1 March 7, 2014 Volume 1, Issue 24 New Principal Selection From Dr. Will Rumbaugh, Area Superintendent Northeast Learning Community Fulton County Schools A s you know, there will be a principal vacancy at Holcomb Bridge Middle School and we are currently working to fill that vacancy with the best candidate possible. A new and improved principal selection process was created in 2012, and it has already begun for your school. The first step in this new process is to build a unique profile for your school. The purpose of the school profile is to outline the unique characteristics of the school and to highlight the most important leadership skills that your future principal will need to be successful. In order to build a school profile and obtain stakeholder input, a survey was administered recently to community and staff. It is a standard survey across the district and was developed by Fulton County Talent Division to determine the critical competencies needed of the school leadership specific to each school. Results from the survey were used this week to conduct two focus groups, one with staff and one with parents. The information from these focus groups is also added to the school profile. While the profile is being built, there is a screening of the applications for the principal position to review cover letters, resumes, and references. First round interviews at the central office will include job simulations, interview questions, and writing prompts. The most qualified candidates will proceed to the round two interviews that will be held at your school. Candidates will be interviewed on the competencies identified as the most critical to meet the unique needs of your school. Roswell, that we were the recipient of a Target Books for Schools Program. Target, through an organization called First Book provides access to new books to schools with children in need. The program has distributed more than 100 million books and educational resources to programs and schools serving children throughout the US and Canada. Education is at the heart of Target s giving and they are on track to reach $1 billion in giving for education by the end of Ms. Obregon said she and her employees look forward to becoming volunteer partners with Holcomb Bridge for future school events. Register online at Complete information about the Atlanta National College Fair can be found online at As the process of applying to and selecting a college becomes more and more competitive and complex, students and parents need all the help and information they can get. Attending a college fair is the best way to gather information about colleges and universities. The National College Fair program provides valuable resources for students and parents attempting to navigate the college-admission process. The fair allows students and parents to meet one-on-one with admission representatives from a wide range of national and international, public and private, two-year and four-year colleges and universities. Participants will learn about admission requirements, financial aid, course offerings, and campus environment, as well as other information pertinent to the college-selection process. At the fair s counseling center, students and parents can discuss their individual needs with college experts. The resources and opportunities that the National College Fairs provide for students and their families are invaluable, said Greg Ferguson, NACAC Director of National College Fairs Programs and Services, and admission professionals have been delighted by the caliber of students attending our programs. Now in its 42nd year, the National College Fair program annually helps more than 675,000 students and families nationwide explore their options for higher education, making it one of the most visible college recruitment tools in the country. In addition to the National College Fairs program, NACAC also holds Performing and Visual Arts College Fairs. These fairs are held during the fall and are designed to serve students with particular interest in the fine arts. NACAC currently sponsors National College Fairs and Performing and Visual Arts College fairs in 78 locations across the country. Ms. Heath s Tweet Chat This past Sunday, Mrs. Heath s 7 th grade Social Studies took part in a Tweet Chat. This chat was part of their review for the common assessment on the history of Africa. Students were asked to post possible test questions and answer questions which were posted. The students received extra credit for participating in the Tweet Chat. If students did not have access to Twitter, they had an alternative assignment they could do for extra credit.
