We were happy to see so many smiling faces from parents, students, and family members. We are looking forward to a successful school year where all students SOAR LIKE EAGLES! Family Handbook Talks: Mrs. Johnston & Mr. Haugens delivered Family Handbook talks to students in first - fifth grade today. We ask that parents review the family handbook with their child(ren) and sign the responsibility pledge that will be coming home with students. The Family Handbook can be found on the Erickson Website under the Family Handbook tab or by clicking here. Communication: Erickson feels it is important that parents are informed about school activities and events throughout the school year. Each week, we will send home the Erickson Express to provide information about the coming week/month. Erickson will also send home a monthly calendar in student backpacks. Parents can also follow Erickson on for more frequent information. Chromebooks: Students in 1st-5th grade will have a chromebook this year to take home on a regular basis. If you have questions about the chromebooks, please contact the classroom teacher. Click here for Frequently Asked Questions about chromebooks. Bus Routes: Erickson Elementary School is working with First Student to ensure routes are accurate. Please be patient as we make adjustments to routes. If you have a question about a bus route, please contact Erickson Elementary School. Staff members from Erickson were on bus routes during the PM to ensure students arrived home safely.

A link to the Presentation Material used during the talk, as well as, the Family Handbook can be found at the bottom of this page. The expectations outlined in the presentation and found in the Family Handbook are established and reviewed annually to establish a vibrant learning community for both students and staff. Please review the presentation & handbook with your child(ren). There is a Responsibility Pledge that we will ask all students and parents to sign and return. Presentation Link: Handbook Link: (located on the Erickson Webpage under Family Handbook)
21 Handbook Points of Emphasis CHARACTER COUNTS! : In District 13 we encourage our students to practice and model the six pillars of CHARACTER COUNTS! each day whether it s walking to school, riding on the bus, working in the classroom, walking in the hallway, playing on the playground or eating in the lunchroom.
22 Character Counts! At Erickson Elementary Character Counts! Weekly Character Counts! Activities Monthly Service Projects Monthly All-School Fundraisers House Pillars Eagle Tickets
23 Handbook Points of Emphasis BULLY FREE BEHAVIOR: Erickson School strives to be a bully-free school. Physical Bullying, which involves harm to another s body or property. Emotional Bullying, which involves harm to another s body, property, or feelings. Social Bullying, which involves harm to another s group acceptance. These behaviors can include actions and/or words. Encourage your son/daughter to report all suspected bullying to their teacher, Assistant Principal, or Principal as soon as possible.
24 Handbook Points of Emphasis ABSENCES: Please call the school office answering machine before 8:30 a.m. to report an absence. Call each day a child is absent. If you do not call, you will receive a call from the school office after 9:00 a.m. inquiring about your child s absence. There are excused (ie.- illness, family emergency, etc.) and unexcused (ie- vacation) absences. Please read the Attendance Policy in the Family Handbook for more details. TARDIES: Students are considered tardy if they are not in their classrooms when morning announcements are read at 8:45. There are excused tardies and unexcused tardies. The school principal will make these judgments in accordance with the policy on attendance/absences. DISMISSAL: Parents are requested to inform the school of any changes in the pick-up procedure for a child. A note should be sent to your child s teacher indicating the change. Please refrain from making changes to the pick-up procedures after 2:00 pm.
25 Handbook Points of Emphasis BIRTHDAYS: During morning announcements the names of all those celebrating a birthday will be read. Anyone whose birthday is on the weekend will have his/her name read on Friday. Those students with summer birthdays will be assigned a date during the school year when their birthday will be announced. As a result of food allergies, and other food related issues, birthday treats are NOT to be sent to school. Students will not be allowed to pass out any items. The school will give each student a birthday token. Birthday Invitations are of a personal nature and are NOT to be sent to school to be passed out. This practice has caused hurt feelings for those students not invited. Please send invitations by mail only. The school office is unable to provide addresses or phone numbers to parents. Those joining the PTO will be given a student address booklet.
26 Bus Expectations If your child rides a bus to school, there are several rules that will ensure a safe, enjoyable trip to school. Students must ride their assigned bus and get on/off at their assigned stop. Students can not ride another bus to or from school without prior permission from the office. Students are to be at their bus stop on time. Maintaining time schedules is very important. Student Bus Safety Drills will be conducting by the bus company in September. The Principal and Assistant principal will also discuss bus expectations with students at the beginning of the school year. For a full list of bus expectations please refer to the Family Handbook as well as a the Bus Expectation presentatioin: Reviewing these rules prior to the start of school can help make a smooth transition to bus riding.
