The Timberstone Wolves I Will Pledge I will not tease, threaten, or harm others. I will not start or spread rumors. I will treat others the way I want to be treated. I will look for the good in other people. I will not do what is popular, but what is right. The I Will Pledge represents what we believe in at Timberstone. The I Will Pledge is proudly displayed in the front lobby of the school for all students to see when they enter the building every day. It is our goal to see our students follow this pledge each and every day. We are excited for the start of another school year and look forward to seeing you at our Wolf Pack Welcome.
First Day of School Tuesday, August 18th, will be the first day of school for ALL junior high students throughout Sylvania. This will be a full day of school. Lunch will be served in the cafeteria as usual. Hot lunches will be sold or bag lunches can be brought from home. We will continue to provide our lunch program. Type A lunches cost $3.00 for Jr. High students and milk can be purchased for 50. On the first day of school, students should come with at least paper, a pen, and a pencil. My DynaCal: Events/Daily Announcements/Newsletters Sylvania Schools has subscribed to a WEB based calendar program called My DynaCal. We have converted our school calendar over to My DynaCal, so we can keep you updated on our school activities and athletic events. Please follow the instructions below to subscribe to My DynaCal. Our monthly newsletters will be posted to this calendar as well as the daily announcements. We believe you will find this calendar program a useful tool in keeping up with the events at Timberstone! LOCKERS Each student is assigned to an individual locker with a specific combination unique to that locker. We ask that students NOT share lockers or combinations with other students. Students lose books, money, and other personal belongings sometime during the year because of "sharing." Please help by insisting that your child keep his/her own possessions and not share lockers and/or combinations. Items hung inside lockers should be held with magnets or hangers that do not hurt the locker finish. My DynaCal Instructions 1. Go to: 2. Click on the My DynaCal link (left navigation panel) 3. Enter and password 4. Choose Add New Calendar 5. Give the calendar a name (i.e. Johnny s Band Events) 6. Select the categories of events that you would like to view in this calendar. 7. Be sure to verify your text message options and rates on your mobile plan.
A+ Assignments & Schedules Student A+ assignments will be posted on the bulletin board in the front lobby August 11th. These assignments will not be assigned alphabetically. The A+ teacher will be part of a team of teachers. Your child should report to this A+ teacher on the first day of school. It is at this time that your child will receive his/her schedule. The A+ teacher will explain the schedule to the students and assist with any problems that may arise. We do not give schedules out before that day simply because we need the option of adjusting schedules up to the opening day of school. We have many students who enroll just prior to the start of school and we learn of others who have withdrawn. This makes it necessary to adjust schedules so that class sizes are reasonably balanced. Therefore, please do not ask for your child s schedule before the beginning of the school year. Problems associated with schedules will be handled by the counselors the first few days of school. The A+ teachers will explain to the students how to handle schedule problems. Timberstone Open House Magazine Drive Timberstone students will again have the opportunity to become involved in the annual magazine drive this Fall. The sale will run from August 19th-September 8th. We have an exciting incentive program developed for the students which we hope will encourage participation. This drive is the only fund-raiser of the year. Last year, over $30, worth of magazines were sold. Proceeds from this drive go toward the purchase of school resource materials, student equipment, and student activities. You can renew expiring subscriptions, extend those that are in force, or buy new ones through your child at very good prices. Please help us make this year's drive our most successful one ever. Students will have order forms beginning August 19, All checks should be made out to: Timberstone Junior High. You can also order online: and click on Parents & Participants. See the student brochure for our on-line code as well as instructions on how to share our sale information using social media. For further information contact: Mr. David Malolepszy, Assistant Principal, at Timberstone s Parent Open House is scheduled for Wednesday, September 2nd beginning at 7:00 p.m. Your child should bring home his/her schedule the week of the Open House so that you will be able to experience a shortened version of his/her schedule. If that schedule does not come home, please come to the office that evening. We will see that you do get a schedule. Please report to your child s first period class at 7:15 p.m. We have a good deal of parking at Timberstone. It is still recommended, however, that car pooling be considered. Unlike open house in the elementary schools, our open house is designed for parents. We ask that your children stay at home.. Youth to Youth Youth-to-Youth is a Timberstone organization composed of students in grades 6th-8th who take a pledge to be alcohol, drug and tobacco free. The cost of membership is a $25 (one activity) pay to participate fee. A variety of activities and service projects are planned throughout the year. The $25.00 fee can be paid at the August orientation. Information regarding Y2Y will be available after the start of school.
WEB Where Everybody Belongs Sixth grade and new students mark your calendars! WEB is a year long transition program built on the belief that students can help students succeed. The purpose of this program is to provide a common process to successfully articulate students from elementary school to middle school. Training: Incoming 8th grade students applied in the spring to become Web leaders. The selected WEB leaders have hours of leadership & mentorship training prior to meeting with the incoming 6th grade and new students. WEB teams: WEB teams will consist of two 8th grade leaders and ten to twelve 6th grade/new students. 8th grade Leader Training will be on August 12th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Orientation: 6th grade and new student orientation will be held on August 13th from 9:00am to 11:30 am for all incoming 6th grade and new students. (Transportation will not be provided.) WEB leaders and A Team should plan to report 8:15-12:00. Medication The Sylvania Board of Education policy prohibits the dispensing of medication to students in grades 6 through 12. If your child is taking doctor prescribed medication that requires the dosage to be taken during the school day, we ask you to have your child s physician complete a Medication Administration Record form. This form identifies the medication and any anticipated reactions to the medication. This form, along with the medication, can be given to the school secretary, Mrs. Cheryl Draheim. Timberstone owns an antique postal box that contains many individual cubicles. Each cubicle is secured by a combination lock. Each student is asked to sign the medication administration form each day when he/she removes and takes the medication from his/her box. We have found this method of managing medication to work well. It will be your child s responsibility, however, to report to the office at the correct time, complete the sign-in form and take the medication. The same procedure can also be used for students who require the use of over-the-counter medication at times throughout the school day. 7th Grade Immunization Required immunizations Ohio School Vaccination Requirements now include a Tdap (Tetanus, Pertussis, and Diptheria vaccine) booster shot for all children entering 7th grade. Please plan now to make sure that your child is up-to-date! Parents are encouraged to make an appointment with their child s doctor, or to visit a Shots 4 Tots immunization clinic. Shots 4 Tots offers 12 monthly clinics around the Lucas County area. For a complete list of locations, visit lucascountyhealth.com or call the Shots 4 Tots Hotline at Forms were mailed home in the envelope with your child s grade card or a form is attached with this newsletter.
Timberstone Athletics All 6th graders will continue to enjoy their athletic program through the Sylvania Recreation Department. We will make announcements over the PA system for students to pick up flyers in the school office with information and via the Sylvania Recreation website. Timberstone is a member of the Northern Lakes League. 10 Purchasing & Food Service Joseph Shamy, Director Greetings Parents, Students, and Staff: I hope you all had a fantastic summer! The Food Service Team is extremely excited about the upcoming school year. We look forward to serving healthy, delicious food daily to our very important customers. Below is a brief overview of some of our focuses for this school year: The food we serve will be tasty, well presented, and will meet all USDA regulations for nutritional content. The Sylvania Schools Food Service Team believes in treating all of life s customers with dignity and respect. We will continue to teach students how to win for life by modeling positive, friendly behaviors. The customer can expect miles and miles of smiles daily! Customer satisfaction through high quality food, friendliness, and speed of service are as important in a school setting, as they are in the business world. We will be introducing a new customer satisfaction program that will give students the ability to give feedback on their daily dining experience. The customer is the lifeblood of any business...and to the food service program of our schools! Our district will continue to serve a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables every day as a part of our daily meal options. We will continue to serve salads in every school, every day! This school year, we will be offering expanded choices daily for breakfast at Southview, Northview, Arbor Hills, Whiteford, Sylvan, Hill View, Stranahan, and Maplewood. 11 Sylvania Schools is pleased to announce a new online payment service. Your child s school now accepts payments for school meals through the myschoolbucks.com online payment service. myschoolbucks.com offers a secure transaction gateway that accepts VISA, MasterCard, and Discover as a means of adding money to your child s meal account. Credit or debit cards can be used. Here are a few reasons to register now and begin using myschoolbucks.com: Safety-Virtually eliminates worries about your child carrying money to school Convenience-Make payments when it is convenient for you, from the comfort of your own home 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Control-If you are using myschoolbucks, you will be able to view your child s meal purchases at the school cafeteria. Also, you can set up an automatic reminder to alert you when a payment is needed for your child s account. Efficient-Make payments for all of your children in one step, even though they may attend different schools in your district. To get started, all you need is a computer, internet access and an account. It is not necessary to make payments on your child's account to view your child's meal purchases and account balance. There is a fee for credit and debit card payments. With the fixed transaction fee, you can make a single payment of any dollar amount and for any number of children, and the fee will be a fixed $2.00 per transaction.. The service automatically deposits the money into the student s meal account within one hour after the transaction is completed. We hope you find it to be not only convenient, but a great time saver. Please contact Joseph Shamy, Purchasing and Food Service Director at if you have any questions.
Student Drop-off/Pick-up Please follow the student drop off/ pick up procedures. The traffic flow is designed for student safety and we appreciate your cooperation with the process. Picking up your child at the west end of the building has eliminated students darting between buses to get into the parent s car. At the west end, it is important to pull up as far as possible so all parents can drop their students off in a safe and timely fashion. Not only does this increase safety with the parent and bus traffic, but with the high school student traffic as well. Northview High School uses the practice fields and stadium for their track teams which increases traffic at the end of the school day. Timberstone Athletic Booster Club Membership Student Name Address Home Phone $50 Family Pass (Receive free admission to all home athletic events for parents and siblings that live in your household. List all family member names on the back of this form.) $25 Student Pass (Receive one free student pass to all home athletic events.) $20 Grandparent Pass (Receive two free passes to all home athletic events. Please make checks payable to Timberstone Parent Organization and mail or send to Timberstone.
Pay to Participate The Sylvania Board of Education approved a "Pay to Participate" fee to join school athletic teams and activities. This was instituted years ago to help defray the costs of these activities. The fee will be collected again this year during the preseason by the Timberstone coaches and advisors. All pay to participate fees must be paid prior to the first game or activity of that team or extracurricular activity. We will ask that the fee be paid by check and made payable to Timberstone Junior High. 21 Magazine Sale This once a year activity takes place late August/early September over a 2 week period. Volunteers help keep track of the sales and prizes that the students earn. The customers are billed directly as opposed to the students collecting money so it does not involve collection and counting money. Most volunteers are needed at 9:30am. Media Center Assist the Timberstone Media Center Specialist on a regular basis during A+ time (2:25pm 2:55pm). Duties include checking in/checking out material, re-shelving material, monitor and aiding in research, etc. Vision/Hearing Screening Volunteers are needed to assist the school nurse with vision and hearing screenings. This takes place during the day, usually in October or November. 6 th Grade Activities This group plans 2 casual, fun activities a year just for the sixth graders such as dances and other functions.
