1 Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championship May 13-14, meters, Dillon Lake, Nashport, OH waiting. This was the fifth year for the Midwest Scholastic to use its Dillon Lake course. Culver qualified for the finals in 8 of its 15 entries, and the Petite Final in the boys first varsity 8. Unlike the two previous years, it was sunny, warm and only a slight breeze. The event ran well except for a delay of over an hour, stranding several events during Sunday s finals while repairs were made to the course lanes. CMA s novice four was one of those races that sat out in the sun, Culver raced in competitive events and was only focused on sweep events in fours and eights with almost all the athletes entered in two events. In team placings CMA was twenty-second place among boys teams and CGA nineteenth place among teams with girls. As a team Culver was fifteenth in the combined boys and girls points. Culver placed fourth in three events, fifth in two and sixth place in four finals. The CGA (fourth place) varsity four qualified to attend Scholastic Nationals and the group of five senior girls decided to compete. (Only the events including Culver entries are listed below among the 40 events raced.) Rowers are restricted to at most two events. This year the HereNow timing system was used for the first time allowing for the precise comparison of times. Novice events consist of rowers that began rowing since the previous May. In the events that had between 8 and 14 entries, there were two semifinals, the winning crew in each advanced to the final along with the fastest four times. If there were 15 or more entries there was a head race time trials with the top 12 advancing to two semifinals with the winning crew in each advanced to the final along with the fastest four times.
