All the newly elected club officers! Members that completed a record book and applied for awards! All the 4-H exhibitors that have proudly represented Plymouth County at the Iowa State Fair, Clay County Fair, and Ak-Sar-Ben! National 4-H Week is here and I encourage your clubs to plan ways to recruit new members and retain all of our current members. Enrollment information is enclosed and we need it completed by December 1! If you are a new family to the 4-H program and previously had a Clover Kid, please contact the Extension Office to get log in information for your enrollment. Thank you to those members that have completed their enrollment for the year! We would also like to welcome the new members that have recently enrolled! There are so many great activities coming up in the next months and I encourage your family to check them out! Halloween Party, Poultry and Recognition Event are just a few! Be sure to read the entire newsletter to catch all the details! It s your job to read the newsletter, not your leader s! We had a fantastic leader s meeting with lots of sharing and lots to be proud of. Most importantly I want to remind members to thank your leaders, parents, and mentors for doing all that they do for you in 4-H! They do this not for a paycheck or a pat on the back, but because they care and want to see you all succeed! Sincerely,

2 MARKET BEEF WEIGH-IN All Plymouth County 4-H and FFA members with a market beef animal will need to weigh and identify their market animals at the Plymouth County weigh-in site on Saturday, December 16, 2017 from 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Please note that the last half hour from 12:00-12:30 p.m. is when any out of county exhibitors will be scheduled to weigh. You can still come during that time, that s just when they will be scheduled with approval from their county office. Weigh-in takes place at the Plymouth County Fairgrounds in the scale barn just east of the covered show ring. All Plymouth County exhibitors will need to make arrangements to have their market beef projects weighed at the Plymouth County site. December 16 th is when your 4-H project begins and you must have all market beef animals in your possession by this date. PLAN ACCORDINGLY...DON T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO GET THEM TRANSPORTED HOME. Each member may identify a maximum of six head. If there is an emergency and this date does not work you must first contact our office. Animals that will be exhibited at the Plymouth County Fair CANNOT be purchased after the weigh-in date. FAIR TROPHY & AUCTION BUYER THANK YOU NOTES! If you received a trophy, special award, or premium at the fair, please send the donor a thank you note. This is a simple, polite gesture to let them know their donation was appreciated. This does encourage them to donate again in the future. Please show our sponsors we are grateful for their support to the Plymouth County 4-H Program! If you need an address, call the Extension & Outreach office. COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING The next meeting of the County Council will be on Thursday, October 5 beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Extension & Outreach Office. We will be putting the final details together for the Halloween Party. 2 CLUB OFFICER MATERIALS As your clubs elect new officers, there are materials available at the Extension & Outreach Office and also on the Plymouth County Extension website to help the officers better understand their roles and responsibilities! Don t forget that every club will be using the same Treasurer s Book and forms! Those new forms were passed out at the Leader Meeting. 4-H HALLOWEEN PARTY The County Council will be planning a 4-H Halloween Party! It will take place on Saturday, October 21 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the Extension and Outreach Office, Lower Level. The entire 4-H family is invited to take part in games, prizes, food, and FUN! There will be prizes for costumes and decorated pumpkins! So come dressed in costumes and bring jack-o-lanterns or decorated pumpkins! Judges will be choosing a top 5 and winners will be announced at the end of the party! SHOOTING SPORTS CLUB UPDATE The Plywood 4-H Shooting Sports Club volunteers will still be offering sessions this year, but it will be at a later date and not our normal fall schedule. Their schedules are not lining up to make it happen right now and from November-January Century Hall is not available. We will keep you posted when any opportunities become available! We appreciate your cooperation and patience! *REGISTRATION WILL OPEN THE MIDDLE OF OCTOBER AND FILLS UP IN ONLY A COUPLE OF DAYS! WE WILL POST ON OUR FACE- BOOK PAGE WHEN WE KNOW IT S OPEN! 2

3 REMINDER OF LIVESTOCK HOUSING POLICY If you plan to have a livestock (beef, sheep, swine) project, please make sure you read and understand the livestock policy that is posted at: The bottom line is that if you live on a farm or acreage and have housing/water for animals, they will be expected to be housed there. Any circumstances that may come up or alternative locations that need to be found, must first be approved by the 4-H & Youth Committee (prior to a deadline/weigh-in date). If an alternative location needs to be found, it must be within reasonable distance for daily care of the animal. Any questions, please contact the Plymouth County Extension and Outreach Office at H CLUB OFFICER BOOKS DUE TREASURERS BOOKS REQUIRED! 4-H Club Secretary, Treasurer, and Historian records are to be kept from September through August. Clubs are highly encouraged to submit their books for judging which could win your club a cash prize! Officer books must be submitted by Friday, October 6 at 4:30 p.m. We must have a Treasurers book (which includes records, transactions, statements, and receipts) from EVERY club to be audited! Please do not bring us your checkbook! The audit process happens when there is a volunteer from the business we use available and we have a record from EVERY club! NATIONAL 4-H WEEK...OCTOBER H ers from across the world will all be celebrating the world s greatest youth organization! We are hoping you will all join us in celebrating by taking part in our themed days! Not only does this show our communities how much of an impact 4-H has, but it just might spark the interest of a potential new member! Be sure to share pictures of 4-H Week Activities on social media and use #4HGrowsHere! Monday: Display a clover on your locker, desk, car, window, anywhere to show your 4-H Pride Tuesday: Make a post on social media about what 4-H means to you and tag ISU Extension and Outreach- Plymouth County! Wednesday: Wear your 4-H gear! Thursday: Leave treats in businesses for clients to enjoy and be sure they know they came from 4-H (Ex. In teacher break rooms, co-ops, churches, banks, and other businesses that support 4-H! Friday: Visit a classroom at your school and FAIR GRAND CHAMPION TRAVELING PHOTO DISPLAY The Plymouth County Farm Bureau is again sponsoring the traveling photo display of the 2017 Fair Grand Champions at various bank locations throughout the fall. 4 4-H ENROLLMENT FOR ALL MEMBERS AND LEADERS The 4-H Online enrollment system rolled over on September 1. Once it rolls over all existing members and leaders in the system become inactive. Everyone must log in and re-enroll for the current year! The website is: This must be done each year, just like you would enroll in school or update your records at a doctor s visit. If your family already exists in the system, DO NOT CREATE A NEW PROFILE! *IF THE MEMBER WAS A CLOVER KID AND A NEW 4-H FAMILY, THE PARENT SHOULD FIRST CONTACT THE EXTENSION OFFICE AND GIVE US AN SO WE CAN PROVIDE LOG-IN INFO. We can look up your log on , but we can not see passwords. If you forgot your password, click I forgot my password and a new one will be ed to you. As you work through the screens be sure to double check spellings, grades, birthdates, etc. Some of you informed us of errors in this information when making a fair entry this past fair...that information all comes from what you put into 4-H Online. If your member is 18 years old, they are still a youth! Do not enroll them as an adult or you will be re-doing it! Clover Kids should not enroll in this system at this time...we will be adding as we process registrations. For brand new families, first create a new profile and then proceed through the screens of adding youth members. We do have a help sheet on our website and club leaders have a copy that was ed. The last screen will appear to be a payment screen. We pay that fee so just continue through until you get to the submit button. No fee will be charged to you. Once enrollments have been submitted they come to us and will show as pending. We will then process these and approve them. At that point the status becomes active.
