3 Need for Cambridge Curriculum The challenges schools face in preparing students for the future are significant. In the words of Andreas Schleicher, OECD Education Directorate (2011): "A generation ago, teachers could expect that what they taught would last their students a lifetime. Today, because of rapid economic and social change, schools have to prepare students for jobs that have not yet been created, technologies that have not yet been invented and problems that we don't yet know will arise."

4 WHY DO I NEED AN INTERNATIONAL CURRICULUM FOR MY CHILD? The idea of "Sarve greha kutambhakam" Global Village is no longer a fantasy hence the need to create Global Citizens with enhanced human awareness of responsibility towards the world. Technology fosters the idea of a unified global community creating the need to modernize the teaching methods and reach peak levels of Student potential. Employers are looking for versatile, risk takers, Analytical, out of the box thinkers with high degree of creativity. In the world of competition (or the world of the fittest), a well balanced and good communicator can only survive. Hence there is a need to revise our teaching and learning methodology.

5 What is CIE? Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) is a part of the world-renowned University of Cambridge, U.K. and is among the world's leading providers of International qualifications and assessments. They are the oldest and the largest International Exam board, conducting 2.25 million exams a year in 160 countries. CIE has been offering IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education), A & AS level (Advanced & Advanced Subsidiary respectively) qualifications. CIE are also the providers of The Cambridge International Primary Programme (CIPP). The structure & content of CIE Syllabus is such that it does not put too much stress on students but yet draws out successfully the best within them.

15 How does the IGCSE compare to other programmes like CBSE, ICSE or the Middle Years Programme of the IB? Like other modern programmes, IGCSE offers a wider range of subjects and encourages high academic standards through a practical approach to teaching and learning. Assessment is not limited to conventional written papers and they consist of a variety of tests e.g. oral and listening tests. The assessment is aimed at a wide ability range of students, with an eight-point grading scale, from A+ to G, with A+ being the highest. IGCSE is a balanced curriculum and a flexible course of study. Most subjects offer a choice between core curriculum and extended curriculum.

16 How does the IGCSE compare to other programmes like CBSE, ICSE or the Middle Years Programme of the IB? This gives students of all ability levels the freedom to choose subjects that are right for them and, thereby, the opportunity to score good grades. The core curriculum is an overview of the subject and is suitable for students who are expected to achieve grades C to G. The extended curriculum is, sort of, a specialisation in that subject. It is more challenging and designed for students who are expected to achieve grades A+ to C. While the syllabi and curricula of both IB MYP and IGCSE have an international outlook, IGCSE appears to be slightly better, in that it is tailored for a more multi-cultural and more multi-lingual audience.
