SCHOOL MOTTO Non Sine Pulvere Palmam SCHOOL HYMN Who would true valour see, Let him come hither: One here will constant be, Come wind, come weather; There s no discouragement Shall make him once relent His first avow d intent To be a pilgrim. Whoso beset him round With dismal stories, Do but themselves confound: His strength the more is. No lion can him fright; He ll with a giant fight, But he will have the right To be a pilgrim. No goblin nor foul fiend Can daunt his spirit; He knows he at the end Shall life inherit. Then, fancies fly away; He ll not fear what men say; He ll labour night and day To be a pilgrim. SCHOOL SONG Non Nobis Domine, Not unto us, O Lord, The praise and glory Be of any deed or word. For in Thy judgment lies To crown or bring to nought All knowledge and device That man has reached or wrought. And we confess our blame, How all too high we hold That noise which men call fame, That dross which men call gold. For these we undergo Our hot and godless days, But in our souls we know Not unto us the praise. O Power by whom we live, Creator, Judge and Friend, Upholdingly forgive, Nor leave us at the end; But grant us yet to see, In all our piteous ways, Non Nobis, Domine, Not unto us the praise. Non Nobis, Non Nobis Non Nobis, Domine. THE FOUNDER S PRAYER We give You most humble and hearty thanks, O most merciful Father, for our pious founder, Arthur Henry Anstey, and for all our benefactors by whose benefit this whole School is brought up to Godliness and good learning; and we humbly ask You to give us grace to use Your blessings to the glory of Your Holy Name, that we may answer the good intent of our religious founder and become profitable members of the Church and of our country, and at last, share in Your heavenly kingdom, through our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen. 2

GESIYE SOUZA-OKPOFABRI PROFILES OF SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS The Bishop Anstey Family recognizes and celebrates Gesiye Souza- Okpofabri s achievement in the realms of scholarship and success. She has been awarded an Open Scholarship in the Art and Design category having obtained A s in all profiles with Grade 1 in Art and Design as well as excellent results in Pure and Applied Math, Physics and Communication Studies. Gesiye entered Bishop Anstey High School from the University School in The Art Department has had the great pleasure of interacting with Gesiye at both CSEC and CAPE levels where she excelled in the challenges of both programmes. From the very beginning Gesiye had all the necessary qualities to be a National Scholarship winner. Gesiye had a great passion for success. Her drive for success was not only to obtain excellent results in Visual Arts, but her performance was paramount in every subject. She always worked with a positive and graceful attitude. On entering Lower Six, Gesiye worked consistently, listening to all the advice her Art teachers had to give. She was purposeful and goal oriented with regard to attaining a scholarship. With focus and self-motivation, she has been able to accomplish it! This highly motivated student was involved in swimming, volleyball and football. She was also the president of the Astronomy Club, a member of the Environmental Club and also taught the Violin. She was also a member of the Pan Group and Mixed Instruments Band, the St. Augustine Orchestra and the TnT Youth Philharmonic Band. She was also a member of the Metamorphosis Dance Company. This ambitious student was fortunate to have the support of her numerous friends, her dedicated teachers and devoted parents. We congratulate you on a job well done! 24

ASHLEIGH DEOSARAN Ashleigh Deosaran was awarded an Additional Scholarship in Visual Arts as a result of her excellent performance in the following subjects: Art and Design, Caribbean Studies, Literatures in English, Management of Business and Communication Studies. Ashleigh entered Bishop Anstey High School in September 2004 where she was assigned to the Form 1A class. Very early in her school career, it was clear that Ashleigh had the potential to do exceedingly well. Throughout her time at Bishop Anstey High School she was involved in a number of activities. Those dear to her heart were scrabble, swimming, volleyball and the Young Leaders Ashleigh sat her CXC O Level Examinations in 2009 and attained eight (8) passes in the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, French, Mathematics, Principles of Business, English A, English B and Visual Art. Her disappointment at not achieving a Grade One in Visual Art did not damper her spirits. On selecting her subjects for Form Six, Ashleigh decided to pursue Literatures in English, Management of Business, Communication Studies, Caribbean Studies and once again Art and Design. Choosing these subjects was by no means an easy decision. Once settled in Lower Six, Ashleigh worked consistently and courageously struggled to meet the challenges of her CAPE subjects. She listened attentively to her teachers, welcomed criticism and was always willing to improve in her weak areas. Ashleigh s teachers and peers would agree that she worked quietly, and consistently aimed to complete her assignments to the best of her ability. Ashleigh was always fully prepared for class always having a detailed methodical plan for every flambouyant assignment that she dreamed of creating. One of the things that will stand out in our minds was her support of her friends and her ability to work alongside her peers, co-operating and helping them as the saying goes no man is an island entire of himself. This high spirited and eager student developed intellectually and emotionally from Lower Six to Upper Six and for this we are proud. Ashleigh never gave up, especially when things got rough or when the way forward seemed impossible. On behalf of the Principal, Vice Principal, Board of Management, teachers and students, we congratulate you and we wish you God s continued blessings in all that you do. 25

CHANANEL GIBSON Today we celebrate the academic success of Chananel Gibson. Chananel has been awarded an additional scholarship in the humanities/modern Studies category for her excellent performance in the 2010 and 2011 Cape Examinations in Caribbean Studies, History, Sociology, French and Communication Studies. Chananel s current success follows in the footsteps of her many outstanding achievements academic and non academic, throughout her life at Bishop Anstey. It is her excellent performance in the CAPE 2011 examination which won her the coveted Modern Studies Scholarship, a feat so impressive that only four other students in the whole of Trinidad and Tobago, out of the 348 awards given, won scholarships in this field. At the CAPE examinations among students of this school she place 1 st in Caribbean Studies, Unit 1 French, Unit 2 French, Unit 1 History, Unit 2 History, unit 1 Sociology and unit 2 Sociology. Chananel possesses an incredible work ethic and her efforts were consistent over the years. Her assignments were always submitted on time and of a high standard earning her top marks. In upper six when students started lowering their aims from a 1 to a 2 in the different subject areas, Chananel continued to score over 80% as a final term mark in all of her subjects. She was quiet but actively contributed to class discussions. She was calm but never complacent; she always tried to do better. Chananel nurtured other interests outside of her books. She was class Hilarian of 3B for the academic year She also had a keen love for debating, a skill that she developed quite well, displaying it not only in her essays and in class debates but in public fora. She took part in the 2008 Young leaders Debate and the 9 th National Youth Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago in She was also a participant of the Toastmasters International Youth leadership Program. In July, Chananel travelled overseas to participate in the Global Young leaders Conference, which is a conference organized annually to give high achieving students a greater understanding of their roles as a global ambassador. She developed good relationships with her peers and their relationship was one of nurturing success. The support they shared helped Chananel as well as other members of the group to perform quite well. Congratulations Chananel. We know that you will continue to do well and make us proud. 26

LANA KASSIE Lana Kassie entered Bishop Anstey High School in September of the year 2004, hailing from Newtown Girls RC School. The remarkable success that this bright young lady has achieved is a testament to the unswerving commitment to excellence that characterized her seven (7) year sojourn at Bishop Anstey High School. In her first year at this institution in 2004, she received an award for Academic Achievement. For the period she received an award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. Lana maintained a high standard of academic performance which eventually saw her gaining entry to the form six class and saw her efforts culminating in the winning of a National Scholarship and placing tenth (10 th ) in the region in the CAPE French Unit two (2) exam. Lana, highly self-driven and passionate about her pursuit, will long be remembered by her teachers for her perseverance. 27

Our Trophies are returned by the recipients immediately following this Ceremony and are displayed for all to see in the showcase in the School s office. We would also like to thank all the friends of Bishop Anstey High School and all members of the Hilarian family who have given us assistance in many ways throughout the past year. At Bishop s, we have always had to work hard to provide all the facilities we require for the young people whose care and education is entrusted to us. But God is good to us and we have learned that, when faced with tasks of seemingly impossible proportions, He will show us the way. We are therefore very grateful for all his goodness to us and for the loyalty and assistance of our Hilarian family and our many friends and well wishers. We look forward to your continuing support. Finally, our thanks to the staff of Bishop Anstey High School for their patience. 28
