2 Academics: We have two 6 th Grade Teams at Caudill: The Challengers and the Contenders. The team concept means that students in a team will share the same core content teachers. This allows teachers to conference about the needs of their students on a frequent and regular basis. Each team will cover the content areas of: Math, Science, Social Studies and Language Arts. Related Arts: Students will have 5 Related Arts Classes throughout their time at Caudill. These include: Art Mrs. Cooksey Industrial Technology Mr. Marionneaux Careers Mrs. Sandlin Family Consumer Sciences Ms. Chaffins Wellness Mr. Bailey Band: Band is offered to all grade levels at Caudill. This class will take the place of their related arts or wellness class period. Band is a semester long commitment. If a student signs up for band, they will not be allowed to drop until the end of the semester (December for 1st semester and end of the school year for the 2nd semester) Extra Curricular Activities One of the most exciting parts of middle school is the opportunity to participate in Extra Curricular Activities. Caudill offers a variety of activities for students during all seasons of the year. 3 Baseball Coach Shelley Bell Track Coach Nick Schuerman Volleyball Coach April Craig In order to participate in any school sport, a student must have the following: A sports physical ** (this is different than the 6 th grade physical) 2.0 Grade point average; failing NO classes ** The United Methodist Church in Richmond offers free sports physical screenings each summer. Their number is BMCMS also offers students several non-athletic extra-curricular opportunities Some of these include: Archery Mrs. Campbell Academic Team Ms. Shepherd & Mrs. Broughton Mock Trial Mrs. Livingston STLP Mr. Marionneaux Student Voice Mr. Bicknell, Mrs. Denief, Mrs. Ramsey Yearbook Mr. Adam Lucas Others Renaissance Renaissance is a program celebrating student success at the end of each nine weeks. Students are recognized for good grades, good behavior and good attendance. There are different levels to Renaissance, each having their own benefits.

5 Dress Code Uniform will consist of brown/tan pants. It is acceptable to have various shades of brown/tan from light tan to brown. Cargo pants are not permitted. Girls may wear brown/tan skirts that cover the knee when standing Shorts are not permitted (athletic practice and wellness classes are exceptions) Belts must be worn (exception to this policy: pants or skirts that have elastic in the waist band AND have no belt loops.) Shirts must be of solid color and have a collar in proximity to the neck line. Shirts can have no logos other than school sponsored logos. Approved school sponsored t-shirts or sweatshirts (non-hooded) may be worn on any day. Shirts must be tucked in. Pants must be worn at the waist line. Solid color sweatshirt or sweaters (non-hooded) with a waist band may be worn without being tucked in. No garments considered undergarments shall be visible (t-shirts at the neckline are acceptable) Jackets must be put in locker during the school day. Emblems on neck jewelry must be no larger than a quarter. No bandanas, chains or dangling objects shall be part of the student clothing. Hats or headdress not permitted in school. Girls may carry purses that are smaller than a three-ring notebook. ** Slight changes to the BMCMS dress code could occur and will appear in the upcoming student handbook.

6 The Health Requirements for School are listed on the following page. In order to make it a little easier to read, here are the health requirements for entering 6 th grade. 1. A Well Child Physical Exam done within one year of entering 6 th grade. 2. A Sports Physical done within one year prior to tryouts if playing a sport. The KHSAA form must be filled out and signed by a physician. 3. In addition to the required elementary shots, the following must also be received: a. 1 dose of Tdap b. 1 dose of Meningococcal c. 1 additional dose of Chicken Pox Vaccine (2 total) if child has not had the virus See the entire health requirements on the back of this page.

7 All students are required have a valid Kentucky Immunization Certificate on file at school at all times (refer to 902 KAR 2:060 for details on exceptions and exemptions). This includes all series and boosters for tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis, polio, measles, mumps, and rubella, Hib (Haemophilus Influenzae type b), varicella (chickenpox) and hepatitis B. Dates of all immunizations (series and boosters) must be documented on the certificate with the month, day and year that the vaccine was received. An expiration date stating when the next immunization is due must be indicated. The administrative regulation 702 KAR 1:160. School Health Services establishes standards and criteria for preventative health care examinations at the local school district level. Initial Entry 1. A valid Kentucky Immunization Certificate. 2. A physical examination done within one year prior to entering school. 3. Eye examination done by ophthalmologist or optometrist by January 1 of the year of enrollment. 4. Proof of a dental screening or examination by a dentist, dental hygienist, physician, registered nurse, advanced registered nurse practitioner, or physician assistant. This evidence shall be presented to the school no later than January 1 of the first year that a five (5) or six (6) year old is enrolled in public school. Immunization requirements if child is age 4-6: 1. 2 doses of measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine on or after the first birthday and separated by 30 days; 2. 3 hepatitis B immunizations, with the 3rd dose given after 18 months of age and less than age 2; 3. Complete Hib vaccine series (number of doses required depends on how old the child was when the first dose was received) ; 4. 2 doses of Chickenpox vaccine, unless a healthcare provider states that the child has had a diagnosis of typical varicella disease or verification of a history of chickenpox disease by a healthcare provider or a diagnosis of herpes zoster disease or verification of a history of herpes zoster disease by a healthcare provider; DTaP, DT, DTP, or a combination of the two, 1 dose must be actually given on or after the fourth birthday; of IPV or OPV or combinations of the 2 vaccines with the final dose of IPV vaccine given at age four years or older regardless of the number of previous doses and the minimum interval between this final dose and the previous dose should be at least six months; 7. Complete pneumococcal vaccine series (number of doses required depends on how old the child was when the first dose was received. There is no catch up for children 5 years of age or older) Sixth Grade Entry Requirements: age 11 or 12 years or older, a child shall have received: 1. A physical examination done within one year prior to entering sixth grade; All immunizations mentioned above PLUS: 1 dose of Tdap regardless of interval since last dose of tetanus-containing vaccine is required for students at sixth grade entry, 11 or 12 years or older, with option for Td for individuals who cannot receive pertussis vaccines; 2. 1 dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine MCV or MPS 3. 1 dose chickenpox vaccine, if not given prior to starting school Out of State Transfer Students: 1. A valid Kentucky Immunization Certificate. 2. A physical examination done within one year prior to entering school. SPORTS PHYSICAL: 1. Is REQUIRED within one year prior to BEFORE try-outs, completed by a MD, PA, APRN or chiropractor. Tuberculosis Skin Test: 1. A tuberculosis skin test must be given and read prior to enrollment in school if the student comes from Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, or countries with endemic tuberculosis. 2. If the skin test is positive the child must be a chest x-ray and medical examination prior to enrollment.
