I know people who have graduated from the university who have told me that the courses provide real, hands on experience and that the lecturers are very well regarded. 11 FINANCIAL ANALYSIS STUDENT PROFILE Willibeth Linsao Financial Accounting Manager Toyota Finance Australia The Master of Financial Analysis provides exactly what I wanted in a course; a dual understanding of both finance and accounting. My background was in accounting so the course has really enhanced my technical knowledge, in particular within the finance area which has definitely boosted my confidence at work. The Master of Financial Analysis will enable you to develop advanced level expertise in a range of contemporary accounting and finance areas. The combination of core subjects and electives from accounting and finance is designed to offer a balanced coverage of both disciplines. Who is this program for? This program is for those with either previous qualifications or experience in accounting or finance looking to prepare themselves for more senior managerial roles. Possible study alternatives You may also seek to undertake a major in Accounting or Finance from within the MBA program (see page 11). 13 FINANCE ALUMNI PROFILE Cameron Pascoe Analyst Market Insights Rice Warner Actuaries One of the major advantages for me was the proximity of the campus to the city. Since I was working full time, it was great being able to get to uni in just 15 minutes. The university is also well equipped with modern facilities and engaging teaching staff. One of the best parts of the degree was learning a concept one day, and applying it at work soon after. I clearly remember covering risk measures and risk-return relationships in class and applying those concepts at work only a few months later. I even consulted my notes! The Master of Finance will develop the comprehensive range of skills and expertise required to put you at the forefront of your professional practice. Engage with learning strategies that cover contemporary finance theory and leading edge techniques for professional practice in the finance, banking and investment sectors. Who is this program for? Finance is for those seeking to progress or enter a career within the finance, financial services and international markets fields. Possible study alternatives You may also seek to undertake a major in Finance from within the MBA program (see page 11). Alternatively, if you already have significant prior study and experience in Finance, you may choose to consider the Master of Quantitative Finance program (see page 22). Professional Recognition The Master of Finance program addresses a significant percentage of the CFA Program, Candidate Body of Knowledge and incorporates The CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct. Completion of the Master program meets the educational components to become a member of the Finance and Treasury Association (FTA) (by application) at the Certified Finance and Treasury Professional (CFTP) level. Completion of the Master or Graduate Diploma program provides you with 300 or 200 points respectively towards becoming an Associate of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA) (by application). UTS Business School has also achieved a CAIA Association Academic Partnership. The Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) Association is the world leader in alternative investment education. How this program works Students in the Master of Finance complete 8 core subjects totalling 48 credit points and 4 subjects from a specified list of electives. 15 QUANTITATIVE FINANCE ALUMNI PROFILE Arnaud Jolly Director, Commodity Trading Commonwealth Bank I'm originally from France, and after studying Engineering I wanted to specialise in Quantitative Finance and was looking for an overseas experience. My university in France had a close relationship with UTS and Australia looked like a dream destination. Postgraduate study can be difficult at times, especially if you are also working part time. Being able to organise my work in a productive way was one of the most important things I learned. Hone your skills to apply quantitative finance to advanced financial instruments, experience an integrated approach to risk management and learn how to implement quantitative finance strategies. Who is this program for? This program is for those with a previous qualification in finance or a strong quantitative background seeking to extend their career opportunities in quantitative finance analysis in the modern finance industry.
