Please advise the School Office if you do not approve of your child s photo being used. From the Principal s desk. Welcome to Week 2. Firstly, I would like to thank our school community for their support of our staff who had a very productive professional learning day yesterday. The staff worked with Dr Sarah McDonough on numerous aspects on best practice in Literacy teaching. I am sure that this continued focus on improving our teaching practice will benefit our students. This is an integral component of a quality Professional Learning Community. Confirmation Enrolment it was very pleasing to see so many of our Year 6 students and their families at Mass last Sunday for the enrolment Mass. Confirmation is a very important sacrament and attending Mass and reflecting on our faith is a cornerstone of the journey. Miss Bolton We continue to pray and keep Miss Bolton in our hearts. She was able to attend our Professional Learning day yesterday, and it was wonderful to see her looking well and engaging with her friends and colleagues. Miss Amber Teale will continue to teach Year 5 until Miss Bolton returns to us. Tomorrow we will be celebrating our Mothers and those amazing women in our lives who have acted in the role of mothers in our lives, that could be our Grandmothers, Aunts or other caring people. Please join us for our special Liturgy tomorrow to celebrate Mother s Day. A Prayer for Mothers All-loving God, we give you thanks and praise for mothers young and old. We pray for young mothers, who give life and count toes and tend to our every need; May they be blessed with patience and tenderness to care for their families and themselves with great joy. We pray for our own mothers who have nurtured and cared for us; May they continue to guide us in strong and gentle ways. We remember mothers who are separated from their children because of war, poverty, or conflict; May they feel the loving embrace of our God who wipes every tear away. VISION STATEMENT To change the world through our faith in Jesus who is our light and hope.

2 We pray for women who are not mothers but still love and shape us with motherly care and compassion. We remember mothers. grandmothers, and great-grandmothers who are no longer with us but who live forever in our memory and nourish us with their love. Amen. Gospel and Reflection: John 15:9-17 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one s life for one s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit fruit that will last and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other. REFLECTION The gospel today is a sort of vision and mission statement of Jesus. It highlights the love of Jesus for us, his call, and his hope that we will bear fruit. Our baptism is the first recalling of that love, promised to us in care and protection for this life and into eternity. It joins us to the community of love received and love shared. More than that it is a call to follow in love. That we are willing to take on the characteristics of being a follower of Jesus in care, love and compassion for others. More still we are to bear fruit. The call of Jesus is to share in the salvation of the world, in making the world a better place to live in for everyone. The follower of Jesus is committed to care of the earth and care for others. Love for the earth and love of each and all is fruit that will last. It is a high calling, challenging to us at all ages for the young when making decisions about life and where the gospel of Jesus influences our decision; to follow through on our promise to serve God well at all ages of life, and to surrender much to him in elder years. The love, the call and our service is at the root of a great and sustaining joy in life as Jesus wants our joy to be complete and we join our lives to his vision of the world and how it might be. 5 CONGRATULATIONS ASPEN Aspen represented St John s Primary at NSW PSSA Swimming Championships Sydney held at Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on the 11th and 12th April. She made it into the finals for all five of her events 100m freestyle, 50m freestyle, 50m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke and 50m Butterfly. Aspen won 1st place 50m Butterfly with a pb time sec, 2nd place 50m Freestyle with a pb time of sec and 3rd place 50m breaststroke pb time of sec. Aspen also swam in the Polding relay team winning a bronze medal. Aspen has made it into the NSW PSSA State team to swim at the School Sport Australia 12/U Champions to be held in Hobart at Done Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre, Tasmania from the 25th July to 31st July in the following events 50m Butterfly, 50m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke. Well Done Aspen and Good Luck In Tasmania

6 Spelling Bee News Stage 2 and Stage 3 students have been practicing their Spelling Bee skills this week. Grade Spelling Bees have been held and 20 Stage 3 students and 25 Stage 2 students have been selected to complete in the SJP Spelling Bee. It will be held in the hall on Thursday 10/5/18. Stage 3 will be held at 9am and Stage 2 will be held at 11:30am. Parents are welcome. Two students from each Stage will be selected to compete at the Bathurst Diocesan Spelling Bee, in Wellington, on Thursday 31/5/18.
