8 Villa Maria Academy CHOIR Information Choir enhances our Liturgical Celebrations and St. Augustine tells us that anyone who sings prays twice. Since one of Villa Maria Academy s goals is to educate young women in the IHM tradition of leadership and service, Choir offers an opportunity to display leadership and give service. Choir members in Grades 4 to 8 will be providing the musical support for our School Masses. These singers will also perform in the Annual Spring Concert when they become a Show Choir and entertain through singing and creative movement. As Choir these young women will use their voices to praise the Lord; as Show Choir, they will use their voices and personalities to be theatrical. Sr. Margaret and Miss Connors enjoy the opportunity to work with these young singers. As is our tradition, we will ask Grade 3 students to become the Choir for the First Holy Communion Mass on Saturday, April 18, They will also be the music support for the final Mass of the school year in June. We will also be asking Grade 7 students to become the Choir for the Baccalaureate/Graduation Mass on Thursday, June 4, Sr. Margaret and Miss Connors will be working with these classes and will be eager to spend time preparing the students for these very special events. Membership in the Villa Maria Academy Choir is a yearly commitment. The fee for the Program is $ for the year. We offer two payment options: Option 1: Payment in full will be due at the first scheduled lesson in September. Option 2: First 50% due at the first scheduled lesson in September. Second 50% due at the first scheduled lesson in January. Checks should be made payable to Villa Maria Academy. Students in Grades 4 & 5 will rehearse with Sr. Margaret and Miss Connors on Wednesday during the Lunch/Recess period (12:35 1:05) in the Rehearsal Room on the Terrace Floor. 8
9 Students in Grades will rehearse with Sr. Margaret and Miss Connors on Wednesday during the Lunch/Recess period (1:05 1:30) in the Rehearsal Room on the Terrace Floor. Before a major performance (Christmas ant, Catholic Schools Week Liturgy, Spring Concert) additional practices may be scheduled during the Lunch/Recess period. There is one afterschool rehearsal for the Spring Concert. This year this practice will be held on Tuesday, April 21, Because it is a mandatory rehearsal it will be noted on the Academy School Calendar. Arrangements have been made that this Music Rehearsal will take precedence over all other after school activities. Solo singers for Liturgies will be chosen from Choir Members or Voice Students. Solo singers will practice before school from 7:50 to 8:10 or after school from 3:30 to 3:50. Individual arrangements will be made to accommodate those involved. Solo singers are selected through audition with the Choir teachers. Solo singing is voluntary and open to all members of the Choir or Voice. It is strongly encouraged that students studying private Voice lessons also be active Choir members. Since Villa Maria Academy has many talented singers, this is one of the most difficult decisions for the Choir teachers. It is extremely important for the integrity of the group that all members are present at each rehearsal. Courtesy would insure that the teacher is informed if a student is unable to attend her scheduled choir session. The Archdiocesan Choral Festivals, held in late February or early March are usually open to three Choir Members from Grades Rules are sent by the Archdiocesan Choral Festival Committee; however, Villa auditions only Grade 5 Choir Members. An audition and dedication to the VILLA program are requirements for selection for participation. Additional information or answers to your questions for Choir may be directed to Sr. Margaret or Miss Connors. We ask that the Choir/Chorus Registration Form be returned to school before but not later than Wednesday, September 10, mlogrip@villamaria.org jconnors@villamaria.org 9
