Saturday, April 6 th, 2013 Inside this invitation you will find information on eligibility qualifications, descriptions, and a list of possible credits for each test. 2 The University of New Orleans is pleased to invite you to participate in Spring Testing Orientation Program. You have been carefully selected based on your outstanding ACT or SAT scores. To be eligible for Spring Testing, you must have an ACT composite of at least 23 or an SAT composite of at least The qualifications for eligibility, a description of each test, and a list of possible college credits for each test are detailed in this brochure. Why attend? Three Big Reasons! Early Registration By participating in UNO s Spring Testing Program you will gain the highest priority when it comes to registering for courses. After test results are in, you will be able to choose courses before all other incoming students. Personal Advising Meet with an academic advisor to discuss your educational plans. Economics Savings on College Expenses Spring Testing at UNO gives you the opportunity to earn advanced standing credit for college courses and to reduce college costs. Earning credit through UNO s Spring Testing Orientation Program is offered to you at a discounted rate. Our regular orientation programs are $100 and $25 per guest. The Spring Testing fee is only $85 and guests are FREE! This fee is non-refundable. Once you have submitted the online RSVP and the non-refundable $85 fee for Spring Testing, we will validate your information and then process your payment. Your credit card will NOT be charged until your information and test scores have been confirmed and validated. If there is an issue with the information submitted, we will contact you directly. You will also receive a confirmation letter in the mail and by . Special Notes Participants at Spring Testing will have the option to take certain tests depending on their Math and English sub-scores for the ACT/SAT. You must be accepted for admission by March 18, 2013 to qualify for early registration. Because you are an outstanding student, it is possible that you may also have taken the Advanced Placement (AP) Exams of the College Entrance Examination Board. The University of New Orleans grants Advanced Placement (AP) credit in appropriate subjects to students with a minimum AP score of 3. Call for further information.

3 Local school systems can designate Spring Testing participation as part of the instructional day, and may regard it as an excused absence. Computer Science Qualifications: ACT mathematics score of 25 or above or SAT I math score of 570 and a high school course in computer literacy or equivalent experience. Description of Computer Science 1000: Computer applications tested include word processing, spreadsheets, database management systems, FTP, Telnet, World Wide Web, , and understanding files and folders. The test is in two parts: 1) Multiple choice questions covering computer terminology, binary number system, history of computers, major computer-related U.S. companies, major areas in the field of computer science and basic organization of a computer system. 2) Hands-on work using Windows/Netscape/Microsoft Office. Students may be asked to format a diskette, create folders, use Notepad, use the on-line calculator, do a word processing application, do a spreadsheet application (with or without a chart), do a database application with queries, use a search engine, send using a browser, use HTML to create a Web page with an image downloaded from the Web, and use FTP to retrieve a file from a remote site. Possible credits: Three semester hours in Computer Science Note: Computer Science 1000 credit cannot be used in certain majors such as majors in the College of Business Administration or the College of Engineering.

4 English Composition (for Advanced Standing college credit) Qualifications: Score of 24 or above on the ACT English test or 550 or above on the SAT I Critical Reading test. Description: Students are asked to write an essay of words in response to one of two topics of general significance. Essays will be judged on clarity, organization, specific development and support, logic, voice, mechanics and grammar. Students are allowed (and encouraged to use) two hours for the exam. (Note: This exam is offered twice: 8:00 am and 10:30 am on Friday.) Possible credits: English 1157 (three semester hours) or English 1157 and 1158 (six semester hours). Foreign Languages Qualifications: Score of 24 or above on the ACT English test (SAT Critical Reading 550) and considerable experience with the language. Description: A comprehensive test of reading and listening abilities in French, Spanish, Latin, Italian or German. The test will include questions involving specific points of grammar and questions about short narrative paragraphs. Possible credits: Course 1001 (three semester hours) or both 1001 and 1002 (six semester hours) or 1001, 1002, and 2001 (nine semester hours) in the language. Mathematics Qualifications: ACT Mathematics score of 25 (SAT Math 570) or above. Description: 1) College algebra, including material on absolute value, equations and inequalities, functions and their graphs; analytic geometry of the line, circle and parabola. 2) Plane trigonometry, including material on function values of special angles, trig equations and identities, right triangles, law of sines, law of cosines, complex numbers, Binomial Theorem, mathematical induction, series and sequences, vectors and polar coordinates, exponential and logarithmic functions, systems of equations, and system of inequalities. Calculators are not allowed. (Note: this exam is offered twice: 8:00 am and 1:30 pm on Friday.) Possible credits: Math 1115 and/or 1116 (three semester hours each) or Math 1125 and/or 1126 (three semester hours each). Please Note: If you do not meet these sub-score requirements, you will not be eligible to take tests on Friday. However, if you meet the ACT/SAT composite requirement, you are still eligible to participate in the early Orientation and Registration Program on Saturday.

6 UNO HONORS PROGRAM The UNO Honors Program offers membership in a community of scholars and the opportunity to graduate with UNO s highest academic distinction. Honors students participate in small, challenging classes taught by select faculty. They also participate in community service projects, social activities, and Honors organizations. During their senior year, Honors students complete an Honors thesis, for which they conduct independent research under the guidance of a thesis advisor. To qualify for the Honors Program new students must have an ACT score of at least 26 (27 in English) or an SAT I score of 1170 or higher. You will meet the Director of the University Honors Program at Spring Testing and have an opportunity to learn more about the program on Saturday. PARENT PROGRAM, TOO! Parents and visitors will want to attend the Parent Program that seeks to educate and inform those involved in this complex decision process. Learn about Financial Aid and Scholarship opportunities, the Honors Program, information on scheduling courses, our fine record of campus safety, and the tremendous academic programs that distinguish The University of New Orleans from all the rest. The Parent Program will run concurrently with the Saturday, April 6 th orientation segment. Parent Program - Saturday, April 6 th, :00-5:00 PM Campus Map and Directions For a full map and complete directions to all noted buildings, please visit the campus map found online: Check-in on Friday & Saturday will be held in the University Center Ballroom (Building 32). Parking is available on campus in the gravel parking lot between Harwood Drive and Levee Road. Important Check-In Information We require that all students check in at least 30 minutes before taking your first test on April 5 th and 30 minutes before orientation begins on April 6 th. Parents must check in on April 14 as well. The Test Registration and Orientation Center will be open Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:15 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be available throughout the two-day program. Allow extra travel time on Saturday because on-campus traffic may be unusually heavy that morning. Lunch on Saturday will be provided by the Office of Admissions.
