1 Volume 14, Issue 6, January 2017 Superintendent s Message Faculty and Staff, As we have now started the spring semester, it is important that we all re-focus ourselves on the importance of student success and our roles in the process. We all must understand that each of us plays an extremely important role in ensuring student success. On opening day, I referred to everyone s importance as Vision Critical. Your importance is recognized and valued. Our goal of becoming a District of Distinction can only be tackled by understanding the importance of a laser-focus and our own individual importance in the district s journey. No matter what your role is your success in your role determines the success of our students and ultimately our success as a district. Every day, every student in the district needs for us to bring our A game to work. Furthermore, they need our support. Every member of the faculty and staff must have a laser focus on student success. We have to believe in our power and ability to help students experience success. Additionally, we must inspire students to aspire to be great which requires that we exhibit positivity and have a growth mindset every day. It is extremely important that students feel and see our support. Danny Thomas, a famous actor and comedian said, Success has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself. It s what you do for others. This is so true. Not only do we have a responsibility to ensure all students experience success, we have a moral calling to do so. We work in the best profession in the world no matter your role in the district. We are all teachers in some form and have a calling to make sure that we are always there to support students in their journey to success. Become an advocate for students, offer your time, become a coach or mentor to a group of students, or just simply make time to listen to them. We must remember that for many of our students we are the only adults in their lives. We need to utilize our time with them to help them succeed. We have a remarkable staff who cares about students. This semester, we must really let it show. Tell students how proud of them you are and how much you care about their success and how you are willing to do whatever it takes to help them accomplish their goals. Words of encouragement can go a long way in helping students succeed, coupled with having a positive relationship with your students. As we approach the end of the current accountability model, we need to push the limit and go out on top this school year. We must finish this semester strong so that not only do students succeed, we also start the school year on a positive, upward trajectory. This year, our success as a district will ultimately come down to the success of each individual student. We must take the time to meet the needs of the individual student and ensure that they are prepared for the next level. Remain focused on student success, pushing the boundaries and removing limits to student success. Go the extra mile this semester for students. If we all focus on student success, we succeed as a district. I cannot stress this enough that everyone is #VisionCritcal. Thank you for what you do for our students each day. Push the limits! 4 The kindergarten classes at FES have been busy studying careers and community helpers. Through the use of the district grant, the classes have been able to make several trips within the community. The students were able to see how some companies work behind the scenes, what skills that we are already working on in kindergarten that apply to the job and any other necessary training that the job takes. Thank you to all the area businesses that we have been able to visit (EMS Dept., Flemingsburg Fire Dept., Fleming County Library, Flemingsburg Post Office, and Dairy Queen).

6 The Fleming County Public Library promoted a "Drop your Drawers" campaign for the months of November through December. In lieu of paying fines for past due books, patrons were asked to bring in new underwear. This catchy campaign caught the attention of our entire community. There were many individuals, organizations and church groups who also brought in the much needed donations to help the cause. Our local library collected an astounding 639 pairs of new underwear for the local FRYSC's!

Congratulations to Amanda Fugate on the birth of her baby boy. Beau Jennings Fugate was born on January 5th and weighed in at 7 lbs. 3 oz. and was 20 inches long.
