2 2018 Wodonga Library- () Welcome to Wodonga Library. We are pleased to provide educational and community engagement programs to assist educators plan free excursions. All programs are flexible in design and can be tailored to fit curriculum links, learning and year levels. Students are able to enjoy a wide range of learning programs and resources, which promote engagement, creativity and hands-on learning experiences. Library guided tour All year levels Approx. 1hour 4x20min rotations for groups of up to 20 students Membership Dewey Decimal System eresources Library orientation Interactive Storytime (a theme can be tailored to group needs) Year F, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Approx. 45min- rotation of students using the interactive floor This program can run in conjunction with a library tour Graphic novels and comic workshop Year 3+ Approx. 1 hour for a maximum of 30 students STEM learning resources Years 5+ Approx. 1 2 hours, student numbers vary depending on equipment required Self-guided tours All year levels Self-guided tours can be booked Monday Friday with the Library opening from 10am Research skills Year 7 and 8 5 formal lessons at school plus 1 visit to library Includes teacher lesson plans and research student activity booklet History 2 Years F, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Available mid 2018

3 Students and educators are always welcome to enjoy a free Wodonga Library membership that allows them to borrow from more than 30,000 items in our various collections: Books fiction and non-fiction books that will appeal to all ages and interests. DVDs including films in various genres, television series and documentaries for all ages Magazines on everything from fashion, lifestyle, sport and cooking to children s and teen magazines. Digital magazines are also available via our website. Audio books on CDs for all ages including fiction and some nonfiction ebooks and eaudio for loan via Bolinda Digital. You can also borrow ebooks when the library is closed via an online collection or through the Bolinda App BorrowBox. They return themselves automatically and don t incur overdue fees Local history items that you can use in the library (not for loan). Ask our staff for access to the Local History Room Australian collection including older Australian books of historical and cultural interest. As many are fragile, they are kept in the Local History Room so ask our staff for access. They are flagged as Australiana on the catalogue and are available for loan. Free films for Library members! Beamafilm is Australia s premium movie streaming channel for true stories and independent voices. Stream over 400 of your favourite award-winning documentaries, independent features and festival favourites that have been selected to delight, inspire and entertain you. Many of the films featured can only be found on Beamafilm. Watch Bemafilm movies anytime, anywhere and on any internet connected device such as phones; tablets; Macs/PC s and TV s via Chromecast, AppleTV or HDMI. 5 Library guided tour: All year levels Incorporate library skills with exploring the local community library. Students will be split into groups of a maximum of 20 and work through rotations with different library staff to learn about available resources and library skills. The tour will focus on library membership, eresources and the Dewey Decimal System. The program is flexible and can be tailored to include an educational activity such as STEM learning or an interactive Storytime. A behind the scenes tour of The Cube Wodonga or an art activity in the adjacent Arts Space Wodonga can also be incorporated into the tour on request. Key objectives Students will develop library-related skills as well as become familiar with local community library. Cross curricular opportunities and General Capabilities English The Humanities ICT Critical and Creative Thinking eresources The library has a large range of free downloadable resources including ebooks, audio books and magazines. Students will learn how to access these resources. A great way to ensure daily reading is being achieved. 5

6 2018 Interactive Storytime: Grades F-6 Let students discover contemporary storytelling through drama and technology as the story comes alive right here in the library. The library has an interactive floor that is able to be programmed using a variety of pictures and themes. Backgrounds can be static pictures with interactive components or maps and videos. Discuss your needs with library staff before your visit to tailor students learning to a particular theme, learning area or children s book. Key objectives Student will develop creative-thinking, literacy and language skills as they dramatise and extend the story. Suggested themes and topics Bugs, Beach, Dinosaurs, Farms Australia history themes (maps and videos) Gold rush Indigenous studies Children s books including Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Where The Wild Things Are. 7 Graphic Novels: Grades 3-10 Wodonga Library has a large range of graphic novels that can be explored as a group. These are a fun way to learn historical knowledge or specific genre skills. Students will have the chance to create their own comic and complete follow up activities at school. Students will explore different styles of graphic novels in the library s collection before creating their own becoming authors and illustrators during a mini literacy workshop. Key objectives Students will develop critical skills required to produce and illustrate a comic book on a particular topic. 8 2018 STEM Learning: Grades 5-10 Wodonga Library has a range of STEM learning resources for classes to use during a library program. These help students link science and technology goals from the curriculum and are a great resource to introduce STEM learning into your school environment. 9 Research Skills: Year 7 and 8 This series of 6 lessons is designed for teachers to use both in class and during a visit to Wodonga Library. Throughout the lessons students will develop and begin to critically analyse research techniques including finding the best sources of accurate information and learning to authenticate it. They will learn how to research using a range of resources, in particular non-fiction books by searching the catalogue and understanding the Dewey Decimal Classification System.
