As the Headteacher, appointed in September 2014, I have led the school through a period of rapid transformation. With an increasingly strong focus on the core business of teaching and learning, combined with a drive to raise achievement at all levels, there is now a culture in the school which all students. The school population consists of students from a broad range of abilities and backgrounds and although predominantly Christian, different faiths. The 850 students come from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds and their abilities are across the full spectrum. Over 6.5% of our students have Special Educational Needs and about 18% have English as a second or other language. Some 14.2% of our students qualify for free school meals. The outstanding behaviour of our students, well-maintained brand new site and excellent pastoral care results in many visitors commenting on the strong sense of a real family atmosphere existing within the school. Staff morale is high, the atmosphere in the school is very positive and students work and behaviour in and around school reflects this. We have strong partnerships with many external organisations and agencies including other secondary and primary schools. We are privileged in Liverpool to be supported by School Improvement Liverpool (SIL) formally Liverpool LA and appreciate the strong collaborative opportunities that this brings. We have a very strong and supportive Governing Body who take an active part in the life of the school attending student council, linking with curriculum areas and being fully involved in moving the school on in its journey of school improvement. About the Role In partnership with the Headteacher, the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) plays a vital role in setting the strategic direction for the whole school and holding staff and students to account for standards. From September 2018 the SLT will consist of the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Business Manager, 3 Assistant Headteachers and 3 Associate Assistant Headteachers. Although each member of SLT has agreed priorities that relate to specific areas of school improvement, it is accepted that responsibilities are shared and strategic issues can be dealt with on a collaborative basis. Members of the SLT are also expected to take assemblies, support extracurricular activities and represent school, as required, in the wider community. The new member of the team will be expected to adopt the same approach.

3 The successful candidate is likely to teach a 40% timetable across a two-weekly cycle. The teaching subject you offer is critical; you will be an outstanding classroom practitioner of proven ability who enjoys teaching and who will lead a strong Maths department to deliver outstanding teaching and learning for all students. 5 MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT Mathematics has huge importance both as a subject and in everyday life. All members of the department are subject specialists and are passionate about mathematics. We constantly strive to instil our passion for the subject into our students, giving them the skills they need to succeed in the wider world. All of our mathematics lessons have problem solving and mastery at their core, where by all students are encouraged to explain their reasoning and tackle thought provoking problems from everyday life. All of our schemes of learning give students the opportunity to master mathematical topics at the right pace, yet at the same time stretch and challenge their capabilities. Problem solving is at the heart of every scheme of learning. It is vital that all students are able to recognise how mathematics is embedded in all aspects of everyday life and cope with such problems. Thus, all units of work our students cover will demonstrate links to real life problems, allowing them to develop their skills regularly. We aim to promote a love of learning mathematics and an eagerness to want to improve. Through our maths lessons we aim to provide pupils with the skills, knowledge and understanding for them to participate successfully in the wider world. We have very high expectations of our pupils and as a result, they come to lessons eager and ready to learn. Years 7 and 8 follow the Edexcel Pearson Maths Progress scheme of learning and Years 9, 10 and 11 are completing the Edexcel 1MA1 GCSE course. Years 7 and 8 are spilt into five ability sets and Years 9, 10 and 11 are split into six ability sets. Year 12 are completing the Edexcel two year A level course and Year 13 are completing the Edexcel A2 maths course with a small group also completing A2 Further Maths. We have many intervention, support and enrichment opportunities available for all pupils and actively participate in UK Maths Challenges, NSPCC Number Day, World Maths Day, Pi Day and the Liverpool Counts Quality Mark. The department is made up of 7 full-time teachers (including the subject leader, second in department, and numeracy coordinator), 2 part-time teachers and a HLTA.
