3 1 MUSHAIRA An Urdu Mushaira was organized by GACS in LGES Auditorium on 18 th January The programme was conducted in two rounds i.e. Ghazal and Nazm. The host school was not included in the competition to ensure transparency of results. Chairman LGES, Maj Gen Farrukh Rashid graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Mushaira

4 2 NIMUN 17 NUST International Model United Nations Conference (NIMUN) was organized by the Department of Business Administration at National University of Science and Technology (NUST) Islamabad from 3 rd to 5 th Feb Students from LGES participated in the event. Abdullah Javed from GACS won Outstanding Diplomacy Award. NIMUN 17

5 3 EARTH DAY International Earth Day was celebrated in Garrison Academy for Cambridge Studies on 21 st April To commemorate this day, a special morning assembly was conducted by the students of O-I and O-II. The participants enlightened the audience with thought-provoking poems and speeches, depicting the theme. The Principal, Dr. Rubeena Anjum, highlighted the significance of saving and protecting Mother Earth in her inspirational speech. After the morning assembly, a bilingual essay writing competition was held in O-I and O-II to spread awareness about this day. The teacher in charge of the event was Mrs. Shazia Iqbal. Earth Day

6 4 MILLS Multiple Intelligences and Leadership Learning Skills sessions and lego activities were held in Garrison Academy for Cambridge Studies on 26 th, 27 th and 28 th May Thirty-six students from O-II took part in the activity, in which cognitive skills and aptitude of the students was tested. Twelve teachers mapped the learning and leadership skills of the students during the sessions. MILLS at GACS

7 5 INDEPENDENCE WEEK Independence Day Celebrations were held in GACS from 8 th to 14 th Aug, Milli Tarana Competition was held among the students of O-II and O-III on 8 th August. A skit titled Aaina was performed by the students of O-II and O-III. The script was written by Mr. Nazir ul Hassan Ambalvi. A quiz competition was held among the students of O-II and O-III comprising five teams, on the topic, Pakistan Movement on 9 th Aug,2017. A bilingual story writing competition based on the theme of Pakistan was held among the students of O-II and O-III on 10 th August. A friendly Football match was held between the male staff members and the students of O-II and O-III on 10 th August. The movie Jinnah was shown to the students of O-II and O-III on 11 th August to arouse patriotism among the students. A special morning assembly was held comprising national songs, skits and speeches on 11 th August. The flag hoisting ceremony was held on the Independence Day. It was attended by the school administration and ancillary staff. Independence Week

9 7 TREE PLANTATION DAY Tree Plantation Day was observed on 28 th Aug, 2017 under the supervision of Biology Department. The students of O-I, O-II and O-III brought the plants and around fifty plants were planted in the school gardens. The teachers incharge were Mrs. Sadia Amir and Mrs. Shazia Iqbal. 10 8 LMO S VISIT LGES Psychologist and LMO, Dr. Raheela visited Garrison Academy for Cambridge Studies on 30 th Aug, 2017 and delivered a lecture on the topic Carbonated Water and its After-effects. The students of O-I, O-II and O-III attended the session. LMO s Visit

11 9 DEFENCE DAY Defence Day Celebrations were held in GACS from 7 th to 14 th Sep, An Urdu movie based on the life and achievements of Rashid Minhas Shaheed was shown to the students on 7 th Sep. A Painting and Poster making competition was held among 25 students of O-I and O-II on 8 th Sep. Some other activities, arranged for the students, during the week, include: a patriotic poem recitation competition, special morning assembly, two football and netball matches, a quiz competition, English speeches and a Milli Tarana competition. 13 11 NCUK CAREER COUNSELLING Simulated session on Career Counselling was held in Riphah International University, Lahore under the auspices of Northern Consortium United Kingdom (NCUK) on 20 th Sep, The faculty members and career counsellors from institutions all across Lahore were apprised of University admission policies regarding Split Degree Programmes offered in Pakistan and United Kingdom. GACS was represented by Ms. Sabeen Asif, Mrs. Sadia Amir, Mrs. Irum Munir, Mrs. Nabeela Noor and Mr. Masroor Hussain. NCUK Career Counselling

14 12 GACS ELECTIOS 2017 Elections for the post of Head Boy/Girl, Assistant Head Boy/Girl and Secretary Head Boy/Girl were held in Garrison Academy for Cambridge Studies on 22 nd September Two parties, Garrison Front and Students League, were represented by the symbols of Pen and Eagle respectively. The students of GACS enthusiastically participated in the campaign and voted for their favorite candidates. Dorrab Khan, Ayesha Zahid, Ahmed Mustafa, Maham Amir, Usama Butt and Minkshay Khan won by immense majority. The teachers in charge were Mr. Umar Zaman Khattak, Mr. Raza Abbas Raza and Mr. Bilal Khan. 16 14 COUNSELLING SESSION BY NCUK The Student Counselling Session by NCUK was held in Garrison Academy for Cambridge Studies on 18 th October It was a one hour session conducted for the students of A-I and A-II. The first resource person was the Student Recruitment Manager, Mr. Asif Naeem. He briefly introduced the University of Sheffield in London to students through presentation and guided them towards the meaningful career choice based upon their subject stream. The key aims were subject selection, subject combinations for various disciplines, downloading applications for admissions in different universities, introducing programmes and most importantly, preparation for applying to foreign universities. The second resource person was Mr. Mansoor Hayat Butt from Riphah International University. He familiarized the students with the programs offered at RIU and highlighted their significance. 17 15 OATH TAKING CEREMONY Oath taking ceremony was held on 24 th Oct, 2017 in the morning assembly. The Principal Dr. Rubeena Anjum awarded sashes to the elected students followed by the oath taking. Oath Taking Ceremony

18 16 CRICKET TOURNAMENT Inter Garrison Sports activities were held in which the students of GACS showed active participation. Abdul Ahad from O II-D was declared the best batsman of the tournament. Cricket Tournament

19 17 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT Basketball matches were held in GBHS on 22 nd and 23 rd Oct, The boys team from GACS won the final match. Business Day

20 18 BUSINESS DAY Business day was held on 3 rd Nov, 2017 at GACS for fundraising, which was mainly required for the Social Action Projects. Various stalls were put up by the students belonging to the eight groups of Active Citizenship Programme. The stalls comprised food, gaming, prison and song dedication. Mustafa Bhatti from A-II managed the whole event in a befitting manner. Business Day

21 19 WELCOME PARTY Welcome party was arranged by the students of A-II for A-I on 4 th Nov, 2017 from 3 pm to 6 pm. There was a variety of performances for the new batch of A-I. Welcome Party

22 20 IQBAL DAY To commemorate this day, a special morning assembly was held in GACS on 9 th November The students of O and A Level actively participated by reciting poems, prose and poetry of the great poet. The Principal Dr. Rubeena Anjum also shared her thoughts reflecting the impact of Iqbal s poetry in our lives. Iqbal Day

24 22 PANDORA 2017 Pandora 17, was organized by BCCG from 17 th to 19 th November, students of GACS actively participated in most of the sessions such as Programming, Science, Arts, Law Moot, Crime Scene, Debates, Ad Making, Fashion, Singing and Gaming. The students won awards in several sessions and also achieved runner up prizes. PANDORA 2017

25 23 BLACK DAY GACS mourned the tragic death of the students and staff in a brutal attack on APS&C Peshawar. Quran Khwani was held for the martyrs from 9:00 to 10:30 on 16 th Dec, The Principal, all staff members, students of O- level and ancillary staff gathered to pay homage to the martyrs in the morning assembly. 26 24 SQUASH TOURNAMENT APSACS Inter-Regional Squash Championship 2017 was held on 20 th Dec, 2017 in DeSOM Squash Court, Lahore Cantt. It was hosted by Garrison Academy for Cambridge Studies. Various teams from Lahore and Gujranwala Region participated in it. The Championship trophy was awarded to Lahore Region (Boys). Gujranwala Girls Squash Team was given walkover against Lahore Region and were awarded winner trophy. Regional Director APSACS Lahore Region, Mrs. Shahla Rasheed gave away the trophies. 27 25 BUSINESS DAY Business Day was held on 21 st Dec, 2017 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in the main ground of Garrison Academy for Cambridge Studies. A variety of stalls were arranged for the students comprising food items and games. The students of O III-D managed the event under the supervision of Mr. Ejaz Ahmed, Mrs. Saima Sehar and Mrs. Bina Sabir from the Department of Business Studies. The event was well managed and the revenue generated from it will be used for the welfare of the ancillary staff. Business Day

28 26 ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP PROGRAMME Active Citizens Programme (ACP) is a non-profit programme run by the British Council in partnership with civil society organization. The programme works with people who have taken social responsibility including youth workers, groups for women, education and faith leaders. Working together, these local influencers build trust and understanding, develop skills, and deliver projects on urgent themes such as poverty, literacy, democracy and climate change. ACP was carried out in Garrison Academy for Cambridge Studies (GACS) from March 2017 to Jan, Five teachers from GACS attended Training of Facilitators (TOF) programme conducted in March 2017, including: Ms. Shaista Haq, Ms. Sabeela Asim, Ms. Mehwish Tahir, Ms. Madeeha Zeeshan and Mr. Usman Munawar. An Orientation session was conducted by the trained facilitators to enable the students to get familiarized with the objectives of ACP. Sixty students were selected on the basis of willingness of students and permission of parents. The classroom sessions of ACP were conducted in August On the last day of training, students were divided into eight groups. Each group selected an area of improvement from the society. Proposals were prepared and presented to The British Council in September After the approval of Social Action Projects (SAPs) by The British Council, students started working on their respective SAPs. The final presentations of SAPs were conducted on 18 th December 2017 in front of The British Council. The show-casing event of the programme is awaited in January The two winner teams, The Environmentalists (being led by Mrs. Shaista) and The Educationists (being led by Mrs. Madeeha) have been invited to the show-casing event in Islamabad.
