2 Please see below for details of final assessments in and BTEC subjects. Unless stated otherwise, all exams will take place in the summer term of Year 11. Mathematics 3 exams: 1 hour 30 minutes long each Paper 1: Non Calculator exam Paper 2 & 3: Calculator exam English Language 3 components Component 1: 2 hour exam- Communicating information and ideas (50% of final grade) SECTION A: READING INFORMATION AND IDEAS Students are presented with two unseen non-fiction texts from a range of familiar genres, such as journalism or travel writing. This component will always include a 19th century non-fiction text paired with either a 20th or 21st century non-fiction text. These paired texts will have a thematic link. Students respond to comprehension questions on the unseen texts, including demonstrating an understanding of the texts by finding information and evidence. Students also respond to one comparative question, evaluating both texts. SECTION B: WRITING FOR AUDIENCE, IMPACT AND PURPOSE Students choose one of two non-fiction writing tasks which asks them to write for a specified audience and purpose e.g. to argue, to persuade. Students will be asked to write in a familiar form such as an article, a letter etc. Both writing tasks are loosely related to the reading theme in Section A. Component 2: 2 hour exam - Exploring effects and impact (50% of final grade) SECTION A: READING MEANING AND EFFECTS Students are presented with two unseen literary texts, including prose and literary non-fiction. These texts will be taken from the 20th and 21st centuries. The two texts are thematically linked. Students respond to comprehension questions on the unseen texts, including questions focusing on the writers techniques and one comparative question, evaluating both texts. SECTION B: WRITING IMAGINATIVELY AND CREATIVELY Students choose one of two creative writing tasks. There will be a choice of form or genre e.g. narrative, opening chapter, descriptive writing. Both writing tasks are loosely related to the reading theme in Section A. Component 3: Spoken Language This is an internally assessed component, externally moderated, and leading to a separate endorsement. This component is focused on the development of speaking and listening skills.

4 Physics 1: Topic 1 Key concepts of physics, Topic 2 Motion and force, Topic 3 Conservation of energy, Topic 4 Waves, Topic 5 Light and the electromagnetic spectrum, Topic 6 Radioactivity, Topic 7 Astronomy Physics 2: Topic 1 Key concepts of physics, Topic 8 Energy - Forces doing work, Topic 9 Forces and their effects, Topic 10 Electricity and circuits, Topic 11 Static electricity, Topic 12 Magnetism and the motor effect, Topic 13 Electromagnetic induction, Topic 14 Particle model, Topic 15 Forces and matter Geography 3 exams - 2 exams are 1 hour 30 minutes long and the 3 rd exam is 1 hour 15 minutes long. The first 2 exams will examine the human and physical components of the course separately and the 3rd exam is based on independent fieldwork skills the students will gain, wider geographical skills and an issue evaluation which will be a synoptic style exam (will require wider knowledge on a variety of geography related themes). History 3 Exams. Paper 1: 40% in total People's health - 20% 40 marks The Elizabethans - 20% 40 marks =80 marks History around us 20% 50 marks Paper 2: 40% in total Making of America - 20% 40 marks Life Under Nazi Rule - 20% 40 marks =80 marks Each unit is worth 20%. Art & Design Component 1 60% of grade Portfolio of work (A sustained project developed in response to a subject, theme, task or brief evidencing the journey from initial engagement with an idea to the realisation of intentions. A selection of further work resulting from activities such as trials and experiments, skills-based workshops and mini projects.) Component 2 40% of grade Externally set project (1 full project ending in a 10 hour controlled exam to produce the final piece.)
5 Music Level 1/2 BTEC Award in Music Edexcel Through completion of coursework which is marked in school and verified externally UNIT 2: Managing a Music Product. UNIT 4: Introducing Music Composition UNIT 5: Introducing Music Performance ASSESSED BY WRITTEN EXAM: UNIT1: The Music Industry (multiple choice and extended answer questions) Drama Devising drama (01/02) is internally assessed This component consists of a portfolio and a performance. Learners can take on the role of performer or designer (lighting, sound, set or costume) in this component. It is worth 30% of the qualification. Presenting and performing texts (03) is externally assessed. This component consists of a performance showcase for a visiting examiner. Learners can take on the role of performer or designer (lighting, sound, set or costume) in this component. This must be assessed during the visiting examiner window in Year 11. It is worth 30% of the qualification. Drama: Performance and response (04) is a formal written examination. Section A consists of short answer questions relating to the study of a text. Section B is an extended response analysing and evaluating a live drama performance. It is worth 40% of the qualification. Quality of extended response will be assessed in this component. Food 60% Controlled assessment One piece of work with a particular design feature and an estimated page count of 40 pages 40% Exam One paper and single tier based on the whole specification and includes the design process covered within the controlled assessment (30% of the exam paper is Section 1 which is based on pre-release material provided by the exam board. Students prepared for this within lessons based on the common features within previous exam papers).
6 Product Design 60% Controlled assessment One piece of work with a particular design feature and an estimated page count of 40 pages 40% Exam One paper and single tier based on the whole specification and includes the design process covered within the controlled assessment (30% of the exam paper is Section 1 which is based on pre-release material provided by the exam board. Students prepared for this within lessons based on the common features within previous exam papers). Textiles 60% Controlled assessment One piece of work with a particular design feature and an estimated page count of 40 pages 40% Exam One paper and single tier based on the whole specification and includes the design process covered within the controlled assessment (30% of the exam paper is Section 1 which is based on pre-release material provided by the exam board. Students prepared for this within lessons based on the common features within previous exam papers). Engineering EAL Consists of three mandatory units 1,2,3 and the optional unit 17 The course is assessed on the completion of all units as well passing the final synoptic assessment, which is based on an accumulation of all the skills and knowledge covered in the above units. Students complete a planning and practical unit which is done under strict controlled conditions and students are assessed on their level of accuracy in marking out and making. There is an online assessment test that students complete which is based on the knowledge from units 1,2,3 and students are expected to achieve a pass. Construction WJEC This course is made up of three mandatory units; Safety and security in construction and is assessed through an on line test weighted 20% which students are awarded a Pass Grade. Practical Construction Skills weighted 60% and is where all the practical elements of the course are based alongside written assignments. Planning construction projects and is weighted 20% of the course and is a piece of written controlled assessment The course is grades Level 1 Pass, Level 2 Pass, Merit or Distinction and students have to achieve consistent results in all units.
7 Media BTEC EDEXCEL The course is broken down into three units: Unit 3 Digital Moving Image Production Unit 7 - Digital Games Production Unit 1 Exam assessed and students expected to gain a Pass s 3 and 7 based on portfolio of work and are graded on L1 Pass, Level 2 Pass, Merit or Distinction. The weighting for the exam varies each year but the estimated weighting is suggested to be around 20% Catering WJEC 60% Controlled assessment Two portfolios with separate topics International Foods and Afternoon Tea. 40% Exam One paper and single tier based on the specification content. Health & Social Care 60% Controlled assessment two pieces of assignment work; Unit 2 Assignment 1, client profile, including services and how they are provided/used. Unit 2 Assignment 2; three professional job profiles investigated and linked to principles of acre and codes of practice. 40% Exam One paper and single tier based on Unit 1 Human development across all life stages. Award in Child Development & Care Level 2 CACHE Two units of controlled assessment comprising of 9 written assessment tasks, Unit 1: An introduction to working with children aged 0-5 years. Unit 2: Development and well-being 0-5 years One Multiple Choice Question paper, single tier based on the whole specification. (Unit 3: Child Care & Development) This unit will assess knowledge about the development of children aged 0-5 years. Students are expected to know about the different types of care settings and responsibilities when working with children. The exam paper must be passed to achieve the whole award
8 Exam Board: Computer Science 2 Exams and 1 Controlled Component 1: Written paper 1hr 30 minutes Computer systems. (40%) Component 2: Written paper 1hr 30 minutes Computational thinking, algorithms and programming. (40%) Component 3: Controlled assessment 20hrs Programming project. (20%) Exam Board: ICT Cambridge National 1 Exam and 3 Controlled s: Component 1: Written Paper 1hr Understanding computer systems. (25%) Component 2: Controlled assessment 30hrs Using ICT to create business solutions. (25%) Component 3: Controlled assessment 30hrs Creating an interactive product using multimedia components. (25%) Component 4: Controlled assessment 30hrs Creating dynamic products using sound and vision. (25%) French and Spanish Edexcel Exam 1: Listening exam. Foundation tier 35 minutes. Higher tier 45 minutes. Exam 2: Speaking exam. Foundation 7-9 minutes. Higher minutes. Exam 3: Reading and understanding. Foundation 45 minutes. Higher 60 minutes. Exam 4: Writing paper. Foundation 70 minutes. Higher 80 minutes. All exams are worth 25%.
9 Japanese Edexcel 4 exams. Listening, reading, writing and speaking. The listening, reading and writing exams are all one hour long, and the speaking exam is 10 minutes long. The speaking exam will be on the 4th May. All exams are worth 25%. Pearson BTEC Level 2 First Award in Sport BTEC Level 2 First Award in Sport Pearson One online exam and three assignment based units supported by video analysis and observation records. Units 1 and 2 will be studied in Year 10 and Units 4 and 5 will be studied in Year 11. Unit 1: External exam (online 50 marks 1 hour) Components of fitness Principles of training Determining exercise intensity Methods of training Fitness testing Unit 2: Practical Sports Performance (Internal assignment) Students will look at rules and regulations of the sports and review performance regarding skills and tactics required. This unit will give students an insight into job roles in sport linked to performance. Students will be assessed via a range of methods such as practical observations, video clips, witness statements and verbal assessments. Unit 4: Sports Performer in action (Internal assignment) Know about the short-term responses and long-term adaptations of the body systems to exercise. Know about the different energy systems used during sports performance Unit 5: Training for Personal Fitness Students will be designing a personal training programme to improve the fitness of a performer. This unit links with the content delivered within unit 1 and applies it practically. Students will be assessed by creating a training portfolio including reports, fitness assessments and training plans. Each unit is worth 25%.
