88 Apprenticeships are the perfect way to learn, earn and excel in vocational subjects. TQUK firmly believes in the power of learning. Qualifications open doors and we believe that every young person should be able to walk through any door however they choose to walk through it. Supporting real-life, workplace experience with knowledge and principles that sit behind the practical aspects of a role, the apprenticeship model combines all of the practical and theory aspects that you need to begin your chosen career. And best of all, you get paid!

89 Apprenticeships

90 Apprenticeship Guide An apprenticeship is made up of several key components. Here we hope to lay it all out for you and explain the big picture so you know exactly what you need in order to achieve an Apprenticeship with Training Qualifications UK. Knowledge Based Qualification (KBQ) Some apprenticeships include an individual KBQ (can also be known as a technical certificate or a technical knowledge qualification), whilst some other apprenticeship frameworks have an integrated qualification, which combines a KBQ and a competence based qualification (CBQ). Competence Based Qualification (CBQ) In an effort to ensure an apprentice is fully competent within their field or job role, an assessment is required both at the centre and within the workplace. However, it is also possible for an apprenticeship to have one combined qualification (CQ) which incorporates both the knowledge based qualification (KBQ) and competence based qualification (CBQ) requirements. Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) Know your rights. Undertaking the employment rights and responsibilities (ERR) course of training allows every apprentice to understand the rights of both the employer and the employee under the employment law and how employment rights can be affected by other legislation too. The knowledge or competence area of the framework can cover this subject but sometimes there is a specific qualification within the apprenticeship as well. For instance, within the Intermediate and Advanced Level Adult Social Care Apprenticeship frameworks. Functional Skills At the cornerstone of any apprenticeship is the inclusion of functional skills. The bare minimum needed to achieve an Intermediate Apprenticeship is the successful completion of English and Mathematics at Level 1 and Level 2 in the same subjects for an advanced apprenticeship. And in addition to that, an ICT Functional Skills qualification may also be required. 90

Skills Funding Agency: Funding Rates and Formula To find guidance and information regarding funding via the Skills Funding Agency (SFA). Please review the 2016/17* funding rates and formula here. *Please note: the funding rates and formulas change regularly and these should be reviewed yearly for the latest updates. 100

101 Skills Funding Agency Please note that this funding information is correct at the time of writing, and it is the responsibility of the provider to ensure eligibility of funding for their learners. ILM / CGLI does not accept any responsibility for errors made in determining eligibility or rates of funding. We strongly recommend that providers speak to the relevant funding agency to confirm eligibility and rates. These funding rules apply to England only. Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales have different funding rules and providers operating in these nations should consult with the appropriate authority to confirm funding rules. The SFA are responsible for funding for people aged 19 plus via three major funding streams: the Adult Education Budget, Advanced Learner Loans and Apprenticeships.
