In addition to our Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes, we have added a full day Transitional Kindergarten program at Dos Caminos this year. Dos Caminos is also the home of the PEEP program (Preschool Early Education Program) for 3 and 4 year-old students. Furthermore, Dos Caminos offers SDC classes to Kindergarten and 1st grade students who qualify. Dos Caminos is fortunate to benefit from Title I funds which provide for fully credentialed teachers that support each classroom with added small group instruction and ELD support for our second language learners. We are a professional learning community that takes great pride in the work that is accomplished for all of our students. The teachers work as teams and provide a cohesive program for all students. Collaboration and teamwork with the staff, parents, and community members have helped us become a school that is recognized for the excellent academic program provided daily. We continue our great work with character education, safety awareness, and providing a safe and secure learning environment to help each child be successful within and outside of the classroom. Dos Caminos has continued the implementation of new educational technology. Last year, we added a new computer lab of 35 desktop computers to our campus. Inside the classrooms, we currently have one 3rd grade classroom that has a 1:1 ratio of ipads to students. In addition, we have a 1:1 ratio in 4th and 5th grade of lap tops and Chromebooks to students. Furthermore, we are anticipating the arrival of over 50 more ipads and 30 more Chromebooks to our school. This dramatic increase in technology has helped our students access more Common Core aligned materials and has fostered a stronger sense of collaboration and creativity with these new tools at our students' fingertips. Dos Caminos has also created a partnership with the Community Health Care District this year. Our Student Council will be taking multiple trips to an Adult Day Care Center to volunteer and assist with the adults who attend the center. We are aiming to teach our students the rewards that can be found from giving back to our community in such a way. Mission Statement The mission of Dos Caminos School is to provide an equitable, high quality education for all students. All students will learn through a challenging, standards based curriculum to achieve "at" or "above" grade level proficiency. We foster a learning environment that recognizes and appreciates the diversity of our Dos Caminos community. The SARC contains information about the condition and performance of each California public school. 3 Quality, Currency, Availability of Textbooks and Instructional Materials (School Year ) The school district held a public hearing on October 17, 2013, and determined that each school within the district had sufficient and good quality textbooks, instructional materials, or science lab equipment pursuant to the settlement of Williams vs. the State of California. All students, including English learners, are given their own individual standards-aligned textbooks or instructional materials, or both, in core subjects for use in the classroom and to take home. Textbooks and supplementary materials are adopted according to a cycle developed by the California Department of Education, making the textbooks used in the school the most current available. Materials approved for use by the State are reviewed by all teachers and a recommendation is made to the School Board by a selection committee composed of teachers and administrators. All recommended materials are available for parent examination at the district office prior to adoption. Cleaning Process Two part-time custodians ensure that the cleaning of the school is maintained to provide for a clean and safe school. The district governing board has adopted cleaning standards for all schools in the district. A summary of these standards are available at the district office for review. Maintenance and Repair District maintenance staff ensures that the repairs necessary to keep the school in good repair and work orders are completed in a timely manner. A work order process is used to ensure efficient service and highest priority are given to emergency repairs. Deferred Maintenance Budget The district participates in the State School Deferred Maintenance Program, which provides matching funds on a dollar for dollar basis, to assist school districts with expenditures for major repair or replacement of existing school building components. Typically this includes roofing, plumbing, heating, electrical systems, interior or exterior painting, and floor systems. Engagement State Priority: Parental Involvement The SARC provides the following information relevant to the Parental Involvement State Priority (Priority 3): Efforts the school district makes to seek parent input in making decisions for the school district and each schoolsite. Opportunities for Parental Involvement Dos Caminos offers a variety of opportunities for parent involvement. First and foremost, we have an energetic PTA that facilitates a number of activities for our students and families. Our PTA has approximately 100 members who help the school by raising funds to support programs, fund field trips, and provide supplemental resources. This year, we have invited parents to such events as our 50th Anniversary Carnival, Movie Night, Game Night, monthly PTA meetings and more. Parents are also invited to attend a variety of parent education events, Art Night, Back-to-School Night, and Open House. In addition, our School Site Council and ELPAC (English Language Parent Advisory Committee) provide parent support and ongoing decision making regarding important items that effect our campus. Furthermore, we have family fund-raiser nights that bring families together at local restaurants. Parents attend field trips, volunteer regularly on site, and are an important part of our Dos Caminos community. An on-site translator assists with conferences or other communication needs for our Spanish speaking families. And, with the rise of social media, we are also reaching out to our parents though a PTA Facebook page, Twitter, not to mention our Dos Caminos Web Site. State Priority: School Climate The SARC provides the following information relevant to the School Climate State Priority (Priority 6): Pupil suspension rates; Pupil expulsion rates; and Other local measures on the sense of safety. School Safety Plan The safety of students and staff is a primary concern of Dos Caminos Elementary. The school is in compliance with all laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to hazardous materials and state earthquake standards. The School Site Safety plan is reviewed and updated in the fall and spring of each year. All revisions are communicated to the both the classified and certificated staff. The school s Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) includes steps for ensuring student and staff safety during a disaster. Fire and disaster drills are conducted on a regular basis throughout the school year. Lockdown drills are held as needed. Students are supervised before and after school by campus supervisors and teachers, as well as during lunch and break periods. There is a designated area for student drop off and pick up. Dos Caminos is a closed campus. Visitors must sign in at the office and receive a badge, unauthorized visitors are not permitted on campus. Opportunities for training and staff development are provided at both the district and individual school sites to administrators, teachers, and classified staff.
