, in advance, for your donations. 3 November 7, 2018 NO SCHOOL School will NOT be in session on Monday, November 12 th in observance of Veterans Day. EARLY DISMISSAL Students will be dismissed at 11:30 on Friday, November 9th for a Staff Professional Day - NEASC Self-Study. The Extended Day Program will be available on this day and lunch will be served to students, attending after care, after dismissal. THANKSGIVING FEAST A reminder that Thursday, November 15 th, the students will be enjoying a turkey dinner with all the trimmings! The price of the meal is the student s meal ticket or $3.00. EARLY DISMISSAL Tuesday, November 20th - Students will be dismissed at 11:30am. The Extended Day Program will NOT be available on Tuesday, November 20th. There will be no interruption in bus service. Buses will depart the school at 11:30. THANKSGIVING RECESS School will NOT be in session on Wednesday, November 21st, Thursday, November 22nd, and Friday, November 23rd.

4 UNIFORM REMINDER Please note that effective Monday, November 26 th, students will be able to wear the Winter Uniform. The listing of the Winter Uniform can be found below. The polo shirt/gym shirt must be worn as part of the Physical Education uniform. A white turtle neck may be worn under the polo shirt/gym shirt as part of the gym uniform. As we are now into the Winter months, the windpant, sweatpant, or gympant must be worn over the mesh shorts during classroom time. During Physical Education class, the windpant, sweatpant, or gympant may be removed. As Summer uniforms are long gone so are shorts on dress down days! Please note that to keep consistency in our dress code, all uniform purchases must be made through the uniform company and not from other vendors including department stores with the exception of the navy sweatpant. 7 Dear SPXS students, The SPXS basketball regular season will begin after three evaluation days on November 13th,14th, and 15th. Any student in Grades 5-8 interested in joining one of the basketball teams should attend the evaluation days. Boys Basketball Evaluation Days: November 13th, 14th, and 15th: 2:30-4pm in the SPXS gym Girls Basketball Evaluation Days: November 13th, 14th, and 15th: 4-5:30pm in the SPXS gym After the evaluation process is complete, each individual player will receive an ed invitation to play for either the Senior or Junior basketball teams. Each student will have until November 26, 2018 to accept the invitation. All medical and registration forms including player fee, must be submitted to the school office by November 26th SPXS Junior Teams will practice and play games on Tuesday and Thursday (boys) and Wednesday and Thursday (girls). Times to be determined Senior Teams, both girls and boys, will practice and play games on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Times to be determined. Practice and game times will be scheduled according to the availability of the team coaches. Any 4th grade students who would like to sign up for the Junior teams, please Mr. Corsi. All 4th grade students will be placed on the Junior teams and begin their season, November 27th (boys) and November 28th (girls). The Middle school basketball program will be divided into two or three teams (determined by the number of participants). One Boys and one Girls Senior Team and one or two Boys Junior and one or two Girls Junior Teams. All 8th graders who sign up to play SPXS basketball will participate on the Senior Team. Team size will be determined by appropriate player placement. All players will be evaluated and placed on one of the Middle School teams. No student will be denied a roster spot. 8 SPXS Junior Basketball Team: Main goal: To provide a fun, developmental basketball program that includes quality instruction with an emphasis on fundamentals, teamwork, rules of the game, and skill development. Players on the Junior Team will play in every game and receive equal playing time. Hustle, positive attitude, and attention to being a team player will be expected from all players. Any behavior detrimental to the team and interferes with the directions/expectations of the coach, will affect playing time and jeopardize team status. Practice/Games: hours per week SPXS Senior Basketball Team: Main goal: To focus on the competitive elements of basketball. Success will be measured by personal skill development and team cohesiveness with team members striving to win. All team members will participate in every game, with playing time dictated by the coach. Hustle, positive attitude, and attention to being a team player will be expected from all players. Any behavior detrimental to the team and interferes with the directions/expectations of the coach, will affect playing time and jeopardize team status. Practice/Games: hours per week Basketball Program Overview: Junior team players main goal will be to develop their basketball skills and enjoyment of the fundamental learning of basketball. The Junior team/teams will play intrasquad games within the SPXS basketball program, as well as a 4-6 game interscholastic games against other Middle schools. Players excelling throughout the season showcasing skills, leadership, and sportsmanship may warrant dressing for a Senior Team game. The Junior Team basketball season will run Nov. 27, Feb. 14, Senior Team players participate in the Cape Cod Super Six Athletic Conference, established in The Senior Team will play 8 interscholastic CCSS conference games, in addition to 2-4 non-conference games. The Senior Team basketball season begins Nov. 27, 2018 and concludes with the 2019 Cape Cod Super Six Basketball Tournament in late February.

10 Dress Down on Friday November 16th to support Create the Good DY Schools for a $2 donation! Founded in 2010, Create the Good DY Schools has been providing less fortunate families within the DY School District with complete holiday meals for the Thanksgiving holiday. From turkey to pie and everything in between, Create the Good is helping to create memories for families who most likely would not be able to do so without our support. In 2017 Create the Good provided 126 families with a complete Thanksgiving dinner!! Each year the need is rising. Dress down on November 16th for a $2 donation to help us fulfill this years need!!
