The course, which is offered through Open Colleges partnership with specialist health and community services education provider Integrated Care & Management Training (ICMT), comprises six units from the Certificate III in Aged Care CHC30212 that are prerequisites for entry into the Certificate IV. It will train students to work effectively with older people and support their health and wellbeing, deliver palliative care and support clients with dementia. You may complete the course in as little as three months or take up to a year to graduate. 4 Foundations in Aged Care What you need to know about this course Course number E0113 Entry Requirements Minimum education School Certificate or equivalent OR relevant qualifications OR relevant vocational experience. Minimum age Minimum age of 16 years. If you are under 18 your application must be signed by a parent or guardian. English language requirements If English is not your first language and you did not complete the last two years of secondary education in English, you are required to provide evidence of English language competency before enrolling into the course. Examples of appropriate evidence are listed below: Evidence Example IELTS Overall score of 5.5 TOEFL 530 (paper), 197 (computer) or 71 (internet) 12 months in English speaking emploment Testimonial, statutory declaration Computer requirements Students will need access to a computer and the internet. For students who do not have access to either a computer or the internet please contact a Student Support officer to discuss alternative methods of communication. Minimum specifications for the computer are: > Microsoft Office 2003, > Microsoft Windows 2000, or Mac OS X and > CD-ROM drive. Students will also need access to a printer and the following applications: > Adobe Acrobat Reader and > Macromedia Flash player. Workplace requirements Students will be required to work 100 hours in a registered aged care facility. Students will be required to demonstrate their skills in the workplace according to the units of competency they are studying. Additional requirements > Students would need to be reasonably physically fit as the role involves providing direct personal care such as showering and toileting to aged adults. > National Criminal Record Check Prior to commencing work placement, students will be required to undertake a Criminal Record Check (CRC) to obtain a National Police Certificate. > Health Student Undertaking The NSW Health Student Undertaking requires students to notify the NSW Department of Health Screening Unit if students are charged or convicted of a criminal offence after the date of issue of heir National Police Certificate or during the completion of their course. > Commission for Children and Young People Student Declaration Before commencing work placement, students will be required to sign a CCYP Student Declaration form, which they must provide to the state public health facility. This form declares that the student is not prohibited from working with children and young people.

5 Foundations in Aged Care > Health Code of Conduct Students are required to read the relevant state Code of Conduct and sign a form stating they have read and understood it. > Occupational Assessment Health departments across Australia require students to be screened and immunised prior to the commencement of their clinical placement. > Manual Handling Certificate South Australian and Tasmanian students may need to complete a Manual Handling Certificate before commencing work placement. > First Aid Certificate Some workplaces will require students to hold a current first aid certificate before commencing work placement.
