1 Guru Nanak Sikh Academy Primary Phase Sport Funding report School overview At Guru Nanak Sikh Academy, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children. Our Primary School Sport s Funding enables us to continue and extend our provision through employing additional sports professionals, entering into more competitive sports competitions and training our staff to deliver in-house quality PE sessions. What is Primary School Sport Funding? (PSSF) The Government has provided funding of 150 million per annum for academic years , and to provide new, substantial primary school sport funding. This funding has continued for the academic year 2016/17. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport and will see money going directly to primary school Headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. Our Primary School Sport s Funding will enable us to continue and extend our provision through employing additional sports professionals, building upon on resources and equipment and training our staff to deliver in-house quality PE sessions. 2 Purpose of the funding Schools have the opportunity to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport to benefit all of the pupils and to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles. Possible uses of the funding could include hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE, running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games. See below for details of how we at GNSA Primary phase we are spending this funding and monitoring the impact of this funding this year. The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity kick start healthy active lifestyles. 2. The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement. 3. Increased self-confidence, knowledge of skills of all staff in teaching PE and Sport. 4. Broader experience of a range of activities offered to all pupils 5. Increased participation in competitive sport.

To have a range of equipment and storage area that is accessible for staff and to ensure prompt start to the PE lessons. Staff to have the support of the PSD coach 1 x 6 week block of work in Gymnastics, Dance and Athletics. Staff to observe 2, team teach 2 and teach 2 lessons. To provide hooks and storage cages for balls. To have all equipment out, pumped and on display. Sports captains to do an inventory. 1,200 for 7 weeks of coaching 2 days a week. (Autumn term 1) for 6 weeks coaching- 2 days a week. (Autumn term 2) 1,020 for 6 weeks coaching 2 days a week (Spring 1) TOTAL= 3, for cages, baskets and badminton storage rack. Evidence/Impact I definitely picked up a starter routine and feel confident that I could deliver a similar starter for dance. (Year 5 teacher) All teaching staff has had 6 weeks of dance and gymnastics teaching to observe, learn and teach. It is so much easier to get some cones and balls out for my lesson- I didn t know we had so many cones and a variety of balls! My teaching time has increased (Year 2 teacher) (Photographic evidence of cupboard / use of space on request) Sustainability /Next steps Staff being able to deliver blocks of work in Dance and Gymnastics. Feel confident with using gym equipment. Video footage taken as a teaching resource. Plan to have an Inset to share ideas across different Key Stages. Continue to have easy access to equipment and now a range of equipment has been used within lessons supporting all abilities.

4 5 Re-vamp the House system and allocate Sports Captains To introduce a netball club for targeted pupils. Student competition to name the house teams (This was voted as Mars, Venus, Saturn and Jupiter). 1 boy and 1 girl have been voted as sports captains of each house. Students in Year 5 & 6 to have a netball club and train once a week. At the end of each month, they have a three way tournament with Year 5, 6 & 7 pupils within the school.. No cost. TOTAL = Coaching fees for: Autumn 1: 175 (5 weeks) Autumn 2: 245 (7 weeks) Spring 1: 200 (5 weeks- Price increase ) 1 set of netball posts; TOTAL = 798 I have really enjoyed being a Sports captain as I enjoy making teams for the house competitions. I have become confident. (Year 5 pupil) I like the new house teams and enjoy the competitions each term. I really enjoy playing netball. I have learnt how to do a chest pass and shoot. I am a good shooter. I can t wait to play the teachers next week All pupils are to be involved in a variety of house competitions throughout the year and Sports captains have developed their roles. Looking to enter a netball league in the Borough from Sept To increase school competition in netball as well as football. 4 Offer a new club to pupils that are PP and have not attended any previous clubs. A new sport that has never been a club before. Target at lunchtime as some students are unable to stay after school. Coaching fees for Dodgeball club. 20 pupils in Year 2. Spring 1: 175 (5 weeks) TOTAL = 175 All PP students will have an opportunity to take part in this club for approx. 6 weeks. A new club with new skills developed. Looking to have a house competition in the future

5 5 To enter a football league within the borough to promote school competition. Trails have been held for pupils in Year 5 & 6. Years 6 to enter the Borough league- Year 5 are training with Year 6 to be prepared for Autumn season Sept Coaching fees: Autumn 1: 175 (5 weeks) Autumn 2: 245 (7 weeks) Spring 1: 200 (5 weeks- Price increase ) TOTAL = 620 For the first time, the students have done extremely well and have won half of their matches. To see the results, please visit Year 6 boys to play in year 7 league (secondary phase) and have confidence in their football skills. To hire an Athletics specialist to support teaching in throwing TOTAL = 1, 260 Coaching fees: Summer 1 & 2: 2,040 (12 weeks) Staff to gain knowledge in teaching Athletics and play a supportive role in Sports day. To support different events for sports day and ensure quality teaching in Athletics.

Purchase resources across a range a of ball skills, warm up games and S&F games for staff to gain access to. 0 Students to be active during their lunch hour in addition to their 2 hours per week. 224 Key stage Key stage 2 TOTAL = 538 Staff to gain access to resources, images, DVD s to be used across all Key stages and adapt them to all areas of activity. SMSA s to have skills to support active play during lunch hours across all Key Stages. These will be used over the year and in the future.

7 Affiliation for British Gymnastics (Starting in August 2107) Application for membership in July Membership 78 per annum that covers EYFL, KS1 and KS2 British Gymnastics membership will allow staff to purchase award schemes to run with Primary pupils. Including DVD resource, certificates and badges. Secondary Staff to run through program so that Primary staff are ready to teach in September Staff to be confident in being able to teach a block of 6 weeks in Gymnastics. Easy to follow scheme and students get rewarded. 4. To have a rounders club offered to pupils in Year 3 & 4 Offer a new club on rota so that all pupils in Year 3 & 4 will get a chance to learn rounders. TOTAL: 78 Coaching fees: Summer 1 & 2: 480 (6 weeks) TOTAL 480. Students to learn new skills in Roudners to support Striking and fielding skills. Pupils to be able to enter the Year 7 Borough competition following specialised club training. In addition to the coaching and resources, staff and pupils at the Primary school have also been offered/ had opportunities in: - Secondary PE staff delivering Inset on teaching Badminton so that all Primary staff are able to run a girls badminton club for Year 6 pupils for 14 weeks. - Secondary PE staff have delivered Inset on O&AA- team building games to support teaching in Spring 1 alongside Gymnastics with PSD coach. - Secondary PE staff have delivered striking and fielding skills for KS 1 & 2 staff to support Summer 1 teaching alongside Athletics. - QPR Health Stars team are currently delivering a 6 week Health programme for Year 3, 4 & 5 from Feb half term to July. They are also running workshops for Parents on healthy eating and being active. This will cover all 5 Key Indicators over the Academic year.
