The topic may relate to any aspect of geography contained within the specification The student s investigation will incorporate fieldwork data (collected individually or as part of a group) and own research and/or secondary data The fieldwork, which forms the focus and context Not taught this year Textiles Students work on a number of activities designed to develop drawing, fashion drawing, decoration including free motion embroidery, mixed media techniques, applique, and can lead to outcomes in fashion furnishing and textile Art. They study the work of other artist and designs to learn about techniques and processes. Graphics Students work on a number of activities designed to develop

3 drawing, mark making, photoshop manipulation, photography, paint effects and mixed media work. These are combined to produce work related to packaging, advertising, promotion and illustration. For both Textiles and graphics students are assessed on four criteria: Product design Unit 1 PROD1 Materials, Components and Application. They study the different material groups including woods, metal, polymers, Elastomers, composites, compliant materials, smart and modern materials. They look at the properties and their manufacture and process when used to make products. They look at the component used in making products as well as the adhesives used. They also look at sustainable and environmental issues, customer safety and ergonomics and anthropometrics. Modern Foreign languages Music Drama and Theatre They also complete Unit 2 which a design and make task of controlled assessment. 4 Students study either French or German and the topics include: a film la Haine / Goodbye Lenin, a novel Kiffe Kiffe demain / der Vorleser, festivals, charities, family life, the digital world, youth culture, art and architecture, Berlin, French artistic culture, French music, French cinema. Year 12 are completing the first of a two year BTEC course with Edexcel on Music Performance Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma. They will cover Unit 24: Music Project creating a concert, Unit 23: Refinining solo performance techniques; Unit 40: Ensembles. OCR s AS and A Level qualifications in Drama and Theatre have been designed to be practical, engaging and creative specifications for students to study. They will provide opportunities to examine drama and the work of others, to explore a range of drama as a practical art form, and to work independently to create their own drama performances making informed artistic choices. The qualifications allow students to study drama and theatre in an academic setting, interrogating this art form and applying their knowledge and understanding to the process of creating and developing drama and theatre and to their own performance work. Process to Performance This component introduces students to text performances. Students explore a whole performance text and study one practitioner both of the centre s choice. Students complete a research report and portfolio charting their research and development, and the process of taking their performance from page to stage. Students can complete this component in the

4 role of performer or designer. Exploring Performance Students will be assessed on their knowledge and understanding and their ability to analyse and evaluate In section A students will explore practical themes using extracts from two different texts from a set list given by the exam board. Students answer questions on one of the following three themes: Heroes and Villains, Family Dynamics, Conflict. In section B students will analyse and evaluate a live theatre production they have seen. Fine Art 8 Students work on a number of activities designed to develop drawing and painting, photography and digital media, sculpture and ceramics. Photography 8 Students work on tasks designed to develop their ability to take high quality photographs using a range of cameras, and to successfully edit photographs using both digital media, and traditional darkroom technique. As well as this students also develop their academic understanding of the works of other photographers and artists, from the past. The course covers both digital and 35mm photography, photo-shop and other editing software. BTEC Computer Science Alevel 8 Computing principles 70 marks 1 hour and 15 minutes written paper The characteristics of contemporary processors, input, output and storage devices Software and software development Programming Exchanging data Data types, data structures and algorithms Legal, moral, ethical and cultural issues Elements of computational thinking Problem solving and programming Algorithms Business 8 A Level (new specification) Students study the topics of what is business, decision making to improve operational performance, decision making to improve human resource performance, understanding

5 management, leadership and decision making, decision making to improve financial performance and decision making to improve marketing performance. BTEC Level 3 NQF (new specification) Students study unit 1 exploring business which includes topics such as features and structures of business, the role of innovation and enterprise, the external and internal environment, market structures and demand and supply. Students study unit 2 developing a marketing campaign which includes the role of marketing, marketing campaigns and market research. Students study unit 4 managing and event which involves them planning and running an event at school. Travel and Tourism Students study unit 5 international business which includes trading blocs, barriers to international business, business ethics and being an international business. 8 BTEC Level 3 QCF (old specification) Students study unit 1 the travel and tourism environment which involves students investigations the industry, the key developments and the types of businesses that exist within it. Students study unit 2 business in the travel and tourism sector which involves students developing a business plan for an idea and investigating different businesses within the industry. Students study unit 3 the UK as a destination which involves them completing map work, investigating the needs of visitors to the UK and key destinations in the UK.
