2 February 2016 Dear Parents/Guardians We are very pleased to announce this year s Holiday Revision programme, where staff have given generously of their time to support children. If your son or daughter is interested in any of these sessions they will need to complete the application form at the back of this programme and return it to the academy office by no later than Friday 26 February Places are limited however, we will attempt to ensure that all students can attend at least one of their first three preferences. These sessions are very popular and whilst we will try to meet your requests wherever possible, we cannot guarantee places. If you are successful in securing a session then we would ask that you ensure your child attends in order to avoid valuable places being wasted. Students who have not engaged with the term time extra session provision may not be illegible for places. We appreciate that some subjects are on the same day so students will need to prioritise. Please note that English and Maths Revision will be offered during the. Details are enclosed but it is important to indicate these on your wish list. Students attending Holiday Revision sessions will need to provide their own packed lunch and transport. Students do not have to wear uniform, however exemplary behaviour is expected and the Academy Code of Conduct will apply. Parents will be contacted if any student misbehaves or is in breach of the academy rules. Poor behaviour may result in these prime time sessions being cancelled before or during the holidays. We know that students will find these courses beneficial and a useful addition to their own revision. 3 EASTER REVISION PROGRAMME Art and Design Wednesday 30 March A2 Students will use the day to complete pieces of controlled assessment or extend portfolio work. In advance of the day, subject teachers will have completed a formative assessment to determine how to secure or improve predicted grades. To boost predicted grades, all students are expected to complete between 1-5 tasks over the Easter Holiday. This examination is worth 40% of the total course. Students are expected to have learnt their scripts by this date. This course will cater for all students undertaking the Foundation Tier in the Language exam paper Non-Fiction. Through the course of the day we will explore the best approach to each of the four questions on the reading section of the exam paper. Students will be supported with assessment objectives and example answers. Alongside this, students will review the writing section of the exam paper and explore the different writing styles and purposes. They will again look at successful responses from previous students and will employ successful features in their own writing, whilst being supported with writing support materials. We will be revising the English Language higher paper both reading and writing sections. The day will consist of going through the questions of the paper and practising exam writing skills and techniques in order to answer the questions accurately and correctly. The session will cover revision for the English Literature Unit 1 Paper: Exploring Modern Texts. Geography Wednesday 30 March G3 Year 11 students will spend the morning preparing for their physical Geography examination. Students will revise case studies and processes of the three physical Geography topics; The Restless Earth, Water on the Land and The Coastal Zone. Students will complete a range of activities which will help them develop an understanding of the content of these three topics as well as developing their examination technique and building their confidence to enable them to apply their knowledge to examination questions. Students will then spend the afternoon in the same way, preparing for their Human Geography examination by revising case studies and processing of the three human Geography topics; Population Change, Tourism and the Development Gap.
