3 Trustee s Message Let s Celebrate Nature! Festivity has brought a light of joy to all the houses till now and people are in the mood to celebrate the festival with their family and friends. Navratri & Diwali are the festivals that spread happiness and prosperity. But, over the years, the sights of these rituals are lost and the seasons are passing by with no colourful rites to mark the transitions. Navratri is a festival which symbolizes the victory of positivity over negativity while Diwali promotes cleanliness, resembles beginning of a new calendar and celebration. But that celebration can never come at the cost of Mother Nature. Does anyone think how economy is affected due to unrelated expenses and the pollution caused by the fire crackers that are burst with so much fanfare? Instead of spending thousands of money on the crackers just to show off, light up your houses with diyas. The pollution caused by fire-crackers not only affects the environment but also creates respiratory problems, harmful for the asthmatic patients. One should also keep in mind that the sound from the crackers annoys birds and animals. This festival season, let s take a step ahead and go-green. Be creative to make the 'festival of lights' pollution-free and let ecofriendly rangolis and lighting be the theme this year. To bring about the positive change in our lifestyle, let us be the change makers and enrich the lives of our children with the essence of rituals. When one thinks of Diwali, it is natural to get a picture of fire-crackers burning at every home and street. 4 Editor s Message 5 Simple Ways to keep your mind sharp We re all part of a fantastic intellectual and information economy, which thrives on ideas, creativity and intelligence. Keeping your mind sharp is sure to give you the edge over the competition, and more importantly lead to your own higher levels of happiness.i d like to share a few practices I ve found are extremely beneficial in keeping my mind sharp and can help you as well: 1) Continue reading, absorbing knowledge and experiencing culture: Education is not preparation for life, education is life itself. It should be something pleasurable and done for intrinsic reasons above all else. Challenge your mind to continually broaden your horizon and soak up new information like an infinite sponge (that s pretty much what it is, you should use it to do just that). 2) Learn a skill or craft you ve never tried before like playing an instrument, composing music, painting, building a model airplane, or even coding computer programs: Engage your mind in learning a new skill. You re never too old to do this, but this is definitely something you should start as young as you can. 3) To improve memory don t write everything down: If you can, try this for a week: write down everything you need to do at the beginning of the week, as you normally would, but take your list and put it out of sight. Instead of keeping that list visible at your desk, internalize your projects and simply remember and know what needs to be done, prioritize it in your mind, and do it. 4) Give your mind time to assimilate knowledge: We live in a culture where we are constantly experiencing and learning new things and taking in new information. But in your process of absorbing new skills, knowledge and life experiences; internal analysis of yourself, what you have learned and where you are going is vital to put everything in proper perspective. 5) Eat well, sleep well and exercise often: Giving your mind the proper rest and energy is essential to getting the best performance out of it. If you re ever feeling stressed, out of inspiration, or depressed, a few days of nutritious food, good sleep and vigorous exercise will put you back to your full self soon enough. 8 Cover Story Let s Celebrate Eco-friendly Diwali!! Diwali is one of the most awaited festivals of the year and is a favourite of many old and young hearts. One loves everything about Diwali the sweets, the gifts, house full of diyas, the firecrackers. And best part about Diwali is, you can celebrate it for almost a week. And it s a real fun. But, Diwali brings with it a lot of concerns too. Environment Concerns, Safety Concerns, Concern for Animals and others. When Diwali is a festival of celebration, why such concerns should be given a place!! So, our message for everyone is to try and celebrate Diwali in the most fun way but with as much consideration for everything around you. The day of Diwali records more sound pollution than all the other days combined together in a year. Animals are afraid of the sound made by the crackers on this day. The bomb cracker sounds are deafening even for human beings. Children are unaware of the danger of vehicles catching fire or the crackers harming human beings and animals. Crackers release lot of harmful metals into the atmosphere and the smoke from the crackers is always choking. Well, we definitely do not want a day of celebration to bring so many evils upon us, right? So, let s say no to crackers. That would solve all the concerns from making Diwali environment friendly. 9 Teacher s Corner The Power of Self-belief Believing in yourself is the key to your dreams. Sound too simple? How can you become something you do not believe in? Then the question arises What do you believe in, if you do not believe in yourself? What are you doing with your life? Are you doing what others believe in? Have you ever stopped and thought about how fantastic you are? Have you ever thought that, just by being alive, you are complete? The universe is an intelligent being, and nothing is here without meaning. There are no mistakes. Nothing is out of place. The fact that you are born means the world. You came into the physical plane with the talents and skills within you to fulfil your deepest desires. What are your deepest desires? Forget about money, just ask yourself what is your dream? Sometimes we forget to ask ourselves that question, and we lose touch of ourselves. Why do you think you have the desires you do? Do you think its fate? To live your dreams is the reason you are here. To become who you are. To be alive and to be fully alive. To courageously embrace your being-ness, your instincts. To love, and to love yourself. To not be selfish; and you are being selfish if you are not being a bit selfish. The world needs YOU. You need YOU. When you do not give your dreams a chance the world s vibration sinks a bit more. By expressing who you are and being the person you know you are, you invest yourself your unique energy in world transformation. And as a result, you will feel gratitude s vibration. And you will know happiness. True north is inside us We have been taught to question ourselves, to think that our ideas and desires are useless if they don t conform to expectation. We have been conditioned to get caught in a trap, to become addicted to substances and TV, and mindless trivial activities. We have strayed from nature and our natural path. Do you think this is humanity s fate? Or do you think that it is for a reason? Part of a bigger picture? Realise how truly powerful being alive is. We are given a new gift each morning when we open our eyes. We have the potential to see new possibilities. To see infinity. And when it feels like things are going wrong, we can take a breath, refresh and start over. You are part of life itself. And life truly starts when you believe in you; when you become aware of your conditioning, accept it, and strive to overcome it. 11 Parents / Children Corner To experience a global learning GGS declared OPEN DAY for the parents on Saturday, 15 th October and Sunday, 16 th October. Along with the Open Day, GGS organized a Grandparents Day celebration and Fun Fiesta on Sunday, 16 th October. The campus was all set for Grandparents Day, Navratri and Carnival. It was enthralling to see Grandparents match their steps with the little Gajerians. Carnival treats, Fun Games and creativity was on Full swing, Pop the balloons, Spin the goal, Feed the Pumpkin, Bowling Alley, Dart Shooters, Toss A coin, Creative zone, Strike a pose at the Waooo, Selphie Congo Corner, Live Music and not to miss the mouth watering sumptuous delights.
