5 GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS Class of 2023: Courses are either AP (11,12), Honors, or College Prep. 120 credits (Full year =5, Semester = 2.5) 4 years of English Language Arts and Math 3 years of a laboratory based Science 3 years of Social Studies, including World History and US History I and II 2 years of a World Language 2 semesters of Fine Arts 1 semester of Wellness each year
6 HOW ARE COURSE DISTINCTIONS DETERMINED? Grade 8 teacher recommendations which take into account a student's course grade, subject-specific skills, and work ethic and patterns Confirmation exams (where applicable) MCAS scores (where applicable) Parent/Guardian discussion
7 GRADE 8-9 TRANSITION Transition program featuring the LAKER LEADERS. Students may communicate via monitored social media and will be able to ask questions about classes, athletics, etc. via the REMIND app. LAKER LEADERS are also an integral part of our annual Freshman Orientation Program. FEBRUARY-Grade 8 teachers make course recommendations and administer placement exams during the month of February. MARCH-Grade 9 counselors will meet in small groups with grade 8 students in mid March to discuss schedules, grading and other policies. MARCH-Completed Course Selection sheets returned to parents for examination and signature. MAY 1- Deadline to submit REQUEST to CHANGE LEVEL of COURSE forms. AUGUST- Orientation Day for students, featuring team building games and activities,finding classrooms and lockers, and other transitional activities. Followed by evening Parent/Student Orientation.
8 GUIDANCE CURRICULUM Coordination of transition to high school, introduction to Naviance college & career exploration, small group & individual counseling, Lifelines Suicide Prevention Program (Grade 9) Continuation of college & career exploration activities with Naviance Interest Inventories, College Fairs, Career Day & small group & individual counseling (Grade 10) College & career exploration activities continue with Job Shadows, College Fairs, Career Day & Campus Hops, introduction to college admissions & application process with Naviance (Grade 11) College counseling & application process, financial aid & scholarship information (Grade 12)
9 PLAN FOR COLLEGE WHILE IN HIGH SCHOOL The college admissions process starts the minute your child starts school in September While a rigorous academic schedule is important, a challenging, realistic, & child-specific course of study is encouraged Plan to attend the High School Planning for College and Career Success presentation January 24, 2019!

Literature Electives: Public Speaking, Creative Writing, Theater, Journalism, & Horror Fiction Activities: Fall Play, Spring Musical, Writing Contests
12 ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS MCAS % of students received Proficient or Advanced scores. AP English Language & Literature of 89 total students received a qualifying score that may result in college credit for English. 41% of the 11th grade enrolled in AP English Lang.
13 MATHEMATICS 4 years of Math is required Next Generation Online MCAS in Grade 10 Algebra I, Algebra 1 Honors, Geometry and Honors courses offered to Grade 9 As noted, 86% of our test takers scored Advanced or Proficient on the 2018 Math MCAS Exam 98% Passed the Exam Grade 11 & 12 Elective course offerings include: Personal Finance, Statistics & Calculus Honors AP Calculus offered in grade 12 Activities: Math Team

DECA- School store, multiple events such as sporting events, competitions, leadership conferences, school ski trips and the JA Titan Challenge Heat Press-clothing/apparel business Library Wi-Fi hotspot, 28 desktops, 2 printers and 22,000 print titles Accessible during all Academic Labs & supports curriculum in classes Open during all lunches for students to complete work Library Internship Program-open to all grades 2 Chrome Carts
18 UNIFIED ARTS Music Performing Ensembles include; Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Choir, Select Choir Emphasis is on the development of musical understanding through performance Academic Music courses include Music Appreciation,History of Rock, Independent Music, Music Technology and Music Theory Academic music courses are available to all students & no musical experience is required Wellness 1 semester each year is required Academic and Physical components to the curriculum 9th grade units such as Personal Wellness, Interpersonal Relationships & Mental Health, along with engagement in Cardiovascular Health, Strength Training, Tradition Team Sports and Non-Traditional Team Sports Art of Healthy Living for 11th and 12th grade, taken as an elective. Wellness I0, 11, and 12 include various units to promote lifelong, healthy decisions and unique field experiences such as Skyzone Students in grades 10 and 12 have the opportunity to become certified in First Aid/CPR and AED Training for infants, children and adults Curriculum is vertically aligned in order to promote lifelong wellness for all students
