3 Gold Miner News and Highlights --- August - September Page 3 Regional Manager Charlie Lopez IF THE MOOSE DOESN T SEEM THE SAME MAYBE WE NEED TO LOOK WITHIN From time to time, I have heard our members say, The Moose Has changed so much over the years. I agree that this is true, but some of the changes, which are unflattering, may be self-inflicted. I can remember a time when every Lodge, Chapter and Moose Legion unit was heavily involved in the most basic ideals of this fraternity. Today, it is easy to pick out the units that have forgotten all about those ideals. They are failing miserably. Believe it or not, most people in this world care about others and how we can help them. It s not all about the price of drinks. For example, your community can list your lodge into one of two groups: 1- On the list that comprises all of the drinking establishments in town, or 2- On the list of those organizations that are a valuable asset to the stability of that town. In Which Group Does Your Unit Reside?? The following opportunity, is a gift. A gift to either continue to your fine work in your community, or a gift to be used to regain valuable ground in the fight to stay alive. ATTENTION ALL FRATERNAL UNITS One of the most important Community Service Programs undertaken by this Fraternity is now struggling as it reaches the finish line. Each Lodge, Chapter and Moose Legion is being asked to become heavily involved in our: FLIGHT 93 MEMORIAL PROJECT It s Easy! Just Order 2 dozen, 10 dozen, 20 dozen, or as many dozen FLIGHT 93 TIES (at $10.00 per tie) that your unit wants. Then assemble your committee to sell them to anyone that wishes to make a donation, including members at the lodge, the general public, fairs, shopping centers, or anywhere you can put up a display, showing your unit s involvement and support for this county s most important recognition of bravery in decades. Two great patriotic occasions are on the horizon. Labor Day and 9/11 are perfect occasions to generate donations for this endeavor. While many of our units starve for recognition from their communities, this would prove to be a ready-made opportunity to shine. But, many would pass on this opportunity to re-establish or re-affirm their worth to the areas in which they reside. Remember, every penny raised, goes to the Memorial Fund. Any additional donations received during this effort, must be forwarded to Moose Charities. CALL THE SUPPLY DEPARTMENT AND PLACE YOUR ORDER! DO IT TODAY!! GET INVOLVED NOW!! 4 Gold Miner News and Highlights --- August - September Page 4 Chuck Dombrow Jr Past President Legacy of The Moose and the Golden Ball Now is the time for all Lodges to start planning on holding the Legacy of The Moose or a Golden Ball. The months of October through January are the perfect months to plan one of these events. The complete booklet on both the Legacy of the Moose and the Golden Ball is available online by clicking the following link. The document is in Adobe PDF Format and you must have Adobe Reader to view and print the document. Instructions are included below to obtain a free copy of Adobe should you need it. Legacy Of The Moose The 'Legacy of the Moose' is a new approach to recognition of our legacy, and to acquaint our membership with the necessity and advantage of Mooseheart, the 'City of Children' and Moosehaven, the 'Haven of Contentment'. It was conceived and written to bring about a clearer understanding of why the Loyal Order of Moose continues as a progressive force in humanitarian service to mankind, and to explain the need for continued promotion of, and contributions for, the Mooseheart/Moosehaven Endowment Fund. Golden Ball The 'Golden Ball' is not new. It was conceived and written by the famous author and philosopher of his time, Dr. Elbert Hubbard in 1914 when he was a regular contributor to Moose Magazine. The 'Golden Ball' serves to demonstrate that unity of purpose is a necessary factor in the growth and progress of our Order, as told in the story itself. Although the story of the Golden Ball was written long before Moosehaven was conceived, it has a double meaning now, as it affects both Mooseheart and Moosehaven Mandatory Criteria for Premier Lodge Award Mooseheart - Moosehaven Endowment Fund Increase over Prior fiscal year.

8 Gold Miner News and Highlights --- August - September Page 8 D.V. Gregory, Webmaster California/Nevada Moose Association, Inc Website dvg41@gosnc.com Communicate! Communicate! Communicate! I am amazed when I read lodge bulletins or look at their websites. What you see in most has nothing to do with the most important aspect of our organization. MEMBERSHIP and MEMBERSHIP PROMO- TION! With the exception of the WOTM Membership Campaign can be found in most of the bulletins. Could this be because the editors are women? If I was the lodge officers and membership chairman, I would make sure that any and all information relating to membership is found in the bulletin, on the lodge website and posted around the lodge for all to read. If the members don t see it... they forget it! Still need help from the lodges in reference to posting the names of the departed Fellows for If someone from the lodge or legion would the Fellows name, lodge No. and date of departure, I will post on the CNMA website. Once this area is going and does not overpower my time, will start a section for the Women of the Moose. The CNMA Website has been in existence for almost 9 years now. We continue to look for and make changes for the many readers that visit our site on a daily basis. Did you know - our website sees visitors on many days. Did you know - Moose websites have been judged on the International level for the last 5 years? Did you know - our site has been either in second or first place every year. Just shows that to be a winner, you need to get the information inserted that is of importance to the membership. Communicating and sharing information helps us all become winners! Want your lodge bulletin on the CNMA Website? Have the editor or someone to me. If possible send in pdf format. If you have any questions, please get in touch with me. Be glad to help. Working together, we are not only a piece of the puzzle... but a piece of the solution! Keep up the great work everyone! Thanks for all you do for the Moose! Fraternally, DV Gregory

9 Gold Miner News and Highlights --- August - September Page 9 Women of the Moose Membership By Carol Veach, CA-NV WOTM Membership Coordinator IT S ABOUT TIME! It s About Time to honor the Top Sponsor in each of our CA/NV Districts. She must, of course, be in Reno, Nevada, on Saturday, September 12, 2009 to be in our Parade. With tiaras and roses and signs and certificates. With pompons and cheering and Judy Sisson leading the way. We have fun in our Parades and the Loyal Order does, too! If you think you could be the Top Sponsor in your District and you are going to be in Reno, or call your chapter recorder or me. We love our sponsors. And remember, some Districts are small or far away even two or three new members could make you a Top Sponsor. It s About Time to sponsor a new member. Your Membership Team offers an exciting new Membership Campaign that began May 1, 2009 called It s About Time! Sponsor a Member Beautiful watches, fun watches and lots of them - clocks, a sundial, a lovely cherry wood and glass hourglass are just some of the goodies for those who sponsor three or more new members before the end of February We plan to draw names for donations of $36.50 to Gimme 5, too! It s About Time for each of you to make a difference. We had nearly 20 chapters in our two states that did not enroll a single member in May or June. I m willing to bet their co-workers don t know about our beautiful Membership Campaign with fantastic watches. They may not even know that Moose International offers many awards, too, for inspiring your members to ask others to become a Moose. They need to know. Please help your co-workers and your chapter by showing them our great Membership Campaigns. Put the posters in your newsletter and on your bulletin board to urge your co-workers to ask their friends to join. Make sure the Senior Regent or Membership/Retention Chairman reminds them at meetings. You can be the one who shows the way to a successful chapter by increasing your membership. :-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:- Contact me or a Membership Team Leader in your area and ask us to be the entertainment at your next meeting. We can excite your members! We can lead a cheer, explain how to fill out an application, talk about mentoring you pick the topic and then stand back. Our enthusiasm will blow you away. Even better, we work for actual gas money and refreshments! Call me at or at elzieveach@aol.com for the Team Leader in your area.

16 Gold Miner News and Highlights --- August - September Page 16 Fred Reichelt Treasurer Greetings and Thank You for all you do. I had the pleasure of attending the Convention in Chicago and the experience was fantastic. As many of you know, there was a lot of new information and changes that came out at Convention. The presentations were well organized and presented in a timely fashion. There is a CD available that covers the Convention and it would be a good venture for lodges or District President to obtain a copy and share accordingly. The presentation on Mooseheart on how they are working with the hard times was very impressive. They are leading by example as many of us do. Cutting 87 jobs and reducing the budget by about $3 Million dollars showed they are doing their part and that is why we stay strong. We adapt and overcome and the challenges are opportunities for the strong performers such as you. The trip to Mooseheart was fantastic as I was able to attend the ceremony of the High School Graduating Class for 2009 in the morning. The place was packed and every graduating student including the one sponsored by Vacaville Lodge received a Scholarship and will be attending College in the Fall.
