1 EDUCATION AND TRAINING (EAT) AWARD, Who is it for? The EAT Level 4 course is designed for practising trainers, new trainers and assessors who would like to achieve the latest industry standard high level training qualification. There is a requirement that all interested parties can meet the practice requirements, including the observed and assessed practice requirements, of the qualification. How do I apply to attend an EAT Level 4 course? Contact Petals Training by telephone or e mail. An EAT Level 4 trainer will then inform you of the course requirements, and if you believe the course is suitable for you, the EAT Level 4 trainer will then ask you to complete a comprehensive pre-course questionnaire. The trainer will then review the pre-course questionnaire and if required, a face to face meeting will be requested. The trainer may also make telephone contact to request further information. If the information provided meets the course requirements, you will be offered a place on the course.

2 What is the course content for EAT Level 4? The EAT Level 4 course has 3 sections which need to be successfully completed to gain the full qualification. The 3 sections are listed below take approximately 6 months to complete: Mandatory and Optional Written Assessment Observations Teaching Practice The course consists of 6 days training which will cover the Mandatory requirements of the course. The Optional assessment requirements, Observations and Teaching Practice will be discussed in detail on day 6 of the course. Course delegates will be required to complete the Mandatory and Optional written assignments after the completion of the 6 days training. The course trainer will agree an appropriate timescale with the course delegates for the written assignments to be completed. There will be a requirement for the course trainer to arrange 3 observations with course delegates after the 6 days training is completed. The trainer will also schedule a portfolio day with all course delegates to review the Teaching Practice requirements.

3 Mandatory Units Detail Group consists of 5 assignments which all need to be completed. Units (M/505/0122), (F/505/0125), (L/505/0127) must be linked to teaching observations undertaken, with examples of good practice and development areas mentioned when producing the written requirements. 4 Optional Units Detail Group consists of 38 assignments varying in credit level from 3 credits to 15 credits per assignment. Delegates will be guided to undertake optional unit assignment during day 6 of the training course, when the course delegates will choose their optional units. If a course delegate decides to make a change to the optional units, the delegate must notify the course trainer. 5 Observations Detail Observation Requirements There must be a minimum of three observations totalling a minimum of three hours. Observations should be appropriately spaced throughout the whole programme and take into account a trainee teacher s progress. The observation requirements of the course will be discussed during day 6 of the course by the course trainer. The delegates are made aware of the observation requirements during the Initial assessment, when Initial Assessment documentation is completed by the course delegate, and contact will be made with the delegate by the course trainer. There is a requirement for a minimum of three observations of practice. The three observations must be linked to the following mandatory units (see Section A Mandatory Units): Delivering education and training (Level 4) Assessing learners in education and training (Level 4) Using resources for education and training (Level 4). Delegates will be guided in how to approach linking their teaching observations to the 3 mandatory assignments. Examples of how this could be achieved will be discussed on day 6 of the course, by the course trainer.

6 Teaching Practice Detail Teaching Practice Requirements There is a requirement for a minimum of 30 hours practice for this qualification. The teaching hours are confirmed by the course delegate at the Initial Assessment stage by completing the Initial Assessment documentation. The course trainer will also make contact with each course delegate to discuss the teaching practice requirements and the need to produce a teaching practice portfolio. The teaching practice portfolio requirements will be discussed during day 6 of the training course, which all course delegates must attend. Delegates will also be provided with a teaching practice file, with the required portfolio contents. Teaching Practice Portfolio Requirements For the 30 hours teaching practice portfolio, each course delegate must produce the following documentation: Lesson Plan for each session mentioned in the portfolio Brief review of each session with a brief reflection on development areas Scheme of work for portfolio sessions Initial Assessment information for portfolio sessions Evaluation forms from a selected session All sessions declared in the portfolio need to be signed off by a Senior Manager declaring the session was actually delivered Witness statements for any work place mentoring, coaching or any guidance provided.
