Gullen Jr. Records, Part 1 WSR Linear Feet (20 SB) English Material entirely in English. George E. Gullen Jr., was the sixth president of Wayne State University. An alumnus, he first joined the university in an official capacity as Vice President of university relations in 1966 after serving ten years as a Vice President of American Motors Corporation. In, he was named acting president and was fully appointed as president in, a title he kept until During Gullen's presidency, many improvements were made both academically and physically to Wayne State University. He initiated an affirmative action policy for the University, established the President's Commission on the Status of Women, and appointed the first woman vice president in the University's history. In addition, under his direction, the University's School of Medicine became the largest single-campus medical school in the nation. This collection consists primarily of correspondence within the university about university policies and general administrative duties, as well as meeting minutes, administrative reports, and photographs.
