Course SLO Assessment Cycle: (Spring 2014), (Spring 2016) 06/14/2017 Essay/Written Assignment Students will be given a 10 page, term paper essay to write describing how the design of architecture creates better environments to live and work in. The student will give examples of actual places where this has occurred. The student will also give their opinion on why the design they chose had the effect on the people living and/or working in the space. Standard and Target for Success: The student who writes a complete, (and grammatically correct,) paper that picks a specific architectural space or design, and addresses how that particular design shaped the urban and social environment it surrounds, will receive a grade of 4. If the student addresses the requirements of the paper but does not write 10 full pages they will be given a score of 4. If the student does not site a specific existing architectural design or space to make their point, they will be given a Generated by TracDat a product of Nuventive Page 1 of 19
2 score of 3. If the student does not finish the paper or give specific architectural examples and has grammar or spelling errors, they will be given a grade of 2. If they do not turn in anything they will be given a grade of 1. Essay/Written Assignment - Students write a short paper on an example of an architectural landmark that has shaped the urban environment that it surrounds. Standard and Target for Success: 100% of the students will use a prominent architectural landmark and did they explain how that piece of architecture shaped the urban environment it surrounded? Semester and Year Assessment Conducted: (Spring 2016) Standard Met? : Standard Met 35 students did this assignment and 33 got 100% of the information that was asked. The two did not come to the lectures that was given on how architectural can shape the context of the area it surrounds. (04/14/2016) Faculty Assessment Leader: Mike Stallings Action: Have students who miss lectures come early before next class meeting to get info they missed. (04/14/2017) Action Category: Teaching Strategies SLO #2 Becoming an Architect - Given lecture information, worksheet examples, and in-class discussion, students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the education necessary, internship and licensing procedures to become a professional architect. 4 ECC: ARCH 119 :Computer Aided Architectural Drafting SLO #1 Commands for Producing Drawings - Given lecture information, worksheet examples, in-class discussion, and hands-on experience, students will be able to know the commands necessary to produce a set of construction drawings for a small house, using AutoCAD Architectural computer software. Course SLO Assessment Cycle: (Spring 2016) Performance - Using AutoCAD students must draw the floor plan for a specified, small, two-room building. Students must insert door, window, and bathroom fixture blocks, fully dimension the building on all four sides, and add appropriate text identifying drawing title and room names. Students must print the completed floor plan on letter-size paper complete with border and title block. Standard and Target for Success: It is expected that 85% of the students sitting for the performance examination will score 75% or above on this SLO. Semester and Year Assessment Conducted: (Spring 2016) Standard Met? : Standard Met 86% of the students scored 75% or above on the SLO. I had hoped for a better result. This performance exam was based on duplicating a given, completed drawing. A more complete assessment of their AutoCAD skills would be to have the students draw an assignment given to them as a freehand sketch rather than a completed drawing. Such a performance examination, however, would be more difficult and have to be given later in the semester. (05/01/2016) Faculty Assessment Leader: Dan Richardson Action: Demonstrate on-screen the steps to draw a small building floor plan and print the completed drawing. (05/01/2016) Action Category: Teaching Strategies SLO #2 Graphic Techniques - Successful students, completing the Architecture Program, following instructions, supervised classroom practice using CADD system, will use proper graphic techniques to complete instructions.
