Junior High School is to increase the academic achievement of all students by providing them a rigorous and relevant standards-based curriculum, while enhancing, promoting and demonstrating effective and positive relationships. Principal's Highlights The students and teachers of Jr. High School proudly maintain a high standard of excellence in the areas of academics, fine arts and athletics. 750 of our students participated in our award-winning band, choir and orchestra programs, and all received superior ratings. Our teachers successfully implemented the SpringBoard curriculum, which enhances rigor and student-engaged activities. Over 200 students participated in our English language arts and math CRT Boot Camps during the school year. Approximately one-third of all students were enrolled in accelerated English/reading and math classes during the school year. Our teachers held weekly Structured Teacher Planning Time (STPT) meetings, in order to develop rigorous lessons, based on Common Core State Standards. The percent of students keeping up in math increased from 44% to 46%. The percent of students keeping up in reading increased from 69% to 72%. The ELL subgroup doubled in proficiency from 11% in 2012 to 23% in Our Algebra I students had a 90% pass rate on the distict Semester I exam; 25% of the students attended Math Institute as an Early Bird class. Goals and Objectives Goal 1 Jr. High School will increase the percentage of students proficient in reading. Objective(s): Increase the percent of Grade 8 Students in ELA from 67% to 70% by 2014, as measured by the School Growth Summary Report. Increase the percent of IEP students catching-up in ELA from 8% to 10% by 2014 as measured by the School Growth Summary Report. Goal 2 Jr. High School will increase the percentage of students proficient in mathematics. Objective(s): Increase the percent of Grade 6 students catching-up in math from 9% to 20% by 2014, as measured by the School Growth Summary Report. Increase the percent of IEP students catching-up in math from 4% to 9% by 2014, as measured by the School Growth Summary Report. School Communication Efforts Junior High School utilized traditional and innovative resources to consistently communicate with our community. Open House, Family Nights, Parent Newsletters, the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC), Doughnuts with Dads, Muffins with Moms, and Student Planners are some examples. utilized the ParentLink interactive communication tool to provide parents with opportunities to regularly monitor their child's academic progress, citizenship, academic history, and attendance. also utilized the ParentLink autodialer feature to deliver special messages to parents with timely information about school events, PAC meeting dates, tutoring sessions, and standardized testing. Fifth grade parent orientation activities in the spring provided important information to ensure a smooth transition from elementary to middle school and Welcome Back Day activities in mid-august were designed to adequately prepare students for a successful school year.
