MAKING A DIFFERENCE Summer Greetings from Your National President This year has flown by and time is rapidly approaching for our 107 th National Convention in West Des Moines, Iowa. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on National Council and the Board of Trustees. I am indebted to the members of our organization for allowing me the opportunity of serving our wonderful sorority. We have decided that we will be using the voting cards again this year for legislation. This will save our knees. There will be no updown, up-down for each vote! Also, Motion Forms will be available at the front of the meeting room daily. If you plan on making a motion, please get your Motion Form early and have it filled out. If you haven t had a chance to look at our website, please take the time to do so, Eileen Williams has been doing a great job keeping forms updated on the site and putting additional information on it including the registration forms for National Convention and the Tour information. Be sure to look at the Province Convention Tab to see where and when the Province Conventions will be in the fall. Eileen will continue to add more information to the website and also to our Facebook Page. I have had an amazing group of National Officers working with me this year. They have made my job easier because they do their job so well. Always remember that the National Officers are here for you. If you have a question or concern, please be sure to contact one of us. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at National Convention in W. Des Moines, Iowa. Your hostess chapters have been planning a wonderful week, come and make memories with all your Delta Sisters! Delta Love, Bev Edwards National President Making a Difference Our prayers for others flow more easily than those for ourselves. This shows we are made to live by charity. ~C.S. Lewis 4

National Secretary of Philanthropy The office of National Secretary of Philanthropy is so rewarding and fun. I have enjoyed learning about all the Philanthropy that you all are doing across our country. It is amazing how you have all touched so many lives and helped so many organizations. The Sorority s National Philanthropy Project is NFED and we have supported the Foundation with over $169, since The total money spent on Educational Grants since 1959 is over $646, This year s National Yearly Project went to This Able Veteran, submitted by Omicron Alpha, Woodlawn, IL and was awarded over $5, We are Making a Difference. National Convention is getting closer. I hope to see you all in West Des Moines, IA. This year s theme is Denim to Diamonds and I m sure will be lots of fun. I am looking forward to seeing all my friends and meeting new ones. Don t forget to make your reservations soon. Delta Love, Linda Dressen National Secretary of Philanthropy National Chairman, Board of Trustees Dear Ladies of Delta Theta Tau, Happy Spring my Delta Sisters! This year s goal of National Council and The Board of Trustees was to strive to move forward into the new millennium. Of course it is 2015 and the new millennium started 15 years ago! While attending my first convention, I heard that current year s theme from our then President, Terri Shannon. Be the Change. That phrase has stuck with me to this day. She, at that time, was introducing us to the concept that things needed to change in Delta Theta Tau and we would need to embrace new ideas in order to remain a strong organization of amazing women. I encourage our members to look at the legislation packet your chapters received in May and prepare your thoughts and questions in advance of convention. Please come to convention prepared to help Delta Theta Tau continue to be the best that is in womanhood. Please take the time to look at your chapter from an outside perspective. This is not easy. We know Delta Theta Tau. But potential and even new members do not. Please look at how you are perceived by those who do not know us and do your best to explain who we are. New brochures are available to you at no charge (except postage) from the National Secretary. I encourage you to use them. If you see a need to change how outsiders perceive your chapter, please do not dismiss it as this is the way we have always done it. It is evident that we are working towards a new reality. The economy cannot always be the blame. Our 112 year old organization has survived through wars, the great depression, and several recessions. We survived through all these obstacles. (Probably because we are women.) But because we are women, we can do it again. We need to work toward the common goal together. Referring to: this is the way we have always done it. It is not a reason, it is an excuse. We need to eliminate this phrase from our vocabulary. Maybe consider let s look if this will work for us in today s world. Change requires work and we are the hardest working bunch of ladies I have ever met. We juggle so many titles in our everyday life and yet still find time to help others. We are awesome. Please keep an open mind to change, weight the options-pro and con- to new ideas, and help us all move straight forward and unafraid. Delta Love, Bonnie B. Wells Chairman, Board of Trustees 5

National Philanthropy Committee The National Philanthropy Committee met January 24, 2015 at the Cambria Suites in Plainfield, IN. Those in attendance were: National President, Bev Edwards via ; Linda Dressen, National Secretary of Philanthropy; Junior Cruea, Chairman; Michelle Bell, Secretary and Cathy Stanford, Third Member. Three applications for graduate level educational grants were submitted and met the December 10 th deadline. Chairman, Junior Cruea scanned and ed the applications to the other committee members for their review prior to the meeting. Of the three applications, two were new applications and one was a renewal request. At the 2014 National Convention the assembly voted to expend $5,000 for educational grants. With the donations ($340.59) that were made to the fund and an unclaimed grant from last year in the amount of $2, the Philanthropy Committee was able to award a total of $7, to the three applicants. The convention delegation also voted to donate $5,000 to the National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias (NFED). In 1997, Delta Theta Tau adopted NFED as our national project. We annually donate $5,000. Each year progress has been made in research. Last year we were informed of a possible CURE on the horizon. Three 501C -3 organizations were nominated by chapters to be considered for the National Yearly Project. Each organization will be presented at the business meeting at National Convention. The selection will be made by the voting members on Saturday, July 11 th. Chapter delegates, don t forget to bring a news article for the National Philanthropy Committee s bulletin board. We want everyone to see how we are Making A Difference in our communities. Cathy Stanford, Third Member National Philanthropy Member The National Philanthropy Committee met in January 2015 at Plainfield, IN. Present were, left to right: Linda Dressen, National Secretary of Philanthropy, Junior Cruea, Chairman, Michelle Bell, Secretary and Cathy Stanford, Third Member. Director of Expansion & Growth Spring has finally sprung in Southern Indiana. The cold winds of winter are gone. Our favorite indoor sport of Basketball has crowned a new Champion. It is time to break out those bright colors and our much loved Flip-flops. work, but the reward is huge! Many Delt chapters have started their spring projects for philanthropy. I have seen notices on Facebook for plant sales and spring luncheons. Our chapters are very good at using social media to get the word out for Delta Theta Tau. It is working also. I have had news from chapters getting new sisters that maybe haven t had a new sister in a long time. Some are growing by leaps and bounds. This is a nice trend for Delta Theta Tau! Please keep posting your events to let your communities know that you are a viable organization and are looking to expand your membership. It takes time and hard I hope to see everyone at National Convention in Des Moines. I am excited for my first convention on the podium looking out to everyone s smiling faces. Please take time to review candidates for office and proposed legislation. If you have a candidate for initiation at convention, please let me know as soon as possible! Can t wait to see all Delta Theta Tau blinged out in Denim to Diamonds at Des Moines! Delta Love Mary Beth Director of Expansion & Growth 6

Delta Home Program Directorate WHAT THE DELTA HOME PROGRAM DOES The Delta Home Program is Making a Difference in the lives of our sisters who need extra help with finances. The DHP makes a difference by sharing our love, concern, and care through providing financial help with our Delta Sisters expenses. This assistance is available to active, associate, alumnae and members at large sisters who are 60 years or older, have been a member at least 7 years, have a need greater than income, and have paid Delta Home dues of $2.00/year or $100 in lieu of the annual payments. Delta sisters have told us about the difference this help has made in their lives. Thank you so much for the birthday card and check. You can t imagine what this means to me. I don t know what I would do without all of the sorority s help, said one Delta. Another sister expressed her thanks in this way: I am so thankful for the financial support from the Delta Home Fund, and the cards that I received are very thoughtful. Many thanks for my Christmas gift. I send my best regards to Delta Theta Tau for making my life easier due to their generosity, stated a recipient. A sister wrote, Dear Director, I m thinking of how really dear you have been. You are always so concerned with my problems and I love to hear your voice a voice I ll always remember when I hear it. I ll not forget you. Still other recipients had these words to say: Thank you for the money for my personal needs. I am using some to attend my Province Convention. Thanks for another year of financial help. I used the money to have my hair shampooed and cut. Please thank the Sorority for me. I would not be able to make things meet without the monetary help. Your help has meant so much for all that you give and share with me. My heart wants to say Thank You for all the blessings it has felt because of the Delta Home Program. Many thanks for all you ve done. The DHP does make a difference and it can make a difference in someone s life. If you are a sister or know of a sister who needs extra help, then contact Carol Lewis, Delta Home Program Directorate President, and request an application. 22 One Hundred Years Ago Excerpt from The Diamond Years On the very first day of a brand new year, 1915, one of the sorority s greatest chapters, Xi, was installed at Portland, Indiana, by Union City s Lambda chapter. Presiding was Cora Voisinet (Dwyer), and one of the charter members was Ruth Whipple (Badders McKinley). There was a banquet and dance honoring the 11 charter members, and the Deltas from Union City stayed overnight. Sharlette Cole, a Portland Delta, reports, I recently spent a very enjoyable afternoon with Ruth Pope Davidson. Ruth remembered well the night she was initiated on January 24, 1916, and said the rough stuff was first before the formal service. During the rough stuff they were required to kiss the Greek god of Delta Theta Tau, and at a later date they had to kiss a piece of liver. Look at the clothes the Deltas were wearing when they assembled for that 1915 convention in Liberty, Indiana, June 17, where 12 chapters sent delegates. Middy blouses with braid, worn with black pleated skirts and big black scarves tied into bows were the fashions of the day. Delegates still were housed in the homes of the hostesses, and the social functions included a tea, a banquet and a dance. Thirty delegates were present for this convention and it was then the decision was made by the assembly to incorporate Delta Theta Tau and make it a national organization, so an Continued on page 40 Delta Province Chairman for 2015 My name is Michele Camarillo-Kipp. As a member of the Zeta Epsilon Chapter in Ventura, California, I currently serve as Chapter Vice President and Pledge Supervisor. I was privileged to serve as 2013 Delta Province Convention Secretary. Since retiring in 2010, I have enjoyed doing all those things I never really had time to do those things you don t get paid to do, but are so much more rewarding. In addition to my service for Delta Theta Tau Sorority, I am a member of the Lady Knights, associated with the Knights of Columbus where my husband is a current member and a Past Grand Knight. I am also the coordinator for our parish s Adult Bible Study program and I teach Religious Education classes to 4 th, 5 th, 6 th and 7 th graders. I ve enjoyed my volunteer work with the kids so much that I am currently attending classes in pursuit of my Catechist Certification in Elementary Education. As if that weren t enough, I also spend a couple of days a week with the grandkids, carpooling them to and from school, providing after-school care, and occasionally chaperoning field trips. I love those field trips! In my spare time, I practice yoga and meditation keeping it all in balance. This year, I ve been elected as 2015 Delta Province Chairmen. I m so proud to serve all of my Delta Sisters and can t wait to see everyone at our Delta s Midway Country Fair in Paso Robles, California on November 6, 7, and 8, 2015, hosted by Theta Iota. 27 Bloomington, IN - Zeta Zeta Chapter sisters worked hard for our Fashionista Fiesta April 18 th. This is one of three projects we have during the year. This event includes Style Show, Luncheon and Silent Auction. Other information for summer: Our Style Show/luncheon April 18 th is always a great success and money making projects. We will be looking forward to our National Convention held in Des Moines, Iowa, when we come back we will be getting ready for our 2 nd money making project: Monroe County Fair, our Dairy Bar is a wonderful booth for Sloppy Joes, grilled cheese, ice cream, shakes and I could go on and on. This project is for a week. Our 3 rd project is October Garage Sale, a one day event. Linda Stipp and myself (Janet) co-chair this project again. We have become a small chapter but we are a mighty group working together to help our community. I know with 60 years experience in Zeta. Janet Brazil, IN - Alpha Omega Kim Emmert-O Dell and her team of officers for 2014/2015 have done an outstanding job. At our April meeting we elected new officers for and they were installed at our May meeting. On April 18, we had our Taste Treat Luncheon at McKinley Hill Church, which is a new location for this event. Each Alpha Omega member makes the equivalent of three 9 x13 dishes of a chosen recipe. We limit our ticket sales to 200. Those who come have the chance to have a taste (spoonful) of 20+ different dishes. The cost includes a book with the recipes for the dishes they are sampling. On April 30, the trucks from the supplier brought in hanging baskets and pots of geraniums to the pavilion at our local park. After much sorting and counting, the flowers were ready for Alpha Omega members to pick up and deliver throughout the county and surrounding area. This is one of our largest fundraisers of the year and we re always glad when the last basket or pot is delivered. Our profits help fund worthwhile community agencies and projects throughout the year. We also regularly assist the Clay County Emergency Food Pantry, House of Hope, Clay County Humane Society, St. Vincent Clay Hospital ER, CRADLES (Cultivating Responsible Adults by Developing Leadership, Education and Self-Sufficiency, and the Serving on the Streets (SOS) ministry. Diane Braden Brookville, OH - Kappa Xi It's been a busy, but exciting 2014/2015 term for our present outgoing officers that have been led by outgoing Chapter President-Jean Criffield. Jeanie did an outstanding job of keeping our twice monthly meetings moving along so that our business could be taken care of and some social time could still be enjoyed by our Kappa Xi sisters. One big project that was taken on during Jeanie's presidency was a first time 'Theme Basket Bingo' in October, with all prizes being different themed gift baskets. It was a huge success! Kappa Xi Chapter says thanks to all of our outgoing officers and kudos for all their hard work! By the time this Summer issue of the GRIT reaches your mailboxes, Kappa Xi Chapters 'Delta Showboat' presentation, " From Rags to Riches" will be a thing of the past. The first half of the musical program was a blend of Hee Haw and Gospel selections and the second half was good old Show tune selections. The program was held Friday, April 24th, and Saturday, April 25th at our local high school auditorium at 7:30PM. There were many, many special acts in the show and all done by Brookville area folks with good old talent! The Showboat Chorus as always sang many selections and had the audience tapping their toes and singing along. This annual project has been very beneficial for our philanthropy fund and helped us with finishing out our fiscal year of spending for philanthropy projects, in the name of Delta Theta Tau. Are you ready for the Summer sisters? We gals of Kappa Xi are and we are hoping to see many of you at National Convention, in West Des Moines, Iowa...where we'll be sporting our "Denim and Diamonds"! Have a safe summer sisters...with family and friends! Delta Love, Vicki Mills Clinton, IN - Beta Sigma As we look forward to warmer weather we also look forward to initiating more members into our chapter. We sent several invitations and voted on prospective candidates in March. We hosted a meet and greet event to introduce ourselves and answer questions about our chapter. Our Philanthropy committee has been working on selecting the winner of the Peg Helms Scholarship which is a yearly award given to an outstanding High school senior. Two of our members helped to select the participants in Girls State since we co-sponsor that award with other local organizations. Our chapter was especially proud to receive three 27

awards at Province for chapter volunteer hours, per capita volunteer hours and membership growth. We will host a fundraiser in May. This will be an Italian dinner held at a restaurant owned by one of our members. The proceeds will be split between the local food pantry and the humane shelter. We made donations to the Post Prom committee and the art shows sponsored by the local schools. A growing concern among members has been the counting of volunteer hours-what is allowed and what is not. A guideline of acceptable and non-acceptable hours was given to each member so that the confusion could be resolved. Kinnett. Aletha passed away on February 1, She joined Epsilon Omega in 1962 and was a member for 50 years when in 2012 she moved to MAL status. She will be greatly missed. This spring finds us wrapping up our Nut Sales. In May we will have our Vera Bradley Spring Raffle and in June our annual participation in the Crawfordsville Strawberry Festival. As stated above, this has been a busy year. But this has also been a good year of sisters working together to make the Epsilon Omega Chapter an outstanding member of this community. Pat Hooper We will be voting on the winner of the Peg Helms Outstanding Delt Award to be presented at our Anniversary Dinner during the month of June. Anyone, except the president, is eligible for this award and is based on commitment and service to the chapter Our slate of officers was presented at the April meeting and was unanimously accepted. We have a good group of women who will lead us with integrity and wisdom in the coming months. We look forward to working together to achieve our goals-more philanthropy and more volunteering. With Delta Love, Mary Ann Maher Crawfordsville, IN - Epsilon Omega This has been another busy year for Epsilon Omega. We started off the fall with our annual picnic held this year at an Amish farm. It was a lovely way to start our year with 19 members present and two visitors. The fall season found us looking at our Ways and Means projects for the coming year. It was decided once again that our major projects would be the Nut Sales and the Strawberry Festival. Gloria Long, our National Convention delegate and our Alpha Province delegate, reported on both meetings. At the Province meeting it was announced that our chapter won 1 st place for Total Golden Hand Fund and 1 st place for Golden Per Capita Award. Gloria did announce that our chapter will co-chair the Alpha Province Convention in 2016 with the Theta Lambda chapter (Roachdale). December continued to be very busy. We started the month off with our annual Christmas dinner at the Crawfordsville Country Club. Sixteen members along with 6 former members enjoyed a delightful evening of fellowship and food. Members brought donations of non-perishable items for the FISH Food Pantry and toys for Operation Toy Box. Our philanthropy projects for December began with the Santa Letter project and then our annual Operation Toy Box distribution. Gloria Long reported that we answered 90 Santa letters and distributed toys to 83 children during Operation Toy Box. We thank them for their service and for keeping us together! President Vice President Secretary Treasurer We love you!! Brenda Dannemiller Karen Mace Penny Young Eileen Jenkins Peggy Paskiet Dunkirk, IN - Zeta Chi Spring has been a wonderful season for our chapter. In April we celebrated our anniversary with a catered dinner for active members and alums. Our entertainment for the evening was an auction of 1lb items. The bidding was high spirited and the anticipation of learning what was purchased was great fun. The annual city wide Easter Egg Hunt is another of our spring activities. Seeing the joy on the faces of the children is a wonderful thing. In May we presented the Wanda D. Miskinis Memorial Scholarship to two recipients, Emily Back and Kay Morgan. We wish these two young ladies every success. A great big thank you goes to Brenda Brumfield, outgoing president, for her tireless service during the last two years. Our membership has grown almost 50%. She is leaving big shoes to fill. Delta Love, Pamela Robbins Eaton, OH - Theta Mu The Winter has finally melted away and Spring has arrived. Finally we get to enjoy some warmer temperatures and some color. The newness of Spring has jumpstarted the creative juices for the Sisters of Theta Mu as we start to prepare for convention. The anticipation of seeing everyone again and catching up is definitely on the rise. 28

With Spring comes the realization that summer and graduations are just around the corner. We have recently received 7 applications for our annual scholarship. It is so rewarding to read through the plans, hopes, and desires of local youth and to know that we are helping to make dreams of academic achievement come true. We will be narrowing our selection down, and then we will present our scholarship at the local high school awards assembly. We continue to be involved in the program known as Jacob s Ladder. This year we were able as an organization to give a much needed donation to help aid the ever growing need in our community to provide meals to children on weekends when they are not at school. Going from our youth to our seniors, we were able to collect several items which we donated to our local Senior Center to be used as prizes for their bingo games. Many items were collected and presented with great appreciation. From L to R Barb Gray, Tesha Smith, Sharon Spitler, Virginia Dearth As some of you may have read in the last issue of Grit, one of our members retired from her coordinator position at the Community Blood Center. I wanted to include a photo that was taken on her last blood drive that our chapter Theta Mu sponsored. Elwood, IN - Beta A big thank you to Cathy Huntsinger for completing another great year as president for Beta Chapter. We certainly appreciate all your hard work Cathy! Also, we want to thank Diana Garner and Kim Marley for their work as Recording Secretary and Treasurer. We know this takes extra time and we certainly appreciate you too! Our big money-makers will be over by the time you read this. We will be listening at National and Province Conventions for new ways to earn dollars for philanthropy. It is always good to re-think and re-evaluate what your chapter does and spice life up! Looking forward to seeing many of you at convention. Bev Austin Ft. Worth, TX - Omicron Zeta After hosting a great Zeta Province Convention in October, Omicron Zeta spent the months of November and December participating in Christmas Providers program in our area. We provided food, clothing, gift cards and toys for a family of 5. We each participated by purchasing and wrapping needed items and donating to grocery gift cards. Sisters made a delivery to the family just prior to Christmas. This has been an effective program and we have made it an Omicron Zeta tradition for the past ten years. Every year is a different set of families in need; no two years have been alike. We ve also have been able to flex with our chapter circumstances each year. We held our Christmas meeting/ luncheon at Nikki s Italian Bistro in North Richland Hills, Texas; just north of Fort Worth on 12/6/14. We exchanged Secret Sisters Gifts, Holiday plans and pictures of beautiful grandchildren! Here s to a New Year filled with opportunities to serve others with Delta Love. The fall event plans are underway and our organizers have some exciting new offers, call Erica at for more information. We provided and served lunch to the Circle City Rollers of the United States Power Soccer Associations national team. The power is this instance are specially designed motorized wheelchairs. The players are quad and paraplegia, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, and many other disease sufferers. These men and women of all ages compete all over the world. 30 Greenwood, IN - Nu Tau A lot is happening at Nu Tau. We have two new pledges Carolyn Montani and Marylynne Winslow. These gals bring a wealth of volunteer experience, fresh ideas, and eagerness to our chapter. We ve enjoyed getting to know them better and look forward to working with them on upcoming projects. With the holidays behind us we ve moved into philanthropy mode. Recent donations were made to Johnson County Animal Shelter, Perry Senior Services, The Social of Greenwood, Eleanor Skillen IPS School No. 34, Better Indy Babies (BIBS), Friends of Indianapolis Animal Care and Control, Beech Grove City Schools, Char s Angels, Southside Animal Shelter, Beech Grove Relay for Life, and numerous area food pantries. Pictured from left to right: Karen Lackey, past President, new pledges Marylynne Winslow and Carolyn Montani, and Carolyn Mathauer, current President Our craft fair is never far from our minds. We ve already held planning meetings, set up committees, drafted communications to our exhibitors, set up a Facebook page ( like us at Delta Theta Tau Craft Fair), and begun efforts to advertise this fall s event to be held the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We re grateful to have two new sisters to help us with all of the planning and preparation. Welcome Carolyn and Marylynne! Lynn, IN Iota Mu Finally it's April and hopefully we start getting some warm weather. We have had a few nice days but still getting cold. Flowers are trying to bloom and trees bud, so that's a good sign. Our chapter had a successful Chicken Dinner Carry out. We try to do this at least twice a year. Everyone enjoys the meals, except the ones that forget to pick theirs up. It seems like we always have a few of those. The Delt, all the way to the right of the picture, on the first row, also was enjoying her 85th birthday. Congratulations to Joann Magee. In one of the Grits, I mentioned making baby blankets. Two of those were for her great grandbabies, now born. She also received flowers from her daughter-in-law Rochelle Magee, sitting next to her. We're starting to gear up for summer activities, which will include Convention. Hope to see many of you there. Till next time. Rose Marie Cowen-Hartlage Monticello, IN - Delta Chi We just finished up our 1st Ham Loaf making of the new year. We made and sold more than Budget...That is always a Blessing. Our chocolate hearts in February were success as well.. We are gearing up now to start taking orders for our Geranium sale that we will deliver in time for Mothers day...our Geranium sale is one of our largest projects.. AND while we are doing all of this we are making lots of plans for this coming October when we will be Hosting Beta Province here in good ol Monticello. There will be many surprises and lots of fun.. Come join us girls for a fun filled weekend. Sara Clark Muncie, IN - Alpha Alpha Chapter has had a very productive year. We picked up a new fundraiser with the Panda Express, had a White Elephant Auction, offered concessions at two coin shows, and held several Raffles. The success of our Annual Cheese Ball sale enabled us to fulfill our philanthropic commitments early in the year. We are all proud of our accomplishments. Next year also looks even more promising. Sheila West will serve as President of the Chapter and Barb Cox will be Vice President. We owe much to these two ladies. They have both served as various officers as well as Committee Chairs in the past and we know that they will do a fine job. We appreciate their service and commitment to the Chapter. Thank You Ladies! Suzie Lawhorn, one of our newer members, will serve as Recording Secretary. Suzie has had lots of experience in her career as an office manager that will lend knowledge to her new position with us. She is willing to accept new responsibility and we are grateful. Carolyn Skillen will be our Treasurer. Carolyn is serving a second term. She has done a wonderful job keeping records straight in the past and we appreciate her so much. Thank You for your service. We also have celebrated our 63rd year as Iota Mu. Our chapter enjoyed a catered meal at the local Lions Club Building. We played games and had a wonderful evening of fellowship. Mary Shumacher will continue as our Corresponding Secretary. Mary has done a great job keeping us all abreast of incoming mail. She has also worked this year to search for new fundraising opportunities. Thank You Mary! We are ever thankful for Margaret Montano. Margaret will 30

serve as our Sargent of Arms once again. She has been so gracious over the years to store and care for all ritual items for us. Margaret is very versed in the By-laws of Delta Theta Tau and has kept us in compliance many times. Again, Thank You Margaret! Barb Baker will be our Pledge Supervisor. Barb has been a member for many years and has served in numerous positions. Our hopes are that we keep her very busy this year. We would love to have multiple new members this year. Katreena Stinson will once again fill the Historian/Publicity Position. The Alpha Chapter is looking forward to a year of fellowship and successful fundraising. We are all committed to serving the surrounding community and helping those less fortunate. Delta Love, Katreena Stinson Odon, IN - Eta Beta Eta Beta has just finished working at all the elementary boy and girl basketball games selling concessions. It's amazing how much kids can eat! We made Valentine Cheer Baskets and delivered them to elderly people. Now we are getting ready to sell geraniums and work on awarding scholarships. A good Delt is a busy Delt! Sue Dart Oxford, OH - Nu Alpha Nu Alpha is gearing up for its major fundraising event, Purse Bingo, to be held on April 17. Before gaming begins, we will offer sloppy joes, chili dogs, fresh veggies with dip, chips, soft drinks and homemade pies and cakes, brownies and other delicious treats. We ll hold a raffle and give away door prizes as part of the fun. It s a lot of work but all worth it when we raise enough money to support worthy programs and projects in our community. Since January, we have donated mid-year school supplies, made a donation to our local Food Pantry, and in April, we ll contribute much-needed supplies to two area animal shelters. Also on our philanthropy schedule are contributions to our local hospital s Auxiliary, the Oxford Senior Center, the Oxford Free Clinic, Luna Cares, a local fund to support women in their recovery from cancer, and the national organization, Relay For Life. Several Nu Alpha sisters will celebrate membership anniversaries in the coming months: Carol Flee, Christine Ingham, and Rennie Siebenhar will celebrate 15 years as Delts and Donna Skillings will count her 35 th year as a member of Nu Alpha. Over the years, all have made wonderful contributions to the work of our chapter and we are grateful for their time and talents! Nu Alpha sends its best wishes to all our Delta sisters for continued success in Judy Schiller Plainfield, IN - Lambda Epsilon Warm temperatures are finally here! Hope all of you have been able to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather we have been blessed with. Our March meeting began with some very special guests! Nannette and Julie from Indy SurviveOars introduced us to Dragon Boat Racing! SurviveOars is a not -for-profit organization that uses Dragon Boat Racing as a way to reach out to those with, and survivors of, breast cancer. Many of us had never heard of dragon boat racing and felt it was a wonderful, worth-while program! We will be adding them to the list of our philanthropic recipients. Pictured here are a table full of guests that attended our Make-it- Bake-it-Take-it auction. What is Makeit-Bake-it-Take-it you ask?? It s an annual fundraiser auction where each of our members are asked to make something, bake something and take something to be auctioned at the fund raiser. This year we had everything from a ding dong cake and Tupperware bread, to wine gift baskets and decorated straw hats decorated for your front door to Vera Bradley bags! Over $700 was raised! We all pitched in soup and salad and enjoyed dinner together. Thank you Cheryl for being our favorite auctioneer! Our work has just begun for the season! Next we will be cleaning out our attics and basements to prepare for the annual garage sale in May. Who will bring the most obscure item this year?? Best of luck to our new slate of officers for the new year! Happy Summer Everyone! Kim Smith, Publicity Officer Plymouth, IN - Zeta Zeta Finally, finally it is spring in Indiana! Farewell winter cold and snow! The Zeta Zeta chapter has helped beat the winter blues by being active in a few projects. We held our second largest fund raiser of the year by hosting a Trivia Night in February. We had a record turn out with over 100 people in attendance. The event has been held for several consecutive years and has grown in popularity and attendance. All who attend have a great time. In March, our club filled over 200 Easter baskets that the local FOP distributed to elementary school kids. (See photo on next page). We had quite the assembly line of workers filling eggs, placing grass in the baskets, putting goodies in the baskets and then wrapping the whole basket in plastic wrap. It is amazing how quickly large projects can be accomplished when a group works together! 31

In April we will be hosting our 3rd annual "Twenty Shades of Grapes and Hops" wine and craft beer tasting at a local deli/bar. This has been an easy event to coordinate and everyone who attends has a great time. After a long winter, we all seem ready to get out and socialize again! Finally, our club will be doing the usual "year end" events like hosting the Pledge Tea, the Pay Off Card party, selecting high school scholarship winners and wrapping up another year of club activities. Tammy Houin Portland, OR - Eta Alpha Eta Alpha s members and officers continue to work hard. We are beginning to plan for Eta s 2016 Province Convention. The dates have been approved, so we can begin contacting hotels to secure a facility for the convention. We continue to make fleece throws, crochet squares for afghans, and embroider designs on muslin squares for quilts. We continue to volunteer at food banks and historical societies. Because our numbers are declining, our slate of officers will be the same as last year. We are hopeful that we will gain new members next year. Instead of having the annual spring luncheon, Xi Epsilon set up a weekend get-together. Those of us that attended had a great time. The purpose of life is to contribute in some way to making things better. Robert F. Kennedy So Delta sisters, continue doing good deeds and making a difference to others in your community Anita Vander Meide Roachdale, IN Theta Lambda As I write this, spring is definitely here, with green and growing grass and flowering trees and plants in bloom. The mower will be coming out to get busy for nonstop work this spring and summer season! I am even going to look for mushrooms today! The ladies of Theta Lambda are excitedly starting to bake loaves of bread for our first May Basket delivery! It will be so much better to deliver goodies to our shut-ins in the spring, instead of Valentine's Day, like we have always done! We can't wait to deliver baskets of fruit, bread and candies during good weather, instead of snow and ice! Our president, Nancy Buser, had knee surgery the last of February. She is doing very well and did preside at our April meeting. We are very thankful that her surgery was successful and that she is well down the road to recovery! The 2016 Province Convention will be in Crawfordsville, Indiana! We are working with the ladies of Epsilon Omega, Crawfordsville, to help host this event. There is a lot of work to do, but it is exciting to have the Province Convention so close and to be a part of it! We are also looking forward to our summer picnic pitch-in at the home of Joanie Knapp, who is a wonderful hostess! It is always such fun to fellowship with all of our sisters and enjoy the delicious food! We certainly do have wonderful cooks in this organization! We hope everyone has a very enjoyable summer! Delta love, Cheryl Marshall San Jose, CA - Epsilon Rho Five members of Epsilon Rho Chapter volunteered again this year for the Pajama Program. As you can see by the picture, there were lots of pajamas to sort and box up for delivery to shelters and local agencies. This was only one table and there were lots more tables around the room. On one hand, it is sad to think that there are so many people who need held. On the other, it is such a good feeling to know that we have helped in some way. Our Spring Social (a Spring Tea) was held at a local Victorian themed Tea House. All the members who attended wore a hat and each one told a story about the hat (real or imagined). The tea was delicious and everyone had lots of fun. We are still gathering items for our garage sale and hope that this will be a very successful fundraising event for Epsilon Rho. Epsilon Rho Chapter hopes that each of our Delta Theta Tau sisters has a fun summer and those members attending National Convention are looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones. 33 Seneca, IL Zeta Upsilon The chapter moved on to a beautiful summer with chapter and community projects underway or being discussed. Before Easter the chapter helped spread the fun with Bunny Fun Day for the students in pre-school through grade 2 classes of Seneca Grade School. A giant Easter bunny was there to share songs, fun and candy with the kids. As spring melted into summer, our annual flower sale before Mother's Day was held. Beautiful hanging baskets and flats of annuals and perennials were delivered and placed on an eye appealing site on the main thoroughfare through town. Good prep work by members had everything ready for sales on Saturday morning. Crowds were continuous, which made for good sales and a successful sale was completed. A large basket of flowering perennials was offered as a raffle which always appeals to many of our customers. Our community celebrated its 150th anniversary in June and was extended a day to a 5-day event. New events for adults and a game day for the youngsters were offered. Our chapter decided to offer a raffle for a gift card tree instead of having a food stand this year. A gift card tree was used at our fall pancake breakfast and proved to be welcomed by the community and also a good money maker. A Welcomerburger always takes over the first night and is the only food stand. Animals, bands, a good carnival, remembrance of the World War 2 building of landing ships, and tasty food bring people from the area to celebrate with us. High school scholarship applications and evaluation was made and awards were presented to the winners at an award assembly at the end of the school year. This year we had eight $500 scholarships to present to graduates of Seneca High School. Plans have been in the works for several months for National Convention in Des Moines, IA. The chapter hosted the "Little Bit of Denim" Welcome event to get attendees in the mood for good meetings and events from July Chapter representatives looked forward to attending and hosting the first event of the convention. Several gas cards and merchandise cards were given to families that experienced health and/or fires in recent months. Heather Hartwig was welcomed into the chapter at a recent meeting. Wilma Oswald Shelbyville, IN Zeta Lambda By the time this comes your way in print, Veanna Kessler will have fulfilled her role as President for 2 consecutive years and I know that she will be celebrating! There is a lot to celebrate about our Zeta Lambda year! In June 2014, our chapter partnered with Blue River Foundation for our Scholarships. Each year our chapter gives a $500 Scholarship to a graduating senior from each of our 5 Shelby County High Schools. The Foundation will be handling advertising this to the schools & working with the counselors. They will gather applications based on our criteria for our chapter., then Zeta Lambda will decide who will receive for each school and will present the awards at their Awards Ceremonies. This partnership should ensure that the name of Delta Theta Tau will live on for many, many years to come. In July, Veanna served as Delegate at National Convention in Vancouver, Washington July 9 th 13 th. She was accompanied by Marcia Swift & Doris Sanders. It was a truly wonderful convention! Sponsoring the 2014 Theta Province Convention was an exciting experience for Zeta Lambda. Members worked together, each bringing their special talents to the table the end result was magical for sure! Veanna served the Convention as Province Chairman along with her duties as President of the Chapter. She made us all very proud! The chapter was also proud to bring in 4 new members at our Province Convention: Tammy McDaniel, Michele Richardson, Edie Keesling and Susan Taylor. Immediately following the Province Convention, we had our major fundraiser, the 42 nd annual Gift & Hobby Show. Members work very hard on this project every year, but it is one of the most rewarding experiences that we can celebrate as a team and continues to be a huge money maker for us! As the end of 2014 drew near, the chapter celebrated Christmas together at High Point Apple Orchard in Greensburg, Indiana. We had to cancel a couple of meetings at the first of the year due to weather, but managed to celebrate our Chapter s 77 th Birthday on March 17 th followed by a very successful Scrapbooking Event on March 28 th. 34 South Whitley, IN - Theta Kappa Greetings from Theta Kappa Chapter in South Whitley, Indiana. Our chapter was joined by four members of the Columbia City Beta Upsilon Chapter at the beginning of 2014, following their disband December As we experience new ventures together, we are adding to our philanthropy monthly. This year we surprised the children at The Lighthouse Homeless Shelter with Easter baskets of fun items and a few treats. What a Blessing to give to the children. A young adult scholar selected will receive a scholarship upon graduation from Whitko High School. Our giving through the year has also awarded the Whitley County 4-H Club members with our commitment to do so again this July. The South Whitley Food Bank and Grace Lutheran Food Pantry have received donations to allow them to assist the many in need. We were also able to provide Senior Paks, a bag of groceries for a year for four senior citizens in Whitley County. These gestures of caring have all become possible through our projects including our annual town-wide garage sale proceeds, geranium sales profits, nut sales profits and Home Extension Quilt Show cookie bar proceeds. Lots going on throughout the year in our chapter let alone our busy lives of family and friends. May Spring shine many smiles of hope and blessing upon all as we continue to give of ourselves to those in need. Delta Love, Janelle Smith Stockton, CA Mu Lambda Mu Lambda Chapter is excited to once again assemble goody bags to benefit the local women s center clients. We will deliver them in time for Mother s Day. We are looking forward to our spring garage sale. Spring cleaning makes for a little extra in the Chapter s savings account. It will help towards our delegate s trip to National Convention in Iowa in July and our Delta Province Convention in Paso Robles, CA in November. Enjoy your summer! Melody Ruiz Valparaiso, IN Tau Gala Proves Record Breaking Success Tau Chapter is excited to announce the 23 rd Annual Gala to benefit Opportunity Enterprises brought in $271,000, topping last year s amount as well as all previous Galas. Delta Love, Patricia Lakey Corresponding Secretary Debbie Baumert West Frankfort, IL -- Gamma Upsilon In the mornin', in the evenin' - aint we got fun! After a cold, dreary, stay-in-doors winter, the Delta sisters were treated to a party to top all parties! It was held at a local restaurant, in a private room, and the theme was "Spring Cleaning." The long table, covered with a variety of bright tablecloths, was full of every cleaning supply known to man -- or woman. Three pages of cleaning tips were given to each one attending, then we went "round table" each telling of their own beauty tip or cleaning tip. Lots of laughs and lots of great shared secrets. Each sister went home with products, which were given as door prizes and game prizes. Our next party will be lots of fun with an in-house auction to be held. Stay tuned! From L-R Joyce Willis, Joanne Brandenburg, Barb Gray, Terri Shaffer, June Maggard, Rita Daily, Olivia Dohner, Sharon Spitler, and Virginia Dearth. Greensburg, IN Delta Lambda 2015 was a special year for 3 members of Delta Lambda Chapter Sorority. Nettie VanArsdall, Pat Ewing, and Wilma Young celebrate 50 years of service to their local chapter. They all have thousands of volunteer hours which they donated in many different ways to the community. They have worked on many projects such as spaghetti suppers, food booth at our county fair, worked gift shops at the Indy 37

500 Race, Vera Bradley Bingos, and our latest project The Delta Dash which is coming up April 18 th. These three very special ladies have given not only their time and work to their local sorority, but also countless hours to our community. A dinner was held in their honor at Cricket Ridge in Oldenburg, IN. Picture boards were displayed for each member which brought back many memories for the members last 50 years. They were all presented emerald necklaces, engraved vases with white roses, and cakes which all members enjoyed. Janice Bartel composed and read a poem which related to the ladies journey over the last 50 years in Sorority. There were a lot of emotions when listening to the poem, tears of joy, laughter, and not believing what they had accomplished. This is what you call Making A Difference in DTT!!! Delta Love, Kathy Moore FIFTY YEARS Way back in nineteen sixty four A walk through a very secret door, Brought three beautiful souls to take a look What has happened since could fill a book. They learned about Sisterly love and that giving is good, And pledged an oath to do what a good Sister should. They learned what being a DELT is all about And being loyal and true and stayed the route. Fifty years! Oh where have they gone? To the Fair, spaghetti suppers, and bingo they went along To Cindy, Indy, Dallas and conventions galore Where they found more fun than hard work in store. Through all the ups and downs of this life With Sisters to help they worked through the strife. They did their part and pulled their weight No matter what else they had on their plate. Off to a meeting or off to the big 500 race Never a stumble or a halt to their pace. With a smile and a hug always they would go To further the DELT cause with hearts all aglow. To be a DELT sister is an honor you know A woman among women with places to go. They had sister friends from far and near And your own home girls ever so dear. So here we are with a rare celebration To show our sincere love and admiration. To our loyal DELT sisters Nettie, Wilma and Pat It s time to give you a tip of the hat. So hats off to you our dear Sister friends We have no regrets no need for amends. For fifty years you have been true blue Pat, Wilma, and Nettie we so dearly Delta Love You! In Memoriam Brazil, IN Alpha Omega John Erwin Etling, Founder of Catholic Charities in Terre Haute, passed away on April 6, His daughter-in-law, Dr. Miranda Goodale, is in our active chapter. Alpha Omega extends our deepest sympathies to the family. Diane Braden Crawfordsville, IN - Epsilon Omega It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Aletha Mae Ragsdale Kinnett who passed away peacefully in the home of her daughter on Sunday evening, February 1, Aletha was a member of Epsilon Omega Chapter for 50 years, and served as an active member until 2012 when she chose to become a Member at Large. She held many offices in the chapter and capably served on many committees. Aletha was a true inspiration to her Delta sisters, who will miss her company as well as her sense of humor and many kindnesses. She was born July 20, 1921, in Parshall, Colorado. Aletha married J. Herbert Kinnett on December 22, He preceded her in death on February 2, Aletha was a homemaker and was employed outside the home as well. She retired after over 25 years as a bookkeeper/receptionist. Aletha was also a member of the First Christian Church of Crawfordsville for 38

over 60 years. We extend our deepest sympathy to her family: daughter Patricia (John) Hooper (active member of Epsilon Omega), Crawfordsville, and son Michael (Sandy) Kinnett, Lebanon, five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Pat Hooper Cuyahoga Falls, OH - Xi Gamma Xi Gamma Chapter is saddened to share with you of the death of Melony Heyn, PNP. However, we also want to share a celebration of her life. Melony dedicated herself to many projects here in Ohio along with projects in Florida. To name a few, Ronald McDonald House, Goodwill, Junior Achievement, Haven of Rest and Harvest Home. She has received countless Volunteer of the Week, Month and Year awards. We can feel sorrow in our sudden loss of a friend and mentor, but we feel confident in saying that Mel is now with Jan Swerlein, and together they are planning projects for all of us to do when we get to join them in heaven. We will meet again Melony. Until then, Delta Love Kiddo! Brenda Dannemiller Lynn, IN - Iota Mu One of Melony s biggest loves in life was Delta Theta Tau. When you met Melony, it wasn t long before she was enthusiastically recruiting you to share her love for Delta Theta Tau. Sorority allowed Melony the opportunity to touch so many more lives across the country. She touched her mother Violet VanLear, her sister Gayle Savage and her daughterin law Karen Smith to join her as sorority sisters in the organization she loved so dearly. Melony began Delta Theta Tau Sorority as a member of Lambda Rho Chapter in Canton, Ohio. Brenda Dannemiller was invited as a guest into that chapter, where their friendship began the foundation of Xi Gamma Chapter in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, of which Melony and Brenda were the two remaining charter members. Melony s strengths, love of sorority, and seemingly endless desire to help others, extended beyond the sisterhood. She touched her husband Tom, who became a very supportive person in all of her volunteer projects. She touched her son, Jeff, who grew up with knowledge of sorority and its importance to his mother. It was also a big part of his life. Melony was the Gamma Province Chairman in This sparked her to begin her walk through the many offices of National Council and Board. She became our National President in July of 1993 and presided over the 1994 convention in St. Louis. Her theme for that year was Friends Are Best which was truly her theme for life. If you had the privilege to be called Kiddo by Melony, you were truly blessed by her friendship. She was the National Convention Coordinator in 2000 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Melony returned to the National Council and Board as the Director of Expansion and Growth in the summer of 2011 and just stepped out of this position this past summer. Melony s pet project was the Soap Box Derby Super Kids Race, a race for special needs children. Melony joined a group of Vietnam Veterans who were instrumental in expanding a small local race into the National Super Kids Classic, which is now held in conjunction with the All American Soap Box Derby. A small local race of 5 racers has now grown to 50 or 60 racers from across the country, and continues to thrive each year. We have loss another Delta Pa. Dale had been ill for several years. He enjoyed a trip to Florida in January with his wife. They played tourist and went to all the parks. Dale was born on March 21st, 1944 and passed on March 18th, He was a Brownsburg High School graduate and graduated from Purdue University. He served in the Army and spent 1 year in Viet Nam. Upon returning, he became an Air Traffic Controller. After that he became a craftsman and travelled doing art and craft shows, making and selling wooden toys and name trains. After meeting me, he joined me in the leather business. Again making leather items, traveling to shows and we also have a leather shop in Metamora, IN. He leaves behind his loving wife, sister, 2 brother-in-laws, 2 step children, 3 step grandchildren, 1 nephew and 1 great nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister. Rest in Peace Rose Marie Cowen-Hartlage Redkey, IN Zeta Alpha Zeta Alpha wishes to extend its sympathy to Denise Selvey in the loss of her mother, and to Robin Cotherman in the loss of her mother-in-law. Sharon Hammers Shelbyville, IN Zeta Lambda It is with much sadness that I share that Beth Corley s mother, Phyllis A. Koester Elliott passed away on February 10, Phyllis was a homemaker, and assisted her husband at Koester s Photography in Shelbyville for several years. She loved music and singing. She enjoyed singing for the residents of the nursing home. Phyllis loved the Lord and spending time with her family and grandchildren. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Beth 39

and her family. Doris Sanders Winchester, IN - Beta Nu Beta Nu Chapter lost one of our beloved members, Barbara Armstrong, on February 19. Barbara was an active Delt for over 50 years, here in Winchester and in Elwood. One of her greatest honors was to serve as the National Editor of GRIT. She was also very active in community affairs and her church. Beta Nu extends sympathy to her children, grandchildren, and especially her sister Beverly Austin (PNP). We remember all the fun and good times you brought when you entered our chapter and lives Barbara. We miss you. Dawn Keys Bloomfield, IN - Theta Gamma-Alpha We the members of Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Theta Gamma Alpha Alumni are saying goodbye to our sister Janice Allen Holt 77, who passed away on December 22, 2014 after a 32 year battle with cancer. Janice was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Janice loved her family, God, church, country and Delta Theta Tau Sorority. Janice was an active member for more than 50 years. She served in every capacity of our local sorority and was always there with a smile and her gentle way of doing all she could. When you met Janice for the first time you came away knowing you had a friend. Janice showed us all how to love. We will deeply miss her wisdom, humor, and her dedication to all she held dear.
