It includes a schedule of what s going on and a planner at the back to help you fit in everything you want to see. This is your day. Take a tour of our campuses and accommodation. 4 4 Making the most of your day Six ways to make the most of your day. 1. Plan your time carefully Use the schedules in this guide to work out which talks, tours and exhibitions you re going to attend. If you are considering moving away from home to study, have a look at the different types of accommodation on our website, and book yourself onto an accommodation tour. 2. Be prepared Bring a list of questions. And ask them all. 3. Register when you get here When you arrive you need to register. It only takes a few moments. You can do it at the main entrance of the Owen at City Campus, and at the Robert Winston or Heart of the Campus at Collegiate Campus. If you ve already given us your details online, please bring a printed copy of your personalised barcode. You and your guests will be given stickers to show you ve registered and you ll receive a prospectus. 4. Speak to our students Our student ambassadors will be all over the University. They re here to answer your questions about any aspects of student life. There s no one better placed to tell you what it s like. You can t miss them just look for the student ambassador t-shirts. 5. If you need directions, just ask As well as the maps in this guide, and the signs around the University, our team of student ambassadors will be on hand to give directions. And there s a free shuttle bus every 10 minutes to take you between our two campuses, so you don t need to find your own way. 6. Don t forget to get something to eat Our cafés and restaurants offer good value, healthy food, using fresh ingredients sourced locally where possible. Refreshments, hot meals and Fairtrade drinks and snacks are available at the open day from the outlets listed on page 6.

7 Hello, I m James. I m one of the many student ambassadors working at our open days. Our job is to answer any questions you have and tell you what it s like here from a student s point of view. I was once in your position. I highly recommend that you ask as many questions as possible today and really get a feel for what it would be like to live and study here. 8 8 General information area Whatever you want to know, just ask. As well as the scheduled talks, you can speak to our staff and students at any point of the day in one of our exhibition areas. Here s where to find the information you want. Find out about a course or subject area At our subject exhibition stands you can speak to academic staff and students from the courses you are interested in, find out about entry requirements and get advice about choosing courses. We highly recommend you spend some time in the subject exhibition areas. They re open all day but can get quite busy at times, so make sure you save some time in your schedule. If you attend a subject talk at City Campus please use the exhibition area on Level 2 of the Atrium in the Owen to speak to the relevant academic for the course you are interested in. There are two exhibition areas at Collegiate Campus one at Heart of the Campus and another in the Robert Winston. The courses served by these areas are different. Please note that you will find the exhibition area for all Health and Social Care courses including Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedic Practice hosted in the Robert Winston, please see map on page 25 for a location. So as well as the fees and financial support talks throughout the day (see page 19 for times), we ll be providing oneto-one advice and information at the locations listed. It s a chance to speak to trained finance staff about any questions or concerns you have about fees, financial support and managing your money at university.

9 9 Spend time with our students As well as meeting staff at the Marketplaces, make sure you pop along to level 4, Howard, for our student-led activity area. See work produced by graduates, meet students on placement and listen to talks on student life. Information about student support, the Students Union and other services Going to university is exciting. It may be your first time living independently away from home. But it can also be daunting. At Sheffield Hallam there s always someone to help and support you. At the Marketplaces you can talk to our expert staff about all the support we offer. At City Campus, the Marketplaces are in the following locations. Go to the Student Services Centre, level 5, Owen, for information about getting a part-time job placement and intern opportunities planning your future career parents experiences advice, information and student wellbeing disabled student support Visit the mezzanine, level 6, Owen, to talk to staff about opportunities to start your own business our scheme to encourage enterprise Go to Hallam Hall, level 6, Owen, for information about accommodation our sports teams and facilities And see the exhibition area, level 2, Owen, to find out about admissions postgraduate and part-time study studying and working abroad Most of these services will also be represented at Collegiate Campus in Heart of the Campus. 10 10 Accommodation, city and campus tours Let the real experts show you around. Throughout the day we hold tours led by current students. As well as showing you our teaching and learning facilities, accommodation and the city, you get to hear from someone who really knows what they re talking about because they live and study here. Demand can be high, so we recommend you reserve a place on a tour at your preferred time when you first arrive at the open day. You can book a tour from the start location (see table opposite). If you would like to see more than one type of accommodation, feel free to book on more than one tour. Don t forget to make a note of when your tour departs and allow time to meet your group. Travel between Campuses Free shuttle buses run between City Campus and Collegiate Campus throughout the day. The first bus leaves City Campus at 9.15am and the last bus back departs from Collegiate Campus at 3.55pm. Student ambassadors will direct you to the pick up locations at each campus.

22 22 Directions How to find us Getting here by train and bus We re in the centre of the UK, with regular train and bus links to the rest of the country. London is just over two hours away, and Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham around one hour. Visit for times and details. Our City Campus is just a couple of minutes walk from the train station and the bus interchange. There ll be signs and plenty of student ambassadors around to show you the way. Getting here by car As there are free shuttle buses running between the two campuses, we recommend that you start your day at City Campus. from junction 33 of the M1, follow signs for A630 Sheffield City Centre continue on the A630 until the dual carriageway ends at a large roundabout with traffic signals (Park Square) take the fourth exit from the roundabout it s signposted Hallam University. This brings you directly into the city centre, close to the University electronic road signs on the main roads will direct you to our City Campus For further directions visit If you re using satnav to find us, our postcode is S1 4RF. Health and safety A continuous fire alarm is the signal to evacuate the building via the nearest fire exit. Staff and student ambassadors will guide you to your nearest exit and assembly point. An intermittent fire alarm means there could be a fire in an adjacent building. You ll be safe where you are, but don t enter another building where the alarm is sounding continuously. You don t need to evacuate unless the alarm changes to a continuous one. If you require first aid during your visit, please notify a member of staff or a student ambassador, and they will contact the nearest first-aider.
